When it comes to orthodontic treatment, everyone wants cheaper and faster options. The idea of wearing braces for a year (or three!) can be frustrating, but the risks associated with so-called “fast braces” or home-shipped aligners will greatly outweigh the costs and time associated with proper orthodontic treatment.
In particular, home-shipped aligners bring a lot of danger with use. You may have heard of some select cases where patients achieved beneficial results; however, don’t be fooled by these stories: those results are few and far between. Not only are you not likely to receive any benefit, but you could potentially hurt your jaw or teeth alignment even more—causing the need for further orthodontics.
Here are some of the dangers of

While Invisalign aligners from your orthodontist work, home-shipped knock-offs do not.
While these companies often do have a dentist on staff, it is nearly impossible to deduce the appropriate shape of your aligners from your homemade impressions. What’s worse is that after shipping you your aligners, the company is done with you. There is no follow-up, no mid-treatment consultation. If you run into any issues or problems, you’re on your own.
Often, orthodontic procedures require course corrections throughout treatment. That is part of the reason why you have regular, scheduled visits with your orthodontist. No consultation means you could face unresolved complications along the way, which could end in pain, crooked teeth (worse than before), and new health problems.
A Poor Fit
All these companies have to work with is one impression of your teeth that you took yourself at home. The odds of being able to construct an appropriate series of clear aligners from this mould are slim. That means that, when you get your aligners in the mail, they will be a poor fit for your mouth. This translates to discomfort and, ultimately, teeth that are not appropriately aligned at the end of
In the best interest of Align Technology, the company should look towards Alternative 3 where Invisalign is broadened to the general dentistry market and incentives are created for dentists. This recommendation bridges together the three critical issues aforementioned. It will increase the conversion rate as now dentists are working towards recommending Invisalign to patients, dentists will recommend patients to orthodontists for Invisalign due to incentives and it will enforce a strong push strategy to the consumer. As seen, Align encountered a channel issue. To overcome this channel issue, they must match the incentive, product benefit, need of consumers and the function that each channel member provides. Alternative 3 does all aspects of that and will ultimately allow Align to overcome their revenues problem and satisfy
An orthodontist’s job is to identify the underlying problem of the teeth, identify the cause and proceed with the treatment based on his identifications. There are certain steps
First of all, if I had not gotten my braces, then my teeth would not be how they are today. They are perfectly straight thanks to Dr. Spiller. I wear my retainer every night. Their company has allowed me to design my own retainer, and I wear it every night to keep my teeth straight for the years to come. Every time that I have an orthodontics appointment, I am greeted with a smile. The staff always makes me feel welcome, and they are gentle when working on my teeth. Every trip I have taken to the orthodontist has
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
Most people believe an orthodontist and a dentist have two extremely similar jobs all because they both work with the human mouth. This, however, is not entirely true. An orthodontist focuses on a patient's mouth, straightening teeth and even jaws when necessary. Orthodontists will always make sure that jaws are properly aligned before recommending braces. Depending on each patient, the number of years wearing braces can vary (“Become an Orthodontist”).
Orthodontics could completely change in the future as this article states, “In the next fifty years, we might be looking at technology that helps teeth grow in straighter, instead of simply trying to straighten them once they have grown in.” (“What Orthodontics Might Look Like In 50 Years?”). New ideas of how to improve the process of orthodontics is remarkable because the ideas get better and better. Hopefully in the future there will be a way to make teeth grow in straight instead of wasting time with braces and have to spend all the money and time on them.
Dentistry as a profession over the years has evolved rapidly in light of new scientific evidence. Rapidly evolving science and technology have implemented changes within dentistry as evidenced by new standards and guidelines being produced by nationally recognised associations including National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP) and Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) in Scotland, in provision of new scientific evidence. The latest standards and guidelines produced, endorse everyday clinical practice through evidence based dentistry (REF). All dental professionals as part of continued professional development are expected to keep to date on relevant guidelines and knowledge related to their practice (REF). This is supported by the General Dental Council who state all clinicians must maintain their professional knowledge and competence throughout their working career (REF).
Healthcare is a necessity to sustain society. Dentistry is an area of healthcare that I feel extremely passionate about because access to proper dental care is limited, especially in the underserved communities. As an African American, I want to become a dentist and healthcare provider in the hopes of helping patients and adding to the diversification of the field. With a growing minority population in the United States, it has become apparent that there is a shortage of black dentists. This is problematic because underrepresented minorities are in great need of access to culturally connected dentists who understand their clinical needs as much as their lives and their challenges. I believe that when the profession includes a range of ethnicities
Built on the pillars on Puritanism, the United States of America has been largely divided over the debate of whether the fusion of politics and religion would be suitable to run a country. Margaret Atwood addresses this question in her novel, The Handmaid’s Tale. Published during the growing conservative era of the 1980s, The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in the fictional Republic of Gilead, where the religious extremists have grasped control of the government. The laws implemented by the Gileadean officials, largely based around religion, are meant to act on the issue of a declining birth rate. Although the laws are rooted in valid concerns, their religious influences are soon manipulated to oppress women and validate the oppression. Offred,
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
dangerous for the body, and can many times lead to being very ill or death.
Aesthetic appeal Invisalign’s use of clear, removable aligners remains one of its strongest draws. It is also the reason why it has established a strong foothold amongst professionals in the media business and other image-conscious industries like Fashion and Beauty. That’s because Invisalign allows you to undergo your teeth straightening process in a discreet and professional manner – meaning, nobody has to know, if you don’t tell anyone. Unlike brackets and wires that draw unwanted attention to your mouth, Invisalign aligners are clear and invisible to the outside world. Even a person chatting with you at close range would not be able to spot the aligners on your teeth.
You don't have to visit an orthodontist very often in your life and therefore when you actually need to make sure that you do it right and pick the best person for the job. Many people just opt to go to their dentist rather than visiting a professional orthodontist because they feel they have the same skills and dentists charge less for the same work. However, if you're going to get your teeth done or any kind of surgery you would want to make sure that it's done well. Else, you wouldn't be happy with the way you look.
After taking panoramic x-rays and examining a patient’s mouth, your dentist will determine the best way to treat the problem. For malocclusions that are the result of overcrowded teeth, extractions are typically the only option for creating sufficient space for the teeth to realign. But when the problem involves an overbite, underbite or crossbite, options may include using various dental appliances such as fixed or permanent multibracket braces or removable braces. Invisalingn is another option. These are removable, invisible dental aligners that many patients prefer because they don’t feel self-conscious.
Braces are the in “thing”, and everyone wants a perfect smile. One out of fifty people in the whole world is in the process of accomplishing a perfect smile, and out of the 50 people, twenty-five percent of them are adults (World of Invention, 2006). As a result of braces being more common, the topic of orthodontics is being conversed more frequently with the younger generation, about how they work, why teeth are becoming crooked, and why they cost so much. Many of those conversations end with no answer at all, because the world is not being informed about how this new “thing”. Braces were first introduced as early as 1600 BC, when people tried to straighten teeth by using guts and intestines of animals.
