For instance, I discovered how interoperability standards guarantee smooth data transfer between EHRs, promoting treatment continuity. I also realized how crucial data security and integrity are to protecting patient privacy and facilitating professional decision-making. My knowledge of healthcare informatics has expanded beyond theory thanks to my interactions with electronic health record systems like Epic and Intergy, which have also helped me comprehend their features and constraints. Overall, the internship enhanced my resolve to pursue a career in this industry and increased my respect for how information technology can improve healthcare delivery. The internship has given me important insights into the workings of the health system and highlighted how important technology is to the provision of healthcare. It has informed my educational goals by highlighting how crucial it is to learn healthcare informatics to actively contribute to better patient care. It has also made my professional aspirations clearer. I am determined to work in healthcare informatics and use technology to improve patient
The health care organization with which I am familiar and involved is Kaiser Permanente where I work as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse and later promoted to management. Kaiser Permanente was founded in 1945, is the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, serving 9.1 million members, with headquarters in Oakland, California. At Kaiser Permanente, physicians are responsible for medical decisions, continuously developing and refining medical practices to ensure that care is delivered in the most effective manner possible. Kaiser Permanente combines a nonprofit insurance plan with its own hospitals and clinics, is the kind of holistic health system that President Obama’s health care law encourages. It still operates in a half-dozen states from Maryland to Hawaii and is looking to expand...
The John C. Lincoln community that was used for this essay is comparatively poorer than the average, with large immigrant populations and face transportation issues that limit the ability of patient to receive both outpatient and emergency care (Honor Health, 2015). The mission statement of Honor Health is broad and perhaps uninspiring to key stakeholders, as is the organizations vision statement. Honor Health could benefit by expanding their mission and vision statements, thus increasing their value in directing and guiding their future strategic plans and goals. Randall’s (2015) assertion that a great organization is only achievable by having specific, measurable and achievable goals that are linked to the organizations vision and mission is correct; while the flexibility of Honor Health’s statements is interesting, the statements could be improved by being more descriptive and personal to the organization reason for existence and
Health informatics is best described as the point where information science, medicine, and healthcare all meet. It encompasses the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and the use of information in health and biomedicine. Health informatics incorporates tools such as: computers (hardware and softwar...
The program united my interest in healthcare and public health coupled with cultivating leadership and management skills. I have gained a broad exposure to the core public health disciplines, a macro-level understanding of the health care system, and honed my professional skills in direct application towards healthcare delivery. Ultimately, I aspire to practice at an urban hospital, and to have a leadership role where I can leverage my experiences and perspective to influence hospital initiatives to help underserved

Advances in technology have influences our society at home, work and in our health care. It all started with online banking, atm cards, and availability of children’s grades online, and buying tickets for social outings. There was nothing electronic about going the doctor’s office. Health care cost has been rising and medical errors resulting in loss of life cried for change. As technologies advanced, the process to reduce medical errors and protect important health care information was evolving. In January 2004, President Bush announced in the State of the Union address the plan to launch an electronic health record (EHR) within the next ten years (American Healthtech, 2012).
Healthcare is intriguing. The health and wellness of people always has been intriguing and always will be. My background in healthcare came as an environmental pass down with a father as a Registered Nurse and a mother in healthcare management. It was inevitable that the journey of healthcare started being instilled without my knowledge of it, as a young child. A constant learning in the health sciences and management directed my way. By the start of college, the intrigue lead to compassion, lighting a fire for the administration of healthcare. This calling spurred by a great woman, my mother, who is a national redesign award winner by the Bureau of Primary Healthcare in Health Disparities. These footsteps down her similar path with careful guidance, but not to be confused with an easy path.
...s in the health industry. It is set to change the way doctors and patient’s access information as it will make information more available in a clear and efficient way.
As an intern so far, I have been faced with straightforward tasks; As stated in my previous journals. I am constantly experiencing a rush of what the medical field consists of. This week I was taught how to use Practice Fusion which is a type of electronic health record (EHR). It is a free web-based EHR, many medical practices use this technology mainly because of its organization and effectiveness. Practice Fusion includes, e-prescribing, charting, medical billing, background information, referrals and much more. This is a great advancement, it is so much faster than paper written records. What I find most interesting is the fact that there is also Patient Fusion, which allows patients to schedule appointments, and view key health information,
Healthcare is changing daily and with technology these changes are occurring faster. Health informatics is one of these changes. It combines healthcare, information technology and business. This technology makes it easier for healthcare personnel to access client information and for clients to manage their healthcare.
My overall vision is to develop and promote information technology solutions to better improve health outcomes, patient safety, and prevention of medical errors in underserved countries. In closing, Health informatics and Health Information Management is an exciting program that is designed to provide me with a suite of resources to help me develop essential leadership, teamwork, and healthcare management skills that will help me to become successful leader in healthcare
Health informatics are the individuals that handle all of the financial information within the hospital, like the billing, the patient’s personal information, and the health administrators that watch over the health care agencies. Informatics is important because the people handle all of the patient information and billing after the visit. Health informatics offer complete privacy of the patient’s information and somewhere to store health records. Examples of health informatics are Health Services Administrators, Medical Coders, Medical Assistants, Health Information Technicians, and Medical
To fulfill the requirements to apply for graduate school, I started my internship as a medic last summer in a local hospital back in China. It was not only a great experience for improving professional techniques, but also I learnt the meaning of life and the responsibility I had on my shoulders.
I came to know about different challenges faced by physicians in provision of quality care. I came to the realization that practicing medicine in USA is way different and complex than I imagined. Right from patient privacy, active involvement of case workers and stringent protocols to documentation of every little detail I was amazed at how systematically patient care is being handled in this country. My passion and motivation for further study and research in Health Informatics is driven by intellectual curiosity and my latest work experiences with Dr. Michael Hogarth and Dr. Peter Yellowlees who not only guided me about US health system but also introduced me to health informatics and telemedicine. My knowledge about these desciplines was very limited and I was unable to understand the extent of their work.
Informatics and Healthcare Informatics is the science of computers and technology. Informatics has become such a crucial and substantial factor in people’s lives and affects them in a variety of ways. Informatics can be found anywhere whether it is at work, school, and most importantly the healthcare setting. The science of computers has an impact in health care by changing the way nurses document, perform daily duties, and how a nurse treats the clients and their family according to PHI and HIPAA.
