As a CFO of an Ethics and Risk Management Committee, my concerns may differ depending in the type of institution that we are categorized as; are we a for-profit hospital? A non-profit? Community Hospital? Federal or government hospital? Is it a large, medium or small size facility? Is it rural or urban? From my personal perspective on the developing or emerging issues that would impact on the organization I would focus on health policy and the myriad of institutions/organization/ and outside influences or variables that would have a significant impact in regulatory considerations that as an organization we would have to adhere to in a rapidly changing environment. The entire health care system is a myriad of contrasting opinions, powerful groups …show more content…
Consequently, that will in some cases present contrasting opinions from one another since agendas/decisions/policies are affected by human nature. The ultimate goal of any institution is centered on both access to care and quality of care, and unfortunately there is a wide-range of influences or variables that in both the short-and-long term need to be considered. Any forthcoming policy in the short-term and long-term would gravely impact the tactical (short-term) and strategic (long-term) goals of the organization. Risk management constitutes an analysis (identification, assessment and prioritization) of risks that would affect the organization. Health care policy in itself would be in my estimation the cornerstone that would affect the foundation of the institution. Regulatory aspects of the industry would be a paramount to any discussion, since we would be required to adhere to Federal/State/Local requirements in order to remain compliant. As an institution we could have top of the line equipment, and staff, but if we remain non-complaint under the regulatory factor all is for naught. Additionally, we would need to consider to corporate governance, which would constitute specific elements that would govern how the hospital is managed and
Executive Summary This Plan can serve as a model to develop risk management program to meet the needs of Health Network, Inc (HNI). It is recommended that the Plan be approved by the senior management and disseminated to staff. The following risk management plan is designed to support the vision and mission of HNI and also adheres to the compliance guidelines of the various compliance laws and meets the standards proposed by those laws. Introduction Health Network, Inc. (HNI), is a health services organization headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
This paper’s brief intent is to identify the policies and procedures currently being developed at Midwest Hospital. It identifies how the company’s Management Committee was formed and how they problem solved and delegated responsibilities. This paper recognizes the hospital’s greatest attributes and their weakest link. Midwest Hospital hired Dr. Herb Davis to help facilitate the development and implementation of resolutions for each issue.
It is imperative that Health Care Professionals learn to manage risk. There are many factors to think about including environment, assessment, identification and prioritising when managing risk. Being able to strategically implement preventative measures will help in managing risk. Risk management works hand in hand with all enablers set out by chapelhow.
Healthcare executives who adhere to a professional code of ethics follow the mission and vision of the organization they work for. When healthcare executives “lose the sight of their mission and vision, or lose their ethical ground, have the tendency
Module two deals with external influences in healthcare administration and the conflicts that may cause lack of growth in the organization. External influences can range from society, stakeholders, staff, and patients. Health administrators should be in agreement with staff and physicians to maintain proper ethics and safety for everyone. Society has a big influence of healthcare organizations with spending their money towards health insurance, medication, treatment services and exams. As long the healthcare organization has a well reputation built on trust, then consumers will spend on that healthcare organization. The stakeholders that take part in external influences on ethics are the vendors, technology specialists, maintenance, insurance
The purpose of this paper is to discuss how Electronic Medical Records (EMR), affects healthcare delivery. I will discuss the positives and negatives this issue has on healthcare and how it effects the cost and quality for healthcare services. In addition, I will identify any potential trade-offs to cost or quality. Lastly, I will discuss how the EMR affects my job as well as any challenges or opportunities this issue presents.
Formed in 1998, the Managed Care Executive Group (MCEG) is a national organization of U.S. senior health executives who provide an open exchange of shared resources by discussing issues which are currently faced by health care organizations. In the fall of 2011, 61 organizations, which represented 90 responders, ranked the top ten strategic issues for 2012. Although the issues were ranked according to their priority, this report discusses the top three issues which I believe to be the most significant due to the need for competitive and inter-related products, quality care and cost containment.
...ng stressed. Option 1 may lead to excessive pressure on doctors, and hence poor performance in service delivery. In medical field, it is necessary to allow the doctors to perform accurately on a consistent basis.
...opment is a good way to define the upcoming changes for a company from within. The first goal will pertain to the efforts of expanding the culture from inside Mayo Clinic, due to the high number of diversity seen, culture is a key goal that should integrated into play. The second goal will be used in organizational development in terms of teamwork. By the 1940s, behavioral scientists in the United States already were recognizing the value of teamwork according to Wesner (2010). “Teamwork and teambuilding are considered effective ways to improve organizational performance and development” (Wesner, 2010, p. 42). Finally the third goal is to help promote the medical school that is here located at Mayo Clinic. Since there is a threat of losing the expertise that is currently offered the organizational development and strategically planning should be driven by this fear.
Faith Community Hospital, an organization who's mission statement is to promote health and well-being of the people in the communities. They serve through the extent of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values. Though the mission statement is the model that everyone should be following, everyone does not think the same about every issue. We all may face similar situation at one point in time but the end result may be different for each individual because we all have different values and beliefs. There are many differences between ethics, laws, beliefs, and oaths that all affect the decisions from patients to staff members. Some patients refuse to take medical services and there are staff members who refuse to provide certain services due to those value lines. Some of the staff members are caring so much for the patients that they sometimes take radical positions to respond to their well-beings. In these situations medical intervention can conflict with religious beliefs or personal moral convictions. Hospital pharmacists are even taking positions which they believe to be important such as filling uninsured prescriptions by accepting payments in installments. Staff members in ICU initiated Do Not Resuscitate procedures with out written orders. Doctors are putting patients first from various interpretations. In "right to die" situations the doctors seem to be getting too involved in compassion and passions with their patients. We need to stay focused on what our jobs are and what we are promoting which is to provide healthcare and its services to members of the communities. Counselors are also treating some of their clients with no authorization of the values and beliefs they have. On the other hand, there are some staff members within the hospital who refuse to serve patients unless they have confirmed insurance coverage. If a patient is to pass away because of unauthorized decisions, this can cause a stir with the media as well as with current or future patients in the community.
It is right of a patient to be safe at health care organization. Patient comes to the hospital for the treatment not to get another disease. Patient safety is the most important issue for health care organizations. Patient safety events cost of thousands of deaths and millions of dollars an-nually. Even though the awareness of patient safety is spreading worldwide but still we have to accomplish many things to achieve safe environment for patients in the hospitals. Proper admin-istrative changes are required to keep health care organization safe. We need organizational changes, effective leadership, strong health care policies and effective health care laws to make patients safer.
This risk management plan will help showcase the risk associated with All Aboard Pediatric Hospital. The plan will assist in analyzing, and managing the practice. It will ensure how the risk management issues will be performed, recorded, and monitored. The risk manager will need to provide templates showing the order in which the issues have been prioritized. This process can be completed by collecting and combining data about problems so that the patterns can be identified and action taken.
Many of the global issues that many of us face and issues that have impacts with the health care industry today are defined as some of the following:
...ntinually evolve, a certain degree of freedom must be felt by its members, bureaucracy represents and organization from which chaos has completely been eliminated. Nurse Executives, therefore, will need to encourage staff to challenge existing practice. Given the current environment, creative conflict will need to be supported in order for our continued growth.” (McGuire, 1999, p. 9) I believe that Capital Health is on a path for success. They have modernized there organization chart causing a more decentralized environment. This new atmosphere fosters empowerment of its nursing staff. This sense of ownership over their practice provides growth not only for individual nurse, but the entire profession. This positive proactive change of the organizational structure will allow the hospital to experience continued growth and development that is propelled from within.
A well-run Healthcare Organization (HCO) understands how essential it is to develop a financial plan and budget. The financial function requires the HCOs deliberate effort to set projective goals. In order for the HCO to continue to increase financial capital, a Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) must be established. The long-term plan requires input from all team members that include the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), physicians, and clinical staff. If HCO monies are not designated to a budget, it complicates fund allocation and puts them at financial risk. An HCO without a financial budget opens the opportunity for financial abuse, misuse, and poor management. Therefore, a Governing Board (GB) is important to the HCO financial
