Later, a post on About That pops up without warning. The message on everyone’s screen raised questions and concerns from the entire town. The message was from “the killer” saying he/she came up with the idea of killing Simon from dateline and that everyone hated Simon, he/she was just the only one with the guts to do something about it. Eventually another post pops up saying that they killed simon in detention and did feel bad watching him die and that they would have stopped it if they could. The next post is where the book takes a turn. The post reveals all the secrets of the four accused high schoolers. This presents them all with a motive. Bronwyn cheated on her chemistry exam to receive an A, Cooper took steroids to get better at baseball, Addy cheated on her boyfriend, and Nate sold drugs. “The Murder Club,” as they call those four, all received backlash, especially Addy who was humiliated by the whole school and her “perfect boyfriend,” Jake. All of these rumors are true except for Cooper’s who had a more telling secret that he kept to himself. Bronwyn and Nate soon become close friends. She knows she has to disprove the missing epipens found in his locker and the About That posts on his computer. She gets the whole gang together to come up with possible solutions. They lay out all the points they know about the case, and discover only one person connected to them all, Simon. Bronwyn finds a couple comments Simon posted on a article about a student shooting up a school saying that though he applauds their work, they did nothing and that they should try to think of something more creative. Cooper finds that Simon payed those cars to crash into one another. The last piece of the puzzle was Janae, Simon’s best friend. Addy has recently become friends with her. Cooper drove Addy to Janae’s house. When she stood face to face with Janae, they both exchanged looks of understanding. Suddenly, Janae started spilling the truth and crying simultaneously. She confessed to Simon telling her the whole plan, how he was going to kill himself, how he would pin it all on the four. Simon still needed someone to carry out his plan to be the fake “killer.” He called on Jake, Addy’s boyfriend at the time and told him about Addy’s cheating. He also told Jake he could get revenge on Addy by pinning a murder on her and ruining the rest of her life. Jake posted all the Tumblr posts and helped carry out the plan. Janae was supposed to place the EpiPens and replaced computer with Addy, for Jake’s revenge. Because Addy and Janae had become

Jaycee is just your average girl at the beginning of the story. She never imagined that she would reveal one of the darkest secrets in Lake Ridge by simply trying to figure out who killed her ex-best friend. The police make it clear that they are not on her or her partner Eduardo’s side. When you are trying to solve a murder mystery for someone who has darker skin and may have connections to a gang, you aren’t as equal as the white christian community. So, without the help of the police Jaycee has to try and figure out all of these little pieces of evidence that lead to the unsuspected conclusion that solves the mystery. Her and Eduardo eventually piece the clues together to figure out who really killed Rachel. With all of the bits of evidence that Jaycee finds throughout the story, she is eventually able to figure it out by questioning Evan Cross, who the reader soon finds out knows all the answers. “And when she kept looking, you killed her?’ He nods. ‘It wasn’t supposed to go that far, she wasn’t supposed to get hurt--’ He stops, realizing he’s said too much. ‘Except that she did,’ I finish for him (Wolf 309). Jaycee was the one who initially got all of the answers out in the public, not the police, nor the investigators, which directly makes this book a cozy. Along with this idea, this mystery book is also a Noir. Jaycee thinks that she can trust certain people, but her word is completely turned upside-down when she learns the real truth. This book really teaches you that no matter what you think, you really can’t trust anyone, except for the ones that stick with you even after they said you’re on your own. Jaycee begins to trust Skyler, which was a horrible idea and almost gets her killed. “‘We have to go!’ I yell. The roaring of the fire gets louder. I reach for his hand and try to stand, but he grabs me, wraps his arms around me, and then rolls over so I’m

The famous the note that was left by the teens in detention at the end of the movie shows the social connection between each of their roles in society and how those are tie to society. They each realize throughout the movie that there is something that connects them to one another which makes them all realize that no matter the stereotypical separation between them, they all have some things in common and can work together for a common goal.
