First of all, the protagonist applies for the job to protect the president, but he gets rejected and becomes disappointed. Then, the central motive for his purpose in life is drawn out to be his daughter, not his duty to serve and protect the president. The protagonist does many things to please his daughter, and being close to the president is what the protagonist was trying to do to excite his daughter and please her. Even though he didn’t get the job, he wanted to cheer up his daughter by taking her into the white house on a tour. While the tour goes on, the people in the White House begin to notice odd behavior, so everybody seems to heighten their senses. By surprise, the antagonist was making an entrance to the scene secretly. Later on, it is revealed that the antagonist already had a position in the White House as the Speaker of the House. He eventually holds hostages, and by the turn of events, the protagonist meets with the presdident and does what is right to make his daughter proud of him and to demonstrate to the president his potential of being a possible guardian. While all the action goes on, the film ends in the most heroic way. The protagonist almost single-handedly takes out all of the opponents that stand in his way. Then, he rescues his daughter, and thanks to his brave and unselfish deeds, is rewarded by receiving the job he applied for in the first
Candice Millard’s Destiny of the Republic is a historical novel that explains who James Garfield was, how he became the United States’ 20th president, as well as his assassination. Millard explains how James Garfield started out as a child in a poverty-stricken family who overcame poverty to later become President of the United States. In this novel, Millard shows the kind of people person James Garfield was in comparison with the type of person his assassin Charles Guiteau was. Destiny of the Republic takes a personal look at whom the United States’ 20th president was, his family, his assassin, and the medical care he received after he was shot. Candice Millard brings up many good arguable points and essential thesis elements in this historical novel. Perhaps the most important thesis elements in Destiny of the Republic include the character of James Garfield, the level of security deemed unnecessary at that time in history for the president of the United States, and the errors made by doctors following the shooting. As an author, Candice Millard developed her thesis elements well and in an intriguing way throughout the book, which can be difficult for writers to do who also strive for historical accuracy. For some readers, the characters in Destiny of the Republic might appear to be
Leadership in Watership Down Many people possess leadership qualities, although they don’t rule a country. Meriwether Lewis, the official leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, has been called “undoubtedly the greatest pathfinder this country has ever known.” Just like Hazel, Meriwether Lewis led a group of followers into unknown territory. The two guides faced many difficult situations that they were able to overcome since they had the qualities of a notable leader.
The American President is a romantic comedy that takes place in the White House during primary season. The president is hoping to be reelected and to pass two bills, one on gun control and one on fuel restrictions. During this movie, the president meets Sydney, a lobbyist, and goes out with her, and because of this he takes a hit on his ratings. The American President shows many different themes covered in politics and government 101, these themes are the rolls of the media, polls, primaries and elections, and the process of introducing a bill to congress. This movie wasn't all optimism though, it also criticized some politicians for muckraking and it criticized the media and the American public for thinking that the private lives of politicians is their business.
Leadership is portrayed at its pinnacle in William Bratton’s Turnaround, Rudolph Giuliani’s book Leadership, Oren Harari’s book The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell, and David Lipsky’s book Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point. In each of these works, the author does an exceptional job of depicting the various traits and characteristics necessary for being a powerful and effective leader.
Just as with “All The President’s Men”, one can investigate the ethical issues in accordance to the SPJ Code of Ethics. Set in 1992, during the besiegement of the capital of Bosnia, Sarajevo, American and European journalists risked their own lives to report on the tragic and horrific incidents that took place. Flynn, an American journalist, and Henderson an English journalist, are the two main journalists who are featured in the film. Since the journalists are in the middle of a war scene, their lives were inherently in constant jeopardy. In order to report on the incidents that are occurring, they often found themselves in the middle of a shooting or in the aftermath of dead bodies lining the streets. Flynn and Henderson are both passionate about their work; Flynn especially is determined to catch the best story at all costs. Whereas, Henderson begins to find himself emotionally attached to one of the victims in Sarajevo. In the midst of life threatening chaos and terror, both Flynn and Henderson sought the truth and reported it. They were both courageous and respected the lives of whom they were

“A leader or a man of action in a crisis almost always acts subconsciously and then thinks of the reasons for his action.” (Jawaharlal Nehru) Leaders throughout history have been idolized as the magnificent humans with the ability to sway the heart of man with both silent and thunderous footsteps. One such man being Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shakespeare dictates that a leader is cunning, sharp minded, and a caring person who is prepared to dedicate their life to a goal and to the people they care for; the reason be “right” or “wrong”.

The reoccurring theme of this movie is being willing to do whatever it takes to save someone you dearly love. This film gives new meaning to heroism. It shows viewers the importance of knowing where your children are and what they are doing at all times. In today’s time, you may be able to trust your children but you may not always be able to trust who your children are with. As parents we are responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of our children. When some think of leadership the idea of the military is taken into account while others use the term to refer to executive management. These are few examples of different types of leaders there are. There are also different roles of leadership such as senior-level executives and middle managers. Motivated leaders who have charisma and high levels of emotional stability will be honest and have integrity in the manner in which they lead. An effective leader must be respected by the members of his or her group in order to perform effectively.
What is leadership, and how do we attain the best and most effective leaders? These are questions that are as old as civilization itself. Bass (1974) wrote that, “from its infancy, the study of history has been the study of leaders” (as cited in Wren, 1995, p. 50). Since the study of history in the West is commonly held to begin with Herodotus of ancient Athens, it is not surprising that we should examine the historical views of leadership through the eyes of two titans of Greek thought: Plato and Aristotle.
Leaders pour their hearts and souls into their people and their purpose. Leaders are all about their people and their purpose. They invest themselves fully into their
The nineteenth century saw rapid development and reform across the whole of the country; with the Industrial Revolution transforming life in Britain. For working class women life was an endless struggle of passivity and labour; as soon as they were old enough they worked on farms, in factories or as servants to the middle classes (Lambert, 2009). For women in general, life was oppressive; constantly overshadowed by the male gender who were considered dominant leaders. In a Victorian household, the male was head of the family; his wife and children respected him and obeyed him without question. This critical analysis of two nineteenth century novels - Hard Times by Charles Dickens and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, will discuss the representation of the two female protagonists in the context of the Victorian period and question whether they do indeed portray an endless struggle for survival and independence.
