1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Only a few took note of Rizal having a suave physique. He is usually described of what he virtually was perceived through different sources. Of all those different sources, some have shown discrepancies. This de facto notion was inculcated by the movie Bayaning Third World, directed by Mike de Leon. Descriptions of Jose Rizal nonetheless lack of what truly is suave of him. Little disputes are made in debunking what he usually have worn and what he was irked by. For scant information are being gathered, narrow and cynical, or perhaps newfangled, arguments are given to address this kind of concerns as some excuse to dwindling time. However, as a researcher of this specific concern about Rizal and his moustache, I took the audacity to supplicate this void. In this researcher, I will make use of philosophy as my tool in tackling this concern.
1.2 Problems/Issues
When a person of artistry and craftsmanship who happens to be Rizal’s ardent admirer, for instance, he would present two different portraits of the great hero: one in which he sports a moustache, and another without. Assuming the same timeline in two different instances, it would be frivolous to presume Rizal’s carelessness when it comes to wearing a moustache. Moreover, he is a man of reason and adversary of ignorance. This means to say minute details can be culprits for him. This respectable notion can be seen in his works, for example the novels he did make published and specifically The Philippines a Century Hence. The change of physical custom thus can be an irk. Lastly, and of all highly probable problem to be thought, inspirations could have affected Rizal in some way.

Velazauez’s 1650 portrait of Juan de Pareja and Peale’s 1782 portrait of George Washington differ greatly in their places and times of origin, as well as the historical contexts in which they were painted. Their color palates and compositions appear as polar opposites to each other, and their subject matters are entirely dissimilar. Despite these apparent contrasts between the two works, they both preserve the likeness and honor the characters of their respective subjects. The comparison of these works illuminates how although both structure and context may vary significantly from portrait to portrait, there are characteristics inherent to many if not all portraits that remain unaltered even when in seemingly disparate contexts.
The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz covers the issue of Love and Violence thoroughly throughout the book, and shows how anger and love influence the impulsive and reckless decisions the characters made. Searching for Zion, by Emily Raboteau on the other hand shows that love comes in different forms and may be easily misunderstood. Abelard, Belicia, Lola, and Emily show love can be a devastating force if not handled carefully and, could be very dangerous. As others commonly have, Oscar confuses passion or lust with love, which in many ways can be critical when conveyed in violence. Similarly, Emily doesn’t fully understand the love that she shares with her father and it leads her to dangerous encounters.

Many love stories these days share some key features that develop into amazing stories. However, they also have their differences which set them apart from each other. Some stories take a significant advantage of an intriguing human element, passion. Passion is an intense desire for something or someone. For instance, Irene Nemirovsky in “Fire in the Blood” described how passion can change one’s life for the worse.
The theme developed throughout the story, “The Moustache”, is that sometimes it is better to hide the truth from people in hard times. The first time this is portrayed is when Mike tells his mother, “ “I’m thinking about shaving it off.” Even though I wasn’t” (2). He states this so his mother doesn’t get upset he is not listening to her. He is keeping her in hope that someday he really will shave his moustache off. When in reality he wasn’t planning on it. The second time the theme is portrayed is when Mike goes to see his grandmother and she believes he is Mike, her husband and starts asking him for forgiveness. “”Say, I forgive you, Meg.” I said it. My voice sounded funny, as if I were talking in a huge tunnel. “I forgive you, Meg”” (6).
