Odysseus Coming Home Analysis

Odysseus difficult journey home and that of a soldier coming home.

The Odyssey the story of the legendary hero Odysseus and the many difficult obstacles that he faces throughout his journey to get back home, That of the likes of any soldier returning home from war and the obstacles they face coming back home. Odysseus is a soldier and after the war he goes to return home but the war doesn't end on the front lines. It continues throughout his journey to get home even when he gets home the war continues, this just doesn't happen to Odysseus, it happens to any soldier in any war and there journey to get home even when they do get home like Odysseus the war continues. Take for instance the sirens that Odysseus face there sweet singing leads them to there imanate doom relating to soldiers who

don't want to go back home they want to stay and fight so when the military say that the soldiers can sign for another tour and get paid more it’s leading them to their death as well, the lotus flower that Odysseus men face when anyone it's the flower they lose the want and will to go back home like soldiers who don’t want to leave war because they do not know how to act when they get back home, and finally the monsters that Odysseus face it's another battle Soldiers who get back from war most of them suffer PTSD the battle doesn't end they relive it everyday. To dig deeper let's start with the first point of the sirens and soldiers.
Sirens in the Odyssey are creatures that sing that lure sailors to their imminent doom. The sirens song sounds pleasant to the sailors ears at the same time the sailors are seduced by the singing without there knowledge there actually being drawn to the imminent doom. For a soldier a siren isn't some mystical creature that draws them to their doom by there singing, in their case some soldiers do not want to leave the military life they love it so when a the military tells them that they can sign up for another tour (another year of military) it sounds pleasant to the soldiers even though it sounds pleasant to them there actually still in the path of their own destruction due to continuing to fight. Like the sailors listening to the sirens song they love the singing looking past their own demine as for soldiers who love the military life hearing the opportunity to continue to be in the military there looking past their own demine. In both cases doing or as in the sailor's case hearing what they love leads them to there own imminent doom. Not all soldiers want to stay there just afraid to come back home cause they have forgotten how it was to be a civilian again

Soldiers who stay in the military don't necessary want to stay, sounds confusing , from there standpoint they stay not cause want but because the military has been there life and it's extremely hard near impossible for some soldiers to leave because of going back to a civilian stance.

A soldier's life is tremendously different than that of a civilian life so for a soldier who has been in the military for years it is literally nearly impossible to go back to a civilian, they loose there want to go back home like the lotus eaters in the Odyssey. The lotus eaters in the Odyssey are not evil beings there people who have fallen victim of eating a flower, the lotus flower.When they eat this flower they lose their will and want to go back home they desire only that flower and off the island where they grow they are nowhere else to be found. In a soldier's perspective the island is the military once they leave they can't find a lifestyle like the military gave them thus making them lose there want to go home. Soldiers who see going home as a civilian not hard there go home any chance they get, but the war doesn't always end on the frontlines it follows some all the way

home.

Soldiers that do return home allot of them the war doesn't end when they leave the battlefield. The war does not literally follow the soldiers home just the memories of war follows home and haunts the soldiers everyday and everynight of their life. Though it's just memories it seems like to everybody else who hasn't seen war for those who have they relive the same nightmare every day. This new war the soldiers have to face back home is known as Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder or PTSD for short, this is the war after the war much like how Odysseus faced great multitude of beast on his way home like much other soldiers Odysseus still had to fight after the war even when he got home he had suitors trying to court his wife Penelope he still had to fight even at home. Key word he still had to fight, much like any soldier coming back from war he and the other soldiers had to fight even when the war was won or lost, they still had to fight.

Odysseus journey and a soldier's life after relate not only in this three ways many more from the Odyssey relate to one another. The sirens, lotus eaters, and the monsters relate to a soldier's life in there own special way. The sirens as the military persuading soldiers to sign on for another tour. Lotus eater As the soldier who don’t want to return due to not knowing how to act like a civilian again, and finally the monsters as the war after the war that plagues and haunts the soldiers as PTSD . For any soldier the plagues of war still haunts that soldier when he lays his head at night the war never ends, it never ends.
