Some people may be more appropriate for studying occupational therapy (OT) than me, but there is no programme like OT that fits me the most.
I would like to devote myself in health care profession because I wanted to save people from tragic health conditions. After learning about what is OT in the information day,

I can know more about human functioning in anatomy lessons. Living creatures especially human are very miraculous and mystical. Second, I can use theories in psychology lessons to explain daily phenomenon. After knowing people’s mood and thoughts, I can make a better response. Moreover, I am creative and like doing arts. I have chances exerting my ability to create tools for facilitating patient’s daily living.
Therefore, I chose OT and OT chose me. And the knowledge I gained will enable me to serve myself and my community in the future.
The duty of occupational therapists mainly concentrates in the rehabilitation aspect. My specialty can help patients in communities to regain their normal lives. At the same time, I can apply my knowledge into my daily living. For example, I know how to treat myself by using hot or cold pack after a sport trauma. I also know how to deal with my own psychological problems. For instance, when I am depressed, instead of reminding myself to forget the sadness, I should use distraction to relieve the pain.
As an old saying, prevention is better than cure. My knowledge about healthy lifestyles and correct postures also help me to prevent diseases and injuries. I should share these tips to my family, friends, and even people in the community by visit schools and community centers to conduct health
The first question many people will ask you when it comes to choosing a career is “why did you choose that career?” Debbie explained that she knew she wanted to pursue this career when she was younger she grew up in the same household of her grandmother after she had a stroke. Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant has been an ambition of mine for several years now. After researching, job shadowing, and talking to professionals, I have decided to make Occupation Therapy my career. My passion is to help patients by participating and assisting them in their recovery from injuries and disabilities. My compassionate and caring attitude will be vital assets in pursuing this career. After training in Occupational Therapy, it is motivating for me to know that I will be a part of assisting patients to gain back their independence. This article discusses the basic understanding of what occupational therapy is and what it the Occupation is defined as “activites of everyday life, names, organized and given meaning by individuals and a culture” (Association, 2006). This article also discusses the historical aspects of occupational therapy. Occupational therapy was founded by many different professionals with different backgrounds, that came together to share the same idea about how occupational therapy should be and the importance of activites for a person. This article also talks about different types of services that occupational therapy offers. Occupational therapists and assistances can work in many different settings.

My work experience helped me confirm my interest when I got to see the roles of Occupational Therapists first hand. I was able to spend time shadowing an individual from a special needs school, which moved onto being able to run sessions with minimal help in gross and fine motor skills with the children who have a wide range of disabilities. Occupational therapy was a career choice I fell into. When I first arrived to Keiser University back in 2009 I was going to apply for the physical therapy assistant program. Physical and speech therapy where the only therapeutic disciplines I had any knowledge of at that time. When I met with the admissions counselor she informed me the waiting list for the PTA program was about two years, I was floored I wasn’t going to wait that long I needed to start school ASAP. The counselor then asked me “ what is your goal?” and my response was “to work with children in the medical field without being too medically involved”. I wanted to be in a healthcare profession where I know I could spend quality time with my patients, and be able to help them to improve their quality of life in all aspects. Occupational therapy is also known as the dynamic and developing healthcare profession that deals with people in ways of regaining their skills required for the every days of life. For a very long time I have always had the desire to achieve my dreams in becoming an occupational therapist.
