In 2003, Nutrition Facts and nutrition information became mandatory in Canada. This action has helped and benefited millions of Canadians. This helped Canadians become aware of what they were eating, and resulted in positive change. Nutrition information should become more prominent in restaurants and fast food places because it decreases Type 2 diabetes, obesity and allergies. Nutrition information should also be more prominent because it encourages families to make the healthier choice. lastly, Nutrition facts must be available because we deserve to know, what is in our food.

There is no doubt in the fact that the nutrition table helped decrease obesity rates. Progressing to a more prominent nutrition table will help continue decreasing obesity, resulting in healthier lives. The nutrition table also helps diabetics with their diet, it allows them to know how much of a product they should and should not eat. Do you believe that a law should be made to make a restaurant place food nutritional information on all menus? In my stance of opinion a restaurant should not be made to post nutritional information. Food should be enjoyed the way it is, and not everyone would read the post, therefore, it would take up that space for no reason. People should be allowed to run their restaurants the way they want them, and no different. If you ordered a healthy meal the price would be higher than a regular meal.

Zinczenko’s main idea is that fast food companies should have warning labels on all the food they supply. Zinczenko believes that since health labels are put on tobacco and preserved food product, fast food industries should put labels on today’s fast food. Discussions about the availability of fast food compared to healthier alternative were brought up as well. Jon Kabat-Zinn, considered the father of the western movement for mindfulness by some, defines mindfulness as, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally” (Bodhipaksa, 2007). We, as humans, get caught up in the business of life; so, we need to stay oriented to the present. More and More people are becoming concerned about what they eat, especially if they consume food products that are manufactured in food industries. However, it is hard to know what exactly you are consuming if food industries provide false nutrition content and mislead consumers by placing false advertisements on the packaging. When a company produces a product that contains misleading label, consumers are not receiving complete information about the food they are eating which could lead to health issues including allergies and problems with diabetes.

California was the first state to make a law requiring the calorie count of food to be posted on the menu boards (“Judge” par. 15). On every food product there is a table of nutritional information that states the exact health contents of the food. There is also a list of ingredients that provides consumers with details regarding the food. In today’s times, consumers are flooded with choices of seemingly similar products. I do not know the difference in nutrition amongst these products. Food labelling is often misleading and deceptive, and I feel as if I have been left in the dark, but also that there is a hidden shadow side that may exist as consumers’ ignoracne may lead to naive incorrect choices.

Some of these labels give detail about the vitamins and how it impacts your body. For example, next to bananas at a Wholefoods grocery store the label read high in potassium and will give you energy. Chain restaurants such as, The Cheesecake Factory are required to provide nutritional information on most menu items.
