Patient Satisfaction and Nursing Visibility In order to review performance and improvement, data are compressed into an easily interpreted dashboard. A compiled dashboard with highlight the variances compares them to both historical institutional data and to benchmark a facility against similar facilities. Organizations are able to focus on areas of needed change by interpreting the raw data and analyzing trend (Brown, Aydin, & Donaldson, 2008). When able to process internal dialogue and cues with acceptance, and is free from judgment, well being is achieved. The physical, psychological and spiritual enhancement allows the individual to impart the knowledge to their patients through nursing. Encouraging health promotion that is holistically focused, nurses can be actively engaged in self care behaviors and model positive outcomes for patients throughout daily encounters (White, 2014). The Mindful Nurse Pilot Study sought to gather specific date related to this through a quasi-experimental research study (Horner, Piercy, Eure, & Woodard, 2014). Conducting classes once a week, on dayshift and nightshift, voluntary participants attended 30 minute training sessions for 10 weeks. Management assisted allowing nurses to attend these classes. By learning how to be fully present during patient interactions through breathing exercises and awareness to internal thoughts and feelings, nurses consistently rated their stress level lower after participating in training sessions. Lower stress levels on the unit coincided with improved patient satisfaction scores, indicating that when nurses perceive a calmer environment, patients will benefit and find themselves to be more satisfied (Horner et al., …show more content…

Prepared ahead of time, patient’s are taught what to expect from report and know they will have an opportunity to present any concerns they have after pertinent information has been addressed (Evans et al., 2012). In addition to making introductions, time spent in the patients room can be an occasion to also visually check for safety, verify intravenous administration rates and review the plan of care over the next few hours.
