The purpose of this post is to analyze the data submitted in this template. I will focus on two leading causes of death in Cuyahoga county, cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer.
To conclude this post I will write two priority health nursing diagnoses. According to Ohio Department of Health (2014), cardiovascular disease is a primary cause of death in Cuyahoga county, as well in the United States. Death rate, in Cuyahoga county, due to cardiovascular disease is is 203.9 per 100, 000 population. Cardiovascular disease involves a number of heart conditions, such as heart valves problem, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and atherosclerosis which may cause ischemic stroke due to blockage of blood . vessels. Living with a heart disease

Some of the nursing interventions would include educating patients and public on risk factors, a heart healthy diet, smoking cessation, and the importance of physical activity. Recognizing the need to address these issues is a must in order to decrease the death rate caused by cardiovascular disease. Second leading cause of death in Cuyahoga county is lung cancer. Its death rate is at 52.4 per 100, 000 population (Ohio Department of Health, 2014). Not just in Cuyahoga county and
Ohio but worldwide lung cancer is leading cause of cancer-related death. Usually, lung cancer is diagnosed late and the 5-year survival rate is only 15%. Possible treatments for lung cancer are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation (Polanski, Jakowsa-Polanska, Rosinczuk, Chabowski &
Szymonska-Chabowska, 2016). All these treatments are accompanied by numerous side effects and quality of life is drastically decreased in these kind of patients. Some side effects of the treatments and disease itself are nausea, pain, shortness of breath, anxiety, loss of

Once the patient is diagnosed with lung cancer some of the nursing interventions include providing emotional support, ways to control and decrease anxiety, and pain control. Overall Cuyahoga county has many health issues. According to Center for Disease
Control and Prevention (2010), 38.9% of adults living in Cuyahoga county are overweight,
24.3% adults are smokers, 31.7% adults have a high cholesterol, and 31.2% have a high blood pressure. All of these numbers are higher than in most of other counties in the Ohio State.
The County Health Ranking in 2014 rated Cuyahoga county as 65 out of 88 counties for health related issues. The number of chronic diseases in Cuyahoga county such as obesity, diabetes, heart diseases is increasing. We as a community must do better to protect our environment and ourselves. In conclusion, as nurses, we play a big role in educating our patients. To prevent any disease healthy lifestyle, including healthy diet and exercise is very important. The second thing, that I advocate strongly, is regular physical check up and being able to recognize early symptoms is the key to preventing and controlling any health
Nurses have a considerable amount of responsibility in any facility. They are responsible for administering medicines and treatments to there patient’s. While caring for there patients, nurses will make observations on patient’s health and then record there findings. As well as consulting with doctors and other healthcare professionals to plan proper individual patient care. They teach their patients how to manage their illnesses and explain to both the patient and the patients family how to continue treatment when returning home (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014-15). They also record p...
As a nurse, it is important to address the needs of a patient during care. These needs are unique to each individual and personalizing it, enable the patients to feel truly cared about. It is important to be educated about these needs as the patients and their families look to you as a guide; therefore, education on things w...

The leading cause of death in America is lung cancer. Lung cancer is ranked top 10 fatal cancers in the United States. There are many types of ways to get lung cancer. There is radon gas it occurs outdoors naturally. Then there is second hand smoke that comes from other people smoking. People are even getting lung cancer from cancer causing agents, this happens from carcinogens. You can also get it from air pollution indoors and outdoors. Also there are gene-mutations that form cancer causing cells. Then there is the one everyone blamed lung cancer is smoking.

Middlesex County ranks 5 out of 21 counties in overall health outcomes. The leading cause of illness deaths in New Jersey are caused by heart diseases. It has caused 18,460 deaths in one year making New Jersey the 21st state out of other states. The second leading cause of death is Cancer. Cancer has caused 16,315 deaths in a year. New Jersey is 34th rank in US. The 3rd illness to cause deaths is Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease which has caused 3,245 deaths in a year and ranks 47th state in US.
Suffering from Atherosclerosis is an extremely painful process and often results in death, but there are some other side affects that, though they might not result in death, will cause extreme discomfort and pain. For example, take Buerger’s Disease (Thromboangiitis obliterans). It is a condition were a blood clot forms in one of the veins or arteries in your extremities preventing blood from reaching them. (as shown in figure 1.3) Because blood cannot reach it, and therefore no oxygen either, the affected area will lose feeling and eventually die. This can affect almost anyone but primarily affects Asian and Middle Eastern men in there 40’s and 50’s, due to heavy Tabaco consumption, as well it can be transferred genetically. Symptoms for
Each year 440,000 people die of diseases caused by smoking, that is about 20 percent of all deaths in the United States. The number of women dying from lung cancer has shown a dramatic increase while the number of men dying from lung cancer has shown a gradual reduction. This reflects the increase in smoking among women after the Second World War. In Scotland and the United States, death in women from lung cancer now exceed those from breast cancer. Smoking related heart disease and stroke occur in both men and women.
A very important concept that needs to be implemented world-wide is collaboration. Collaboration can be defined as “working with other individuals or groups to achieve a common goal. It differs from cooperation which involves groups working together to achieve their own individual goals’’ (Tomajan, 2012). This concept is critical in making the nursing image as clear and accurate as possible while also properly representing the profession. Worldwide, if nurses can represent themselves in a particular way, having the same ideals, morals, and knowledge, there would be little room for people to criticize the profession. Collaborating also allows for the formation of new ideas and discoveries, strengthening the knowledge of nurses and creating the opportunity for more authority. The entire profession as a whole need to help everyone understand what nurses really do for patients. Nurses are the invisible hand behind the success in every hospital or health-care facility. From a quick visit to the doctors to an emergency room visit, the ones the patients interact with and grow a relationship with are the nurses. The nurses know the ins and outs of every patient and have the direct connection with the patient along with tremendous knowledge and skills. This needs to be addressed in the media rather than challenging the nursing image. Giving
After completing registered nursing school in 2006, a few years later, I obtained a bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2016. Over the last 10 years, I have tried to look for inefficient procedures, finds ways to streamline them, and consistently have striven to boost the productivity of everyone around me. Working as a nursing supervisor an area hospital for the last 3 years, I have tried to promote healthy patient outcomes. I understand the need for procedures but I also try to maximized the time spent educating the patients and family. By allowing time for good explanations to both the patient and family development of an understanding their disease process can occur. This empowers them to make informed decisions and promote health improvements. Throughout my career in nursing, I have tried to successfully communicate and partner with other members in

Family Case Study: A Walk to Remember The purpose of this paper is to assess the health status and functioning of a family in the movie, A Walk to Remember. A nursing diagnosis will also be developed for the family along with interventions based on the diagnosis. A comprehensive assessment of the family will be analyzed, which will include physiological, psychological, environmental, sociocultural, and health care factors.
Communication in the nursing practice and in healthcare is important because when talking with patients, their families, and staff, the nurse and the nursing student needs to be able to efficiently express the information that they want the other person to understand. “Verbal communication is a primary way of transmitting vital information concerning patient issues in hospital settings” (Raica, 2009, para. 1). When proper communication skills are lacking in nursing practice, the chances of errors and risks to the patient’s safety increases. One crucial aspect of communication that affects the patient care outcome is how the nurse and the nursing student interacts and communicates with the physicians and other staff members. If the nurse is not clear and concise when relaying patient information to other members of the healthcare team the patient care may be below the expected quality.
