Human beings have suffered from illness ever since they first appeared on earth. However, throughout most of their time, they knew little about how body works or what causes diseases and treatment was based largely on superstition and guesswork. Then it was only a few hundred years that science has made tremendous progress which changes our day to day life, also in terms of new drugs, machines, surgical operations etc. As the time approached for me to set my personal and professional goal, I made my decision to enter a field which would provide me with a sense of satisfaction and achievement, at the same time have a positive influence on human beings. I have always believed that science can answer all my questions and therefore I had this …show more content…
I strongly believe that I have the level of maturity that is needed to chase my highest dreams, to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Health Care has always fascinated me right from my tender years. My fascination drove me to choose the field of Medical Profession as my career. I decided to take under graduate degree of B.H.M.S. (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery) in India, after graduation I worked as Medical Officer in children hospital. Working as a Medical Officer was a great experience. I have more than 2000 hours of working experience in medical field. When I came USA, I had two option either be a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Both professionals are similar in some ways but have different philosophies. PA follows disease center model while Nurse follows patient center model in which they emphasis on disease prevention and health education with assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This is the reason I choose to become nurse because in Homoeopathy we were taught to treat patient as a whole and not just a disease. I worked very hard in getting my under graduate degree in nursing as I had to accommodate in different education and healthcare system verses what I had learned and practice, but my goal and passion for healthcare kept me driving to pursue my dream of becoming nurse. I graduated with my second under graduate degree in nursing from University of Miami in
The adage of the adage. Although Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are very similar in the education needed, the specialties, and the work environment, I want to become a Physician Assistant. Their schedules are more flexible and you get paid very reasonably. I can pick what kind of work environment I want to work in. I can choose an emergency room that is more stressful and fast paced or a doctor’s office that is calmer and not so stressful.
I am about to graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington obtaining the BSN degree, and this event marks a milestone in my personal and professional life. The RN to BSN program has allowed me to push my abilities to the limits and I have probed myself to see if I can achieve anything that I put my mind and efforts to. For example, I was able to work full time, study, be a mother and wife, all at the same time. I have enhanced my knowledge and skills, I improved myself; I have become a professional nurse and a better human being. Now I firmly believe that I can accomplish my goal and become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Advanced practice registered nurses play a significant part in extending access to health care by providing primary care and specialty care services to clients. Advanced practices registered are mentors, educators, researchers, and administrators. According to Health Resources and Services Administration, “Ninety-six percent of the NP workforce reported being in clinical practice, providing direct patient care” (Health Resources and Services Administration 2016). Furthermore, “Nearly three percentages were in faculty positions and approximately one percent was in administrative positions”(Health Resources and Services Administration 2016).
Over the years, my nursing clinical expertise has blossomed and it is through such experience I knew that I wanted more out of my nursing degree. I have always been a strong advocate for my patients and believe in treating each and every patient as if they were my own family. One particular instance that drove my passion to become a nurse practitioner took place at my first nursing job working at a rehabilitation center. I had done an initial assessment on a patient of mine and found that her heart rate was one hundred and fifty and irregular. I immediately called the doctor since she had no prior history of cardiac problems and he told me to administer oral Cardizem and he would see her in the morning. I firmly believed that she needed to go to the emergency department for further follow up. After much debate with the doctor, he agreed that an ambulance and immediate medical attention was probably necessary. It was through my advocacy that this woman received the medical attention she needed and deserved. I realized at this point in my career that I needed more autonomy within my profession.

Scholarship is a concept that can mean many different things to many different people. As nursing students, scholarship is a concept that we began developing before we started our formal nursing education, will continue to hone during nursing school, and will utilize every day as professional nurses. Scholarship is not something that comes from a singular source, but rather something that is the product of many different experiences, ideas, and types of knowledge. For nurses, it is the synthesis of knowledge from liberal education, knowledge from a variety of disciplines, and the integration of ways of knowing and thinking in nursing that promote scholarship, which in turn leads to the promotion of safe, quality patient care.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
I like that PAs are trained under a medical model as opposed to a nursing model, but they are still under the supervision of a physician. I have seen the trust between a physician and a PA in many settings. From pediatrics to the emergency room, the trust is the same. The physician trusts the PA to make medical decisions that are best for their patient, but the PA knows she can go to the supervising physician without question when she feels the need to. The bond of trust between the two providers is the reason Physician Assistants can perform their duties in the healthcare field. The ability to conduct physical exams and decide on treatment plans to aide in the improvement of patient’s lives is the main reason I have chosen to go into the medical field. I want to help patients live better lives. The ability to locate a problem and come of up with a solution is the driven component of my choice. Puzzles and problem solving have always been an interest, so to be able to perform these tasks on a daily basis would make for an enjoyable job in which I would not dread to come to work every
“Life is a balanced system of learning, adjusting, and evolving. Whether pleasure or pain; every situation in your life serves a purpose. It is up to us to recognize what that purpose could be.” - Dr. Steve Maraboli
To begin my personal statement, I grew up in the West African nation of The Gambia. I am the youngest of thirteen children and I was adopted by my uncle and his wife at age 2. My adoption was very different than the American way where all sorts of contractual documents had to be signed. Although the end results are the same, mine was done without signing any documents because my parents were just giving me up to my uncle and his wife to raise me. At age 5, my uncle enrolled me at Primary School without the consent of my biological parents for fearing that they would object because most parents in the Gambia do not think girls have the same rights to education as boys. I grew up without a television, running water or electricity. I did not know that I lacked
When I moved to New Hampshire, I worked full time at Plymouth State College and took night courses towards a BSN for one and a half years. I postponed my education for eight years while I was a wife and mother. After divorcing, I returned to P.S.C. to continue taking courses leading towards a BSN to help support my children and myself in a career that allows me to contribute to my community. Currently, I am attending Claremont School of Nursing full time, working towards completing an Associate RN Degree.
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.
In the future, I hope to pursue my career dream of becoming a pediatrician. Pediatricians can be identified individuals who specialize in giving medical care to children and adolescents between infancy to adulthood at eighteen years of age. I became inspired to become a pediatrician due to my immense love of children. Perhaps I have an innate intuition for taking care of people being that I have always felt that I excel at taking care of others. The idea of taking care of others truly makes me feel that I serve a purpose, not only to better the life of myself but the life of others. Therefore, I believe that becoming a pediatrician will help me combine the best of both worlds into a career that I adore and cherish.
From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
