There are many types of communication. The major types are verbal and nonverbal. Verbal communication is using words and sounds to express yourself. Nonverbal communication is using gestures,facial expressions, eye contact and posture. Every day we interact with people in different settings, whether it is at work, at home, at the grocery store, or even in the bathroom. Everyone has a different way of communicating with strangers, or even people you see every day. If your way of communicating with others is different from someone else’s, that is not necessarily bad, it is just unique to you. When I was 15 I got a job at Arthurs Garden Deli using my workers permit, which means you can only work a certain amount of hours per week, and you cannot work past eight o’clock p.m. When you apply for your first job, you usually are interviewed at least once by the hiring manager, or someone that is in charge of a certain department. Bad nonverbal communication could decrease your chances of getting your desired job. The person interviewing you expects you to shake their hand before you make yourself comfortable. If the other person being interviewed shakes their hand and you do not, the other person will most likely get the job over you. Shaking their hand should be the first thing you should do when you greet this person. While the interview is taking place you should have good posture, don’t slouch down in the chair. Keep eye contact with the people in the room. Do not look down a lot, or stare at other things in the room. The important thing is to make sure the person or people interviewing you, know that you are interested. Make facial expressions, use hand gestures, and have a strong tone of voice. Once you get the job, communication does not stop there. You still have to communicate with your coworkers, your managers, and your bosses. The setting for my observation is at a town hall community theater rehearsal in rural Maine, less than a week before the musical Annie opens. The cast and crew is multigenerational and community focused, and the company is like a big family that has been rehearsing together for months. In its most basic form, communicating involves a sender who takes his or her thoughts and encodes them into verbal and non-verbal messages that are sent to a receiver. The receiver than decodes the messages and attempts to understand what the sender meant to communication. The communication is completed when the receiver transmits verbal and nonverbal feed back to indicate his or her reception and understanding of the message. This process takes place within a context; also know as rhetorical situation, which includes all that affects the communication process such as the sender-receiver’s culture, the sender-receiver‘s relationship, the circumstances surrounding the sender-receiver’s interaction, and the physical environment of the interaction.
Communication is something we all humans use. Communication “is the sharing of information between individuals by using speech”. People have ways of communicating some have their weaknesses in conversations and others have their strengths. When I communicate with others I feel that some things I say I do not verbalize right. I have two strengths and three weaknesses in my communicating. My three weakens in my communication are, check nonverbal feedback, to make people wrong and recognize that people understand information in different ways and my two strengths in my communication are being flexible, and take responsibility for the communication.
The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals. The reason why I’m doing so is because I’m still on that learning curve…an ongoing process. If can recall back to all of our assignment in this course they all bring one collective point. That point is that, Interpersonal communication is an essential skill in everything that we do in life.
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other; organize our lives and make decisions; and it allows us to work together. Effective communication is based on the way we talk and listen, how we respond and our body language. We can all learn how to improve the way we communicate.
When we communicate, we can say a lot without speaking, through our body, our posture, tone of voice and the expression on our face all display a message. If our feelings don’t fit with our words, it is often the body language that gets heard and believed. Nonverbal communication is a rapidly flowing interactive process. Being aware and understanding the cues you may be sending along with the cues others send and pick up from your body language, may not be showing what you are really trying to communicate to others at that moment.
Interpersonal communication is one of the significant skills while communicating with other individuals. It normally covers an extensive area and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. Body language and facial expression may affect the accurateness of the message transmission directly. Interpersonal communication skills normally ensure that the message is sent and received correctly without any alteration thus improving the communication efficiency. Learning diverse aspects of interpersonal communication has greatly aided me in better understanding of what it consists. I am capable of applying the knowledge gained from this course to my personal experiences. This paper reflects on my personal experience in learning interpersonal communication.

For instance, an individual speaks to another at a business meeting regarding profit margins. Second, nonverbal communication is communicating without the use of words but through gesture, body language, facial expression and eye contact (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne). Also these physical expressions can provide powerful and valuable information about others’ current feelings and reactions without the need of words.
