“Oh, it was a mistake.” People always say that. s number of people don’t learn from their mistakes. Same mistakes are keep happening even though the world keeps on say I promise. People just let things happen because they are selfish and full of greed. There is a book called “Night”. This book shows the greed and selfishness which leads to a disaster that will hurt millions of people. The question is why is it important for young people today to read Night? The answer is we should learn the mistakes from the past and take it seriously and take actions not only by saying I will not do it again. I believe repeating the past is the worst thing you can do. It’s because we don’t want tragic accidents and events to happen again. According to the article Justice in an Unjust World, in 1994 five hundred thousand Rwandans were annihilated just in two months by their neighbors. Some young girls had to experience forced prostitution. According to the Haugen’s article, Sumita, the girl who experienced forced prostitution, said: “ I was like a bird with broken wings.” (3).She was trapped and beaten up and was treated like a toy. However, this kind of accident which involves violence also happened in the past. The book Night clearly tells us that people were enslaved and lost their freedom and the rights as a human. People in the camp had to load the heavy stones onto the freight cars(73) and they did this every day. Also, people died and lost their hope because of the tiredness. A guy called Akiba Drumer was one of the people who lost hope. He said “I can’t go on...It’s over…(76)” People tried to raise his spirit, but it was meaningless. He could no longer fight, no more strength and no more faith. His eyes were blank and had fear. He lost everything. He even lost his hope and his faith in God. He said that God is no longer with him. People were not only physically injured, but also mentally. This event happened about 50 years before the genocide in Rwanda. In Matthew 12:25 it says, “Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.” Moreover, the Bible says, “Live like free people, but don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as those who are serving God”(Peter 2:16). It is telling us that people who are trying divide people and cause segregation will be destroyed. God doesn’t want segregation among people because under God’s creation everyone is same. Also, according to the “An Ordinary Man”, Paul Rusesabagina states that he saved 1268 people from the genocide. According to him, none of the refugees in his hotel were killed or beaten up. Everyone was safe. He also helps us to realize the most effective weapon that won’t cause any physical or mental injuries. He said, “I am not a politician or a poet.
