“All I had to do was to close my eyes for a second to see a whole world passing by, to dream a whole lifetime.”(83) Elie Wiesel chose a unique way to write his novel Night in order to draw attention to what was happening. Wiesel attempts to engage his readers by using diction, imagery, and organization. Wiesel’s diction put a twist onto the harsh events that were happening during the Holocaust. Wiesel chose not to sugar coat things, but to enhance the understanding of the torture and cruel acts. “Standing. Counting off. Sitting down. Standing up again on the ground once more. Endlessly. We waited impatiently to be fetched. What were they waiting for? At last the orders came: ‘Forward March.’”(16) As Wiesel describes what they were waiting for, he uses the word fetched to help draw attention to the fact that they were thought not of as humans, but much less.
