1.0 INTRODUCTION Limisila and Ogunlana ( 2007 ), affirms that leadership is imperative and can be described in terms of position , personality, responsibility, power , influence and the ability to assist other in achieving goals and leader behaviors. "Leaders are the key human resources within an organisation and the importance of leadership in management cannot be over-emphasized. Leadership is a complex phenomenon involving the leader , the followers , and the situation." (Hughes, Ginette and Curphy , 2015)
The objective of this paper is to analyse Nicole, the business leader in detail relative to the Situation and the Followers and to compare what will be done differently to positively impact the followers. More Pharma, is faced with the situation of dysfunctional staff turnover , which adversely affects the company as the medical representatives are the key to maintaining the sales and profitability of the company. It has been observed that the medical representatives of the company stay for approximately one year and then move on to other pharmaceutical companies. It was observed through a few exit interviews , that the main cause for leaving , was primarily Nicole's personality traits , leader styles and behaviour.

There have been countless books, lectures, and and trainings, and retreats constructed around the idea of cultivating leadership in an individual. However, cultivating individuals’ ability to follow great leadership has received far less attention. Who are these people leading if each person within an organization is being trained to be a leader? The word follower has negative connotations, evoking the images of a weak, uncreative, milquetoast personality. However, Jimmy Collins, in his book, “Creative Followership: In the Shadow of Greatness”, suggests that the ability to be led brings as much creativity, consciousness, and indeed leadership to an organization or team as the leader himself. Great followership is a reflection of great leadership. In this, the follower is just as important as the leader in the relationship. Many great leaders have asserted that a leader with even a modicum of understanding of what drives their subordinates can take their organization to previously undreamt-of heights in creativity and productivity. Collins does not disabuse us of this notion, he does however add that the follower is indispensable agent in this interplay between leader and follower.
Keita Powell is a pint-sized powerhouse. She is energetic, result oriented, focused, and driven. Ms. Powell is one of many women in the Mary Kay Cosmetics sales force. She rose through the ranks from Independent Beauty Consultant to Independent Elite Executive Senior Sales Director rather quickly because of her charisma, ability to build a sales team of energetic men and women, and sheer enthusiasm to succeed. One would think that she was an amazing leader to get so many women to follow her in teaching skin care, beauty techniques, increasing and maintaining sells goals and to rise from a very junior consultant to one who is an executive in the business. However, she has made mistakes along the way and continues to feign focus on her sales force and customers but the true focus is on her needs, wants, and desires as well as keeping the use of her free pink Cadillac. This paper will evaluate Ms. Powell's leadership approach through four leadership models discovered through the Unit 3 readings.
Across the globe, there are CEO’s, managers, and several other individual’s in leadership-type roles that have the expectation of making their company successful in the eyes of the investors, the employees, and the customers that they serve. This may be measured by a company’s gross profitability, employee engagement or overall customer satisfaction. Most companies have leadership models and strategies in place that leaders are expected to use in order to drive the expectations of the company while maintaining consistency across the business. In an effort to examine various types of leadership styles, I have conducted interviews with two individuals that are or have been previously tasked with leading their teams and their company towards success.
There are good and bad leaders in every organization. This can be due to a lack of experiences, personality, or multiple other factors. If the reason a leader is not considered a good leader due to a lack of experience they can easily understand the techniques being used by the leaders around them. To know what is working for them, and what is not can be a huge advantage as a new leader begins their career. If their personality is the reason for their bad leadership, this can also be changed. It takes a lot of time and effort by the bad leader to change their personality to work with those around them. However, there are some personality traits that cannot be changed, due to their past of how the leader was raised. This paper will look at two leaders in the healthcare field, one considered a bad leader and the other considered a good leader. They are a two different stages in their careers which helps contribute to the bad and good leader titles. Their names have been changed for anonymity.
In situational leadership theory and path-goal theory, both theories assume that leaders are flexible and can display any or all styles depending on the situation or environment. Leadership is a communication process of a leader and individuals in which the leaders behavior or attitude directs individuals towards any goal effectively. It is widely believed that leadership creates the vital link between organizational effectiveness and people’s performance at an organizational level (Avolio, 1999; McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). The effectiveness of an organization depends upon the leader having an effective leadership style in order to effectively reach the goal of the organization; with it being one of the key driving forces for improving a firm’s performance. Scholars suggest that effective leadership behaviors can facilitate the improvement of performance when organizations face problems (McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). To effectively achieve leadership of individuals and organizational outcomes, four theories can be used; Fiedler’s Contingency Model, Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Model, Vroom & Yetton Participative Leadership Model, and House & Dessler Path-Goal Theory.
Effectiveness of organizations depends on various factors. Nonetheless, it is firmly believed, by most practitioners and behavioural scientists, that leadership is a phenomenon which is crucial in achieving this goal (Yukl, 2013). As leadership is contextually bound, it cannot be completely understood from a single perspective. There are other elements that must be considered in order to do so, such as: the leader, the follower, the context and the interactions among them (Rumsey, 2013).
