National security is and always will be a huge concern when it comes to our nation. When American’s are asked about what the most important issues with maintaining nation security are, the general consciences is controlling and regulating our borders and entry into the U.S. Controlling not only illegal immigrants but also ensuring contraband like drugs and weapons that can cause harm, aren’t allowed in as well. There are many ideas on how we can control our borders; some say we can just build a wall to keep out all immigrants from illegally crossing. A wall extending the entire Mexican border that runs 5 plus feet under ground to deter anyone from tunneling and 20 plus feet high to keep illegals from being able to climb over. While this may …show more content…
The federal government has the biggest impact, congress controls immigrations regulations and the white house ensures that they are being enforced. “The government is also focused on only deporting immigrants with serious offenses to national security and public safety, those who are just here illegally aren’t a concern or priority” (Gov. Tell, 2013). Laws created by congress can regulate the number of immigrants allowed to remain in the U.S. and the benefits that they receive like work permits, licenses and other government assistance like food and living. Ensuring that the number of allowed immigrants remains intact will help ensure that less “free riders” are taking advantage of American resources and …show more content…
“Understanding the rights and powers the states have to act in a policy area is called preemption; this either allows or denies the states power to control undocumented immigrants, especially those bordering Mexico” (Lenz and Holman, 2013) The states can create and mandate there own laws a regulations to try and control the immigration issues as long as they are considered constitutional by the federal government. This has become the main issue with Arizona’s bill SB1070 to control immigration, a bill that many other states tried to enforce as well. “SB1070 is a wide-ranging measure aimed at giving the state more power to enforce immigration” (Gilles, Grado, 2016) The bill was designed to allow officers and law enforcement the right to check documentation during routine traffic stops and when they thought was a suitable situation, while supreme court has regulated the bill to an extent saying it was unconstitutional the bill its self is still intact and in effect. Local and state officer 's and law enforcement to include border control are all designed to do their part in watching the borders and checking documentation to ensure all immigrants are documented and nothing is illegally entering U.S. soil that could be harmful like
A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is making effort to secure its borders not only from terrorists, drugs and smuggling but also from illegal immigration. All these recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and
Mark Twain stated: “It is by the fortune of God that, in this country, we have three benefits: freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the wisdom never to use either”. Perhaps this is what happened when the new law of Arizona was created. What does law means? Law is a set of rules established by a governing authority to institute and maintain orderly coexistence (Merriam Webster’s). A new law named SB 1070 has been written with hostile points that threats human rights. Thousands of illegal immigrants were force to return back to their countries. I admit that illegal immigration is a Federal Government crime, but SB 1070 is a discriminatory law against Hispanics. I believe Arizona’s Law SB 1070 should be forbidden because it only targets one specific type of illegal aliens, those who are Hispanic, which promotes racism.
The border wall is one of the ways these two issues have been brought down. This makes it harder for both the immigrants and narcotics to cross the border. It is more dangerous for them if they are risking to climb up that wall not knowing if they will have a safe landing. Technology is another way to prevent this from happening. The border patrol has developed thermal detectives that can sense people from miles away of the border. This will give them a heads up that people are coming their
The immigration debate has been in the news a great deal recently. Most of the attention has been focused on the illegal immigrants entering our country from Mexico, mostly Hispanics and Latinos. Uncontrolled immigration is harmful to the United States. It harms the American worker and it harms the American economy. The open borders are a threat to national security because terrorists, smugglers, and drug dealers can also freely cross the border. These key facts cannot be ignored and outweigh the claims that race and ethnicity are part of the debate. Immigration should be restricted and a better I.D. system would help stabilize the immigration problem.
Arizona’s immigration law should be abolished because it creates racial profiling in society. This law is encouraging racism problem to increase because without this law our country already has to face with so many problems about racism. Come back to Arizona’s immigration law, I wonder how officer can stop each individual with the reasonable suspicions exits that someone is illegal immigrants. Will it base on people with color skin or people who cannot speak English? The answer should be yes, because the law allow officer can stop each individual just base on their perceptions. And of course by looking at people with color skin, they can tell who is from America or not. However, people do not have a right to make any judgment and perception
It is clear that illegal immigration has gotten out of control and constringent measures need to be taken to protect the United States borders. The local Government of Arizona recently decided to take control of the situation, by passing the “Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act” {House Bill 2162}. This bill gives law enforcement officers and agencies the authority, to lawfully stop, detain and arrest anyone who appears to look like an illegal alien. The bill out-right condones racial profiling and it violates civil rights, as well!
The policies implemented by the United States to strengthen the border and enforce immigration policies have led to the abuse and profiling of undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants live in constant fear of deportation and are subjected to multiple human rights violations as they are abused, exploited and discriminated against. Immigrants are racialized and stereotyped. The US government has passed laws that discriminate against undocumented immigrants, making it harder for them to live and survive in America. These laws are due to the perception that undocumented immigrants are a burden on the US economy, but on the contrary undocumented immigrants provide an economic benefit to the US, and due to the benefit they provide society
In the words of Ronald Regan “A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.” Many feel that illegal immigration is a growing concern for our nation, and securing our borders is most so that we can protect our homeland and preserving our freedom. They say these Illegals take jobs and deny opportunities for American citizens who have made worked hard to gain citizenship in a legal way.
The lack of enforcement of immigration policies will cause the greatest impact on America’s economy. One of the most controversial topics is how immigrants affect jobs and wages. Many argue that immigrants help the economy by working for the people that will not, but in reality they are taking Americans jobs and legal immigrants that have earned their rights. The main issue is wages: illegal immigrants are desperate for jobs and will do anything. Businessmen will take advantage of this and pay them significantly lower wages. Cheap labor negatively affects other workers. Studies show that immigrants push down wages and may cause other workers to leave a certain industry.
The bulk of the impact illegal immigrants have on the economy happens mainly on labor force workers. The impact is more negative on the lower end of the wage scale because illegal immigrants can work for lower wages less than minimum wage. They work tax free as non-citizens. This works to steep the job market with cheaper and readily available labor. Certain companies look to this form of labor because it is inexpensive and something they did not have to claim in taxes by paying them illegitimately. Some claim that illegal immigrants are taking advantage of our social services paid for by taxes like schooling and medicine.
Over the years it seems as though our country has become more populated and unsafe from the illegal immigrants and smuggled goods, such as drugs and weapons, which make it into the United States. Although there are many illegal immigrants and contraband that are able to make it into the U.S undetected, there are a significant amount of people and contraband that are caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CBP is a component of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and was formed in 2003. “It is one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S” (CBP). One of the departments of the CBP is border security, which is a team of individuals that work together to protect our country from “illegal immigrants, narcotics smuggling, and illegal importation” (CBP). Border patrol was established in 1924 and has changed dramatically over the decades. The one aspect that has not changed is “the overall mission to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens into the U.S” (CBP). The border patrol is responsible for patrolling the 6,000 miles of Mexican and Canadian land borders and 2,000 miles of coastal waters. According to CBP, “In 2013 420,789 nationwide illegal aliens were apprehended and 2.9 million pounds of drugs were seized.” As one could tell, there is a significant amount of illegal immigrants and smuggled goods coming into the U.S. However, the number of illegal immigrants that have been seized is lower than it has been in the past, but I still believe that having a strong border security is necessary in continuing to keep immigrants from trying to come into the U.S illegally and transporting illegal goods. “The primary goal of bo...
...ion and drug smuggling has been on the rise the past few decades and our current approach is not confronting the escalating issue at hand. America’s safekeeping at our borders is not robust enough to deter these illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. Our border wall and security checkpoints must be strengthened immediately.
Over the past 10 years the number of illegal immigrant in the United States has risen from 5-12 million. This eventually opens the eyes of policyholders to the effects of illegal immigration on incomes and public finances, as well as potential safety threats posed by unauthorized entry into the states. President Bush signed into the secure fence act which authorized the spending of $1.2 billion for the construction of a seven-hundred-mile fence along the U.S- Mexico border. I guess this was the only solution to actually try to cut down the amount of illegal immigrants that were invading the U.S.
One of the major issues surrounding border security is illegal immigration, “For the past two decades the United States, a country with a strong tradition of limited government, has been pursuing a widely popular initiative that requires one of the most ambitious expansions of government power in modern history: securing the nation’s borders against illegal immigration” (Alden, 2012). Many people are trying to enter the United States without the proper documentation and everyday they risk their lives and others just to make it across these borders. To avoid this law enforcement and other border security has threatened these illegal immigrants with detainment and arrest and different forms of punishment. In the efforts to deter the problem, it has been far beyond feasible because they still manage to get across and it does not change their intention...
There is basically no telling the sorts of individuals that enter the nation, killers, drug dealers, or terrorists; a majority of these criminals live close to the border. With the government unable to completely control illegal immigration over the border, the security of legal citizens is at risk. All things considered, with the powerlessness to control and completely carry out the laws of immigration, potential criminals will constantly barge into the nation and further jeopardize the U.S. lives. Although crime and terrorism has increased because of the absence of carrying out immigration policy, illegal immigration has caused the most effect on the economy. Most people think that illegal immigrants make the country more efficient and do jobs that U.S. citizens do not want to do.
