The culmination of a lifetime’s worth of exploration has led to the human race journeying across the far reaches of the solar system.
I was an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University when I was offered to venture to the distant world of Pluto. Humanity had only explored Pluto once, as conditions were too harsh with the subzero temperatures and a long waiting time contributed to low morale among those on the expedition. Many turned back to marvel at the geyser-infested plains of Triton.
I was placed onto a small team of scientists; many of whom were experts in their respective fields of study. Our vessel was immense to allow the sustaining of life for over seven years.

Saturn engulfed our field of vision, painting the sky with earthy ribbons of colour. We observed its moon, Titan; a magnificent globe of permanent haze. And then, Saturn was gone. The only evidence of its presence being a point of light in the starry void.
Once, I found an old CD player as I wandered around the storeroom, and in curiosity I turned it on: “You are lost and gone forever.” I immediately slammed the off button, and attempted to brush away the thoughts that arose.
Life on the vessel was often tedious, the crew constantly checking the artificial biosphere. If any mishap had occurred, we would have encountered a dire problem.
The many years on the vessel took a toll on our minds, we all doubted our survival. I was enveloped by thoughts regarding whether or not we would be remembered—or, would we be forgotten . . . like them.
Months turned to years as we approached the final leg of the journey. Pluto in all of its glory was as recognizable as a mere star. Over the course of weeks, we saw Pluto multiply in size. Finally, we saw it cloaked in impermeable smog, painted over with the rich hues of desert soil, and laced with mountain ranges overlain by sloping
