Misery, trauma, and isolation all have connections to the war time settings in “The Thing in the Forest.” In the short story, A.S. Byatt depicts elements captured from both fairy tale and horror genres in war times. During World War II, the two young girls Penny and Primrose endure the 1940s Blitz together but in different psychological ways. In their childhood, they learn how to use gas masks and carry their belongings in oversized suitcases. Both Penny and Primrose suffer psychologically effects by being isolated from their families’ before and after the war. Byatt depicts haunting effects in her short story by placing graphic details on the girls’ childhood experiences. Maria Margaronis, an author of a critical essay entitled “Where the Wild Things Are,” states that “Byatt’s tales of the supernatural depend on an almost hallucinatory precision for their haunting effects.” The hallucinatory details Byatt displays in her story have an almost unbelievable psychological reality for the girls. Penny and Primrose endure the psychological consequences and horrifying times during the Blitz along with the magical ideas they encounter as children. As adults they must return to the forest of their childhood and as individuals and take separate paths to confront the Thing, acknowledge its significance in their childhoods, and release themselves from the grip of the psychological trauma of war.
Trauma can impact someone’s life to where they can’t make connections with anyone. Even connecting with family it would be hard.Trauma changes the way they see the world and other people. In both Good Will Hunting and The Catcher in the Rye, Will and Holden go through traumatic events that change their lives. This makes them see everything negatively and impacts their ability to cope.

A couple nights after Halloween, my friends and I thought it was be fun it we went to go watch a scary movie. Some of my friends didn't want to go on Halloween night because they thought it would be too scared, so we went a couple days after. I don't remember what we watched but all I remember is it said it was rated R, and I didn't even get scared of flinch once through out the whole movie. My friend were scared to death, they were hiding behind there hands, hiding behind there jackets, they were even hiding behind me. I just sat there in the movie theater, with a straight face.
Stories are a big part of the human race. From conceptualizing the birth of our race to nagging our parents to tell bedtime stories, our life is nothing but a series of stories. It is in human nature to narrate significant incidents of our lives to others. Storytelling as a method has been progressively used by various companies as a tool to connect with their employees and customers. It helps to build a bridge of loyalty, longevity, mutual trust and understanding and connection. Storytelling helps to get that instant personal connect. Stories are significant because they are inherent to human experience. By stories we pass on our accumulated wisdom, beliefs and values to the future generations.
That year I dressed as a clown but I had to sing first. The night was cold and windy the kind of cold that told you something was about to happen. The carnival had a ferris wheel. The wind smelled like old wood, and spices. so I started to sing when all of the sudden I heard a scream I ran out and the carnival which moments later was filled with people and laughter was now empty I slowly stepped down the steps to see if I could find anyone, and to go find were that scream came from. In the distance I could see people coming. So I rushed toward them to see if they knew where everyone had went and then I froze in terror everyone at the carnival had turned to zombies. So I turned around and started running to the club and then I remembered zombies hated sunlight but how could I get sunlight in midnight then I had an idea. “I rushed to the club and started getting the lights, I pulled them off the stage. I also got some mirrors so the light could reflect off the mirrors. The zombies were on there way and if the broke into the club they would kill me. So I got the lights and when the zombies came in I shined the lights. they started falling and they the just turned to dust I took the lights and setting them up all shining out the door just in time to see another big mob of zombies coming, when the lights hit them they turned into big balls of dust. I kept this up until the last one was
In Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, in the post-apocalyptic world that the man and the boy live in, dreams begin to take on the form of a new “reality.” As the novel progresses, the man’s dreams, initially memories remnant of his pre-apocalypse life, become “brighter” as the boy’s dreams become darker and nightmarish. Through the use of color and distinct language, McCarthy emphasizes the contrast between reality and dreams. The man’s reliance on bad dreams to keep him tied to the harsh reality alludes to the hopelessness of the situation; he can never truly escape. McCarthy suggests that those who strive for a life that no longer exists are deluded with false hope. Having dreams is a natural human tendency, but in a world that has become so inhumane, the man can’t even afford to retain this element of being human. The loss of the past is a concept that the characters living in this ashen world struggle with, and McCarthy presents memory as a weakness to be exploited.
“Ring, click.” You heard that right, that was the sound of sadness. That alarm means only one thing it is Monday! The first day of the week which means I have five days of school sigh, but wait what is that outside? I can barely see, but I can tell it’s white outside, wait what is that? It's snowing! “We are going to have a snow day!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs as I ran through my house!
Most times we want more than we can have. Appreciate the time you have with your loved ones, because one day they 're here and the other they 're not. "I 'm really trying to make it more than what it is, because everybody dies but not everybody lives." -Drake.
Years ago I had the most terrifying, shocking day of my life. I had between seven or eight years when this happened. The day before the accident, all my family was at my grandfather’s house. We all were eating the food my mother and my aunts brought, telling jokes at the dinner table. Meanwhile, I was playing with my cousins in the backyard. Everyone was enjoying the family meeting. As the time passed by and everyone was about to go home, my mother suggested the idea that we all should go at my grandparent’s ranch next day, since everyone was in town we all could have the chance to go. Everyone liked the idea. It was the perfect time to go because it was a weekend. As they all agreed to go, they begun to decide who bring what to the gathering. Who would have thought that thanks to that suggestion, I would lead me to the hospital the day of the reunion.
Love in all its forms is the best gift. The giving of it enriches the lives of both the giver and the receiver. So why is it that there are so many people in this world with no love in their lives.
