It was a bright sunny morning on my very first day of high school when I had announced to my best friend Justin that I was going to try out for the school basketball team. We sat at the rectangular lunch table comfortably while he chuckled in disbelief as if he weren’t taking me serious. I proceeded to yell at him in a jokingly matter when I noticed that I was overheard by a group of former basketball players. The group proceeded to walk past our table laughing and pointing fingers just as though an audience would to a comedian during a comic show. They were dressed in oversized bright red lettermen, each with an orange basketball patch on the side of his shoulders. I hadn’t known them for more than five seconds, but I instantly came to the conclusion that they were the average arrogant and bigoted jocks. I was a little discouraged by these actions, but little did they know I had been practicing this whole summer vigorously and had a few new tricks up my sleeve. Justin had …show more content…
After drills were done we immediately transitioned to scrimmages. Scrimmages were an essential part of try-outs. It was where the coach really paid attention to who would make the team or not. I was determined not to let anyone stop me from doing what I know best. The opposing team took the ball down the court with a slow pace and I immediately got a steal and ran down the court for the layup. I ran back on defense as they proceeded to take the ball down the court again. The other player put up a shot and missed. I ferociously grabbed the rebound and blazed down the court for another layup. I wiped the beads of sweat from my forehead and I knew this was the start of something new. It was something that I knew would lead me to great heights. I gained so much confidence and never looked back. By the end of the game, I finished with 22 points and 5 steals. I was so proud of myself for accomplishing everything and I knew I was no longer the
It was the most competitive three days of my life, basketball tryouts. This is the first time my friends and I were trying out for a school team, we were all hyped for basketball season. I entered the tryout excited and consequently energetic. Adrenaline was pulsing through all the players bodies, there were 6 foot tall 8th graders with years of experience competing against 6th graders who have never touched a basketball before for the same spots. I was in between, I was a 6th grader that had experience along with some skill. That was also my downfall, I went in overconfident and consequently cocky. I wasn’t planning on getting cut, I walked into the tryout overwrought, nothing could stop me from being on the team.
Basketball is a great sport for people that like to run because basketball involves running up and down the court.. Some people like basketball because they like the idea of the sport or the competition. Most people have something specific that they like about basketball. For instance: Some people like free throws better than threes. Everyone has a different opinion about the game or perspective of the game that they like or dislike about it.
I have been playing high school basketball as a Lady Hornet since my freshman year, and I firmly believe that I have given tremendous effort into being the most valuable player that I can be. Ever since I was a child, I have had an immense passion for the game of basketball. My mother played collegiate basketball at William Carey University, so all throughout my childhood, she was my main inspiration to play. I will be forever indebted to her for pushing me to play the fantastic sport of basketball because I have no idea who I would be without it. While playing this sport for almost thirteen years, I have learned many valuable lessons along the way that have influenced the way I live out my life.
I had been practicing harder than the rest of the kids in 7th grade, but yet they were still so much better than I was. I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I kept thinking that I wasn’t going to make the basketball team again. One day I had enough and just started working hard on building confidence in my shot. I would spend hours on end just trying to build confidence because I had no confidence in anything I did.
Making new friends, walking through the halls of a new school, and trying to become popular are a few concerns students stress over, prior to their first day of classes. I, Eitan Boutehsaz fell under this category as I made my switch from a private school, Yeshiva Ohr Chaim, to a public school, Great Neck North Middle School. It was the day after Labor Day, September 5, 2005, and I finally arrived at the institution where I would spend the next year attending. I was anxious, nervous, and in doubt of what this new chapter of my life at Great Neck North would have in store for me. At 7:35 A.M., I walked onto the stairs of the bus, but quickly realized I left my most prized possession at home, my basketball. I ran back into my house and took my basketball from its case on my chest. I ran back down the stairs and stormed out of my house, trying to get back my breath while sweating profusely, and got back on the bus. The bus was filled with excited-young peers’ ready to attend the first day of classes at a familiar school with friends; however, I had no reason to be happy. I was without my long time friends who I spent ten wonderful years with at Yeshiva Ohr Chaim. Nevertheless, I used my basketball as a means to get me through my first day of school because it was and will always be my “insurance policy.” Overall, my expectations for what Great Neck North would offer for me were not even close to what proceeded in the future. The year was filled with joyous occasions, academic success, the acquirement of best friends, flirtatious encounters with the opposite sex, and most importantly leading the Great Neck North basketball team to its first playoff appearance. In essence, as I reminiscence over my first year of public school, a framed...
At the end of the three weeks the team had an inter squad scrimmage so the coaches could actually see how we performed in an actual game. I went into that scrimmage very relaxed and confident and came out feeling very confident and knowing that I did what I needed to do to make the team. The day finally came where we found out if we made the team or not.
Basketball is a big part of my life, one year ago in tournament final game two of our best players were hurt and the team was relying on me. With the time winding down on the clock we were down 8 points. Somehow I got our deficit down to two points with 30 seconds left, after an intense defensive stop 10 seconds remained on the clock; our coach called a timeout. A play was drawn up for me to take the shot. Mitchell inbounded the ball to me as I came off of a screen, I had an some-what wide open shot, I took the shot, you could hear the crowd go silent as the ball left my hand and headed towards the basketball. It felt like everything was going slow motion, the ball was getting closer and closer to the hoop and I…….missed it. The buzzer sounded
I knew I would make the team but I didn't know if I would start so I was nervous. The end of the school day arrived, and I headed out to the football field after changing. I was hyped for tryouts. All of my friends were there, and we were all going to be on a team.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
Two years ago as an emblematic high school athlete, I along with my teammates went to support our middle school basketball team. In this setting I came across several people who are not as passionate about special needs children as I am. They have come across as being disrespectful in situations involving special needs children; which is heartbreaking as those children are my passion. Being that I have grown up playing basketball and relish it, I decided to go and support our middle school basketball team after practice one day along with a few teammates. Upon arrival, I was instantaneously drawn to watch the opponent during their warm up.
The Basketball Game Many people think of a basketball court as a place of chaos, such as a rodeo, but for some players it’s a place of relaxation. The way the lights gleam off the floor when you look at it. When you first step onto the floor and you can just feel the rowdy energy of the crowd, it makes you want to play your heart out like you know you can. Hearing the crowd celebrating every time you score an awesome basket or make a free throw. The amount of joy or nervousness you get when you play on your home court for the final time, is outrageous.
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
Can you imagine playing the game of basketball without a three point line? Basketball has constantly changed throughout history and continues to change today. The National Basketball Association has risen in popularity and is now one of America’s more popular sports. Because basketball continues to be a popular sport, a fan should learn about the origin of the NBA, how the game evolved from the late 1940s to the early 2000s, and how the players today impact the way it is played.
One month later its basketball tryouts school started in September so it was mid-October. Basketball season is approaching again and so are tryouts. This time I made a name for myself people knew I could ball. My confidence was through the roof, but now I had to display my talents to the coaching staff. This time I'm successful I make the team and even become head captain of the team.
Basketball Have you ever thought about being a basketball player? If so basketball players half to have these things to be able to be a consistent and a good player which are the following, rebounding, blocking out, teamwork, passing, communication and focusing. You will see some of these things that you use in normal life not just sports including focus, communication, and listening. In basketball one of the most important things you half to have is focus. If you don’t focus you could make a lot of mistakes, say you're in the middle of a game and you're supposed to be running a play you learned in practice and you didn’t pay any attention or focus on what he was saying so your in the middle of a game and the ball is supposed to be
