Napoleon Bonaparte was so Freaking Cool, Gosh Darn It
Napoleon Bonaparte is seen by many today as a careless dictator that oppressed his people and cared only for his personal power. Although this was a large part of his personality, Napoleon was more than that. Napoleon Bonaparte was a strategic military genius that conquered most of the European continent and also made advances in French civil liberties.
Napoleon Buonparte’s first cry was heard in the town of Ajaccio, an island of Corsica, France on August 15, 1769. As the fourth of eleven children, he was born into an already large family that was only going to get larger. He had “the same privileges as the French nobility” (Napoleon I) due to his father being considered a form of lesser royalty. By the time he was ten, he was sent off to the College of Autun in Burgundy, France to gain a military education along with his older brother. Sadly, the siblings were separated the following year when Napoleon was sent to the College of Brienne whilst his brother stayed behind. He stayed at Brienne for another five years, and earned many accolades throughout his education. Only five years later in 1784, he enrolled in the prestigious École Militaire of Paris. From here he began working with Louis XVI, and then joined an artillery unit in France, where he received most of the training that would impact his later military roles.
Napoleon ascended to the rank of second lieutenant, but his ambitions lied in his home, which was the epicenter of his dreams and thoughts. (Napoleon I) He was permitted an extended leave in 1786 to care for the upset caused by his father’s death. He returned several times to Corsica over the course of eight years, but afterwards turned his primary attention...

...ffort to retake his empire. However, his invasion didn’t last long as after the Battle of Waterloo (in which he suffered a crushing defeat by the British), he was once again forced to abdicate.
So as not to escape again, Bonaparte was exiled to the heavily guarded and remote island of Saint Helena. Napoleon Bonaparte died from what some thought was stomach cancer on May 5, 1821. Although Napoleon wished to be buried among his people, he was buried alone on the island instead. However, he was later taken to France where he is still received as a national hero today. Today, the Arc De Triomphe stands in the middle of Paris as a monument to his conquests throughout Europe.
Napoleon Bonaparte was an accomplished leader and military strategist whose schemes are studied even today. His Napoleonic code is still utilized in the political sphere. He was a fantastic man.
