Nap Pod
There has been big talk on a new invention called the Nap Pod. This new technology lets anyone be able to sleep for 20 minutes with relaxing music, sounds, and vibrations. The New York Post and the NPR have different sides on the Nap Pod; the reasons these two articles are different is because of the amount of bias, the audience, and the order of information that is being presented.
New York Post and NPR are alike because they talk about the same topic, but the difference in amount of bias between the two articles is quite easy to decipher. For example, the New York Post says, “In the end, I believe JetBlue would have been better off investing their money in safety measures rather than big, clunky chairs to snooze in. I’d rather lie on a blanket on the floor,” (Rosner, 2016). The New York Post seem to have a lot

In these two articles it is easy to convey who the audience is. For example, the New York Post says, “The goal is to soothe weary travelers to sleep and gently wake them about 20 minutes later,” (Rosner, 2016).The audience for The New York Post is tired travelers waiting for their plane to arrive. Having a Nap Pod in an airport may be very useful and comfortable, instead of sitting in a chair overnight waiting for your plane to arrive. Although these chairs cost a lot of money, it may be worth it. Another example is, the NPR says, “As it is now, the average school starts at 7:30 in the morning a short nap for a teenager can give a boost to memory and attention during the day, and it can increase school performance," (Neighmond, 2017). The audience for NPR is students that have to get up early for school (high schoolers) and are tired during school. Nap Pods in high schools give kids a chance to take a break and be able to focus more because they won’t be so
Christopher McCandless and Adam Shepard both did some similar targets in their lives, at the end it lead them to unexpected situations. Christopher McCandless was a young man who didn't believe in society and he chose to get away from that and left everything he had, including his family. He developed important relationships with key people that helped him on his journey into the wild. Similarly Adam Shepard was a young man who left with only $25 and a sleeping bag to go prove his point that the american dream does exist and to see if he can achieve it in a couple of months. Overall comparing McCandless and Shepard, Christopher McCandless had a greater impact in people, motivated many, and was selfish in plenty of good ways.
“The old argument that the networks and other ‘media elites’ have a liberal bias is so blatantly true that it’s hardly worth discussing anymore…No we don’t sit around in dark corners and plan strategies on how we’re going to slant the news. We don’t have to. It comes naturally to most reporters.” (Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News) This example is tremendously important in the author’s discussion because it proves that news stories do manipulate people through bias. Popular news networks are viewed by thousands of people every single day, thus making it have a huge impact on the public since they believe what they see. When news reporters present their news segments, it is natural for them to give their insights due to human nature being instinctively biased. “The news media is [sic] only objective if they report something you agree with… Then they’re objective. Otherwise they’re biased if you don’t agree, you know.” (CNN’s American Morning) In this quote, the readers are presented to current panelists agreeing that news consumers have a very hard time separating their own view of the news from the perspective of the news reporters because they are presenting their own opinions throughout their segments. This problem exists once again because of the bias that is contained in media
An analysis of Mycerinus and Kha-merer-nebty II and Augustus of Primaporta, reveals that there are many similarities, but also many differences between these two pieces of sculpture. These similarities and differences are found in the subject, style, and function of both works of art.
Prince Henry of Portugal, more commonly known as Henry the Navigator, and Zheng He, a successful Chinese admiral, were both extremely accomplished men throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. During this era, many accomplished explorers ventured out into the ocean and discovered new lands, two of the most important men being Henry the Navigator and Zheng He. Although both men came from different backgrounds, their contrasting societies and structures affected the way in which they regarded economic and political expansion and also their contact with other cultures. Societies like the Chinese and Portuguese had many cultural differences such as their different religions. The Chinese practiced neo-Confucianism whereas the Portuguese were Christians which was one of the many purposes of their exploration, to spread Christianity. There were also many cultural similarities between the two societies such as their long lasting histories and their explorer’s curiosity to seek out to new lands, which resulted the two societies in having different views on economic and political expansion and contact with other cultures. Both Confucian and Christian ideologies favored those who worked over the wealthy. Thus, to a larger extent, the structures and values of a society have an extensive impact on the way people view economic and political expansion and contact with other cultures.
Vladek and Guido use their skills and intelligence to endure a genocide that killed over 6 million Jews and 11 million people in total. Although sadly Guido did not make it through the Holocaust, his wife Dora and Son Giosué survived, thanks to the help of Guido. Vladek survived by using his many talents in the prison camps whereas Guido survived by his cunning intelligence and positive attitude. In the Books Maus I and II by Art Spiegelman, the author uses his fathers story of survival to create a book that unleashes vivid imagery of Vladeks time in Auschwitz, in addition to how it has affected him since. In the movie Life Is Beautiful Directed by Roberto Benigni, Guido was an average Jewish man living in Italy. When his family got taken to a Natzi death camp he managed to keep his son Giosué hidden, while doing so he jeopardized his own life. Both of these works display two brave men withstanding the worst race extermination in history.
Let’s start by taking a look at the bias side of electronic media. Take for instance the difference between Fox News and CBS. Both are news stations, both are intended to bring us the news, yet the way in which each station presents its stories to their viewers could not be more different. Few would argue the fact that Fox news appeals to the conservative audience while a station such as CBS would tend to be more liberal. This creates bias. To illustrate my point, let us take a look at how these 2 news stations covered the very same story in completely different ways.
Some people think that if they could only change one aspect of their lives, it would be perfect. They do not realize that anything that is changed could come with unintended consequences. “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs and “The Third Wish” by Joan Aiken both illustrate this theme. They demonstrate this by granting the main character three wishes, but with each wish that is granted, brings undesirable consequences. The main idea of this essay is to compare and contrast “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Third Wish.” Although the “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Third Wish” are both fantasies and have similar themes, they have different main characters, wishes, and resolutions.
Many people believe that liberal media bias is very relevant in this day in age, but really it is just a myth. Conservatives, also known as republicans, tend to forget that most of the American media is influenced heavily by corporate business owners(Schaller 49). Topics such as issues of war and peace, taxes and spending, and government regulation are heavily favorable to the conservatives. A study done by Media Matter for America shows that over sixty percent of U.S. daily newspapers publish conservative journalists rather than liberal(Schaller 49). On the other hand, it is obvious that some hot topics in the news are liberally skewed.
A 25- year old woman named Reality Winner was charged with a $250,000 fine for committing a felony and facing 10 years in federal prison. She leaked classified documents from the government. There were two articles that released information on what happened regarding Winner’s arrest. One article titled, "Don't Leak Lightly”; Sharing Classified Information is Risky, Even if it's in the Public, was published by The Baltimore Sun. The second article titled, "NSA LEAK INVESTIGATION”: Suspect in NSA Leak Faces was published by The Atlanta Journal. Even though both of the articles were published on June 9, 2017, they discuss different points about Reality Winner’s arrest. Although both articles discuss the case of Reality Winner, there are differences in the focus and purpose of the two articles.
The famous French playwright Moliere once said, “The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” Throughout our lives, we often are faced with hardships that cause us to change ourselves, the people around us, and the situation itself. Because of this, it may reveal our true characteristics to show who we truly are. In the memoirs “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls and “Warriors Don't Cry” by Melba Patillo, they vividly illustrate the story of how they faced their struggles. They both prevailed because of their tenacious mind sets, but handled the situations in both different and similar ways. The characteristics of the characters Jeannette and Melba show the similarities and differences between the characters.
...vided many key distinctions in regards to the stories covered and how. The best way to describe the differences can be drawn sharply along a line, and this line provides enough evidence to deduce the distinct purpose of each of these papers. The Wall Street Journal has its weight leaning towards money and matters of economic policy with an audience who most likely include people who are interested in matters such as these and the New York Times appeals to more of a general audience with stories that range from social issues to the arts. Even visiting the two organizations online, the New York Times has the option of going international and the Wall Street Journal does not. No matter if the news organization a reader may be receiving their information is a long and trusted source, questioning the truth of it can only help to understand matters at a much deeper level.
" The use of this anecdote helps readers better connect to the claim. By using this it helps the audience think of their own experiences of not getting enough sleep and connects it with Brody's claim. This quote is given at the beginning to start the article out with a personal feel. The use of an anecdote also helps show that Brody is knowledgeable in the issue concerning sleep deprivation. She knows that there is an issue in not getting enough sleep and she wants to convince people way sleep is so important.
Milner, C. E., Cote, K. A. (2008). Benefits of napping in healthy adults: Impact of nap length, time of day, age, and experience with napping. Journal of Sleep Research, 18(2), 272-281
Furthermore, there are clear distinctions in the type of naps that are commonly used. Some people may choose to nap to replace lost sleeping time, which is referred to as “replacement napping”, others may want to prepare for an extended period of wakefulness by napping, which is also known as “prophylactic napping”, and a third motivation to nap is described as appetitive napping, when a person naps for pure enjoyment of falling asleep (Milner & Cote, 2008). These three types of naps could apply to the subject of this particular study, which is a college student. College students are subject the enormous amounts of stress and pressure from parents and teacher to get all their work done, perform in the classroom, obtain good grades, etc… and they form a group that could profit largely from napping.
As of today, people have generally realized that the high school role is very similar to the college role and they both play a large aspect in the generalization of modern day school. Therefore, when a student decides to choose a school, the method is long and very tedious. They acknowledge every class offered and every sport available along with every extracurricular activity. However, a lot may compare and contrast high school with college. The aspects they grasp on people is not a secret and very important. Anyhow, the methods used to educate these students are very similar to each other although the differences are great such as the facilities they occupy and the extracurricular activities each offer. The academic courses vary in smaller
