NFL Breast Cancer Awareness
If many of you haven't noticed, NFL players and teams have been accessorizing in a variety of pink apparel this month and it’s not just coincidental. Three years ago the NFL teamed up with The Susan G. Komen Foundation, in a campaign that runs every October to raise Breast Cancer Awareness and encourage women 40 years and older to get their annual screenings. Of the 120 million Americans who watch football each week, about 40 million are women, making this an effective messenger of cancer awareness by the amount of viewers (Pucchronicle.com).
Each year NFL partners up with sporting brands including Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Gatorade, Wilson, Under Armour, Cutters Gloves, McArthur Towel and Sports and Longaberger having them create new pink merchandise for Breast Cancer Awareness games (nfl.com). Aside from players wearing pink mouth guards, gloves, chin straps, caps, helmet decals, sweatbands, and cleats, the NFL incorporates pink into other elements of the game as well. Pink coins are used for the coin toss, game balls sport the pink ribbon decal, end zones are padded along the goal post in pink, and officials even sport pink whistles as well as pins (nfl.com).
The players and teams aren’t the only ones who can help raise awareness, the fans are encouraged as well. If you’re a fan at home you can purchase licensed NFL pink apparel online with a potion of proceeds going to the American Breast Cancer Society. “Fans can also bid on all the official pink equipment and clothing used in the games and worn by their favorite coaches and players, which will be auctioned off after this month in order to raise more money for this cause (pucchronicle.com).” In 2010, NFL Auction and the sale of pink items allow...

The NFL position in this article makes them look very greedy and indifferent about the overall health of their football players. One of the ethical perspectives that can be used to analyze the NFL's position in this article is deontology. Deontology is the perspective where rules is the defining factor for ethical decisions. From the deontology perspective it makes it seem that the NFL has decided not to follow the rules and even blurred the lines as to what potential injuries their players can get. They wanted their injured players to play without having to follow through the with proper procedure in verifying that the players are in conditions healthy enough to play. It looks as if the NFL cares only about bringing in money and not care about

Football is a very violent sport. There is a lot of concern over the risks posed by hits that injure the head and potentially the brain. The players say they have suffered one or more brain injuries. They want the NFL and helmet maker, Riddell, to set up and pay for medical monitoring and treatment programs for all former, current and future NFL players. Liberals are big supporters of the respect for human dignity. In that case, the NFL tentatively agreed to pay $765 million to past players with health problems that can be caused by concussions. Although research and progress within the scientific and medical communities is understandably slow, the same could be said about the NFL's response to concussions and the dangers they pose to new research reveals new findings. However, some liberals believe that it has taken to long for the NFL to respond to the perceived crisis and its attempt to regulate the concussion treatments which could eventually lead to players ...
The National Football League has always been evolved in some sort of scandal and Nick Anderson, the cartoonist of Football Emergency, has a very strong opinion of the NFL. His cartoon is easy enough for anyone to understand whether or not they follow the NFL but is much more interesting with a little football knowledge. He tries to argue that the NFL is focusing on useless scandals like deflated footballs instead of the more pressing issues of domestic violence and concussions.
Per utilitarian ethics, no matter the link between football and CTE, the research the NFL’s actions would be considered ethical. Lack of certainty in the research makes deontological ethics more difficult to implement. Since the research did not directly related football to the brain injuries, there is not the same obligation to disclose research that is not definite. Parallel to if the information was conclusive the NFL fell into the ethical traps of money and conflict of interest. The NFL still had to wrestle with ethical traps even if the it was considered ethical to not disclose the research. Since the research could not exclusively blame football concussion to permanent brain injuries, the ethical decision was not as black and white as
The reason this is ,is because football can be dangerous sometimes according to reports .But now they are saying it is more protective and, more rules.Football is a very fun sport and,i don't believe all the statements the reporters are saying about the" high rate of the disease called CTE", and retired NFL players are getting long term health problems .I believe that the NFL can stop some of the roumors about the amount of concussion's happening ,they can do this by making uniforms a little more protective like the helmets and
In particular, in 1966 the National Football Associated founded the NFL Physicians Society to provide care for athletes and support athletic trainers (“The NFL Physician’s Society,” 2012). The physicians, therefore, are dedicated to promoting the health of their patients and protecting them from injury. The physicians promise to follow the code of ethics, including autonomy, informed consent, beneficence, non-maleficence, confidentiality, and justice. Sports, however, are heavily supported by the nation and highly competitive, resulting in conflicts in interest in health care from team physicians. Team physicians are influenced by coaches, parents, teammates, the nation, the need for success, and the players themselves to play athletes without full recovery, allow controversial procedures, decide whether to report violations in drug enhancing tests, and make decisions on disclosing personal information. Players elect to play for reasons that do not reflect an understanding of consequences and physicians struggle with controversial decisions to break confidentiality and report a player’s inability to play in order to prevent injury or harm. Physicians are required to follow the Health Insurance Portability and
The NFL is looking into Advanced Technology to assist in creating a safer game. To encourage more development of new technology and products to address concerns with player safety the NFL has created a system that incentivizes developers. We have created a “Engineering Roadmap” by bringing together people from academia, industry, government, and the NFLPA to determine the most pressing needs of our players. Helmets, Artificial Turf and the Ahead 3000 are the top developments in progress.

The National Football League is made up of 32 teams that were once founded in 1920 by a group of people who helped form the league. In the beginning the league wasn’t really structured to what it is now. Teams will just play and no playoff games, seeding’s, or the game itself matter because not only was the game was overshadow by America’s past time baseball, but it was difficult because the college game was established as well. Owning a team was extremely hard because owner’s will spent large amounts of cash and participate in bidding wars for players. Fast-forward to today’s day and age it is safe to say the NFL may be the most brutal and exciting game to play. Rule’s and norms are intact for teams to do things more ethical. Money is what really drives this business and of course constant advertisement to promote its brand. With some of that revenue, the NFL has opened a program called NFL: Play 60. The purpose of this program is to encourage kids to be physically active for 60 minutes in a day to reduce America’s child obesity. The NFL has been successful because in 2010 the first lady Michelle Obama announced it would be teaming up with NFL PLAY 60 as a health imitative for children. This was a great move for the brand because The First Lady’s office and...
In the modern day United States the sport American football has become not only entertainment but also a tradition whether it’s watching the BCS college championship or watching the super bowl with the family. The sport of American football is unique to the United States and has grown and became iconic over the years and has become a part of many Americans lives. American Football was made in 1869 and was modeled after the sport of rugby. They took the basics of rugby and changed it to make it fit better for them. The game has changed over the years but it also affected many Americans as the tradition of Monday Night football has begun. The game has had problems with the United States government as it was said to be too dangerous to play, this lead to an upgrade in the equipment and they tried very hard to make the equipment well ensuring player safety throughout the sport.
It has taken many years for women to gain a semblance of equality in sports. Throughout history, women have been both excluded from playing sports and discriminated against in sports. Men’s sports have always dominated the college athletic field, but women were finally given a fighting chance after Title IX was passed. Title IX, among other things, requires scholarships to be equally proportioned between men and women’s sports. Although this was a huge gain for women, gender inequality still exists in sports today. An example of this persisting inequality can be seen when looking at men’s baseball and women’s softball. In college, baseball and softball are both major NCAA sports. It is widely accepted throughout today’s society that baseball is a man’s sport, and softball is a woman’s sport. Very few people question why the two sexes are separated into two different sports, or wonder why women play softball instead of baseball. Fewer people know that women have been essentially excluded from playing baseball for a long time. This paper will focus on why softball has not changed the way women’s basketball has, why women continue to play softball, the possibilities and dynamics of women playing baseball with and without men, and the most discriminating aspect of women being banned from playing professional baseball.
