Sometimes people can forget about the silent fighters, the men and women fighting for the country, the United States Military. Many people are aware that there are different pay salaries for different occupations, for example a doctor will make more than a garbage collector. All occupation should pay what their worth? A doctor heals our bodies, but what would the world look like without anyone to remove the garbage? Both of these jobs are beneficial in different ways, but their pay is based on the amount of training required to perform the task. The highest salary of an NFL player is Drew Brees and he gets paid $23,800,000 annually (Gerencer). Not everyone in the NFL gets paid that much though; the average NFL players earns about $2,150,000 (Gerencer). The football players get paid by the owner of the team and endorsements. The owner then gets paid by the people who attend, the companies that sponsor, merchandise sold and the cities that they are in. On the contrary the US Military gets paid by the taxpayers, meaning the higher your members get paid the more you have to pay, or the less money the government can use to spend on other items (Thompson). Both the NFL and the military are considered professional athletes,according to Marissa Hager. They both require months of coarse training to become the best at there job. The football players entire week is filled with training for the next game and they are off a large portion of the year. On the other side, the military men and women are up before dawn running and hitting the gym before they put in their 8 hours at the profession that has been assigned to them. Still the NFL players are paid more than military members (Hager). “Americans pay far more attention to who wins or loses in football than to the decisions generals make that waste blood and treasure,” says Douglas Macgregor, a retired Army Colonel and bonafide military pot-stirrer.” What happens in a place remote from the United States, provides it does not effect the average American in a substantive way, is irrelevant (Thompson).” The NFL cooperation creates jobs: stadium employee's, tv production, product sales. The towns that the stadiums are located in, receive increased revenues and a boost to service industries. The entire job of a NFL player is to make the owner money, this is determined solely on how well they perform.
