Play style, rules differences, and passion for the game are on field differences between college football, and the NFL. There are also many off field differences, including money. Most general things about the game, are still the same though. Due to the differences between college football and the NFL, college football is more enjoyable to watch as a fan. While in college, football players live like normal college students. Most college athletes are rewarded scholarships for playing sports. This doesn’t make them different from other students though. They go to class, and live like every other college student on campus. This differs very much from life in the NFL. While in the NFL players make millions of dollars, and become celebrities. Unlike college football players, NFL players don’t live like regular people. They usually live in mansions, and have an abundance of riches. Because of this, it is easier for fans to relate to college football players. Coming into college football, players are being pursued by many …show more content…
different teams. Recruiting is a huge part of college football. High school players are recruited, and offered a scholarship if they impress the coaches. After being offered scholarships, players have a tough decision. Who should they play college football for? This is not a choice soon to be NFL players have. Coming out of college, players are examined by NFL coaches. If a team likes the player’s potential, they will add the player to their draft board. Then the waiting game begins. He hopes to hear his name called on draft night, and get the chance to fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL. He has no control over where he goes. By a player choosing a team, he makes fans before he even gets there because he decided to attend their college. College football and the NFL have rather significant differences in play style. The college game is usually fast paced, including hurry up offenses. Many college teams utilize a quarterback that is mobile. These quarterbacks allow offenses to move the passing pocket, and implement read, speed, and triple option plays into their game plan. Many offenses even have a second quarterback that specializes in these types of plays. These quarterbacks are normally brought in during short yardage or goal line situations. Some coaches will use these quarterbacks to provide a change of pace in the game when their offense seems to be having trouble moving the ball down the field. Although they do have some, the NFL doesn’t have as many mobile quarterbacks. The NFL has a methodical pace of play compared to the college game. Quarterbacks in the NFL are usually pocket passers that are really good at examining and dissecting defenses. A NFL quarterback is expected to go to the line of scrimmage, and recognize what the defense is doing. He should then be able to get his offense into the best possible play to exploit the defenses weaknesses. Due to the fact that the talent is greater in the NFL, there are not as many big plays, as seen in college. The big plays and fast paced offenses keep fans attention, and make the college games more exciting to watch. College football and the NFL have several rule differences. In college football, to complete a catch you must keep at least one foot in bounds, and maintain possession to the ground. College football officials can choice to eject a player for targeting, if the player launches at the head or neck area of a defenseless player. This also results in a fifteen yard penalty against the team. Overtime in college football goes like this. They flip a coin; the winning team picks whether they want to start on offense or defense. Then each team gets a possession from their opponents twenty five yard line, there is no game clock, only a play clock, and each team gets one time out. If the first team scores a touchdown, this forces the opposing to have to score a touchdown to force a second overtime. If they fail to do so the game is over. Starting in the third overtime, teams are required to go for a two point conversion after a touchdown, instead of kicking an extra point. The NFL’s overtime rules are totally different. They flip a coin to see who receives the opening kickoff. There are fifteen minutes in the overtime session. If the team who receives the kickoff scores a touchdown on their first drive, the game is over. If they score a field goal the opposing team gets a chance to tie the game or score a touchdown and win. If they kick a field goal to tie, then the next team to score would win. The NFL also says that to complete a catch you have to get two feet inbounds, and maintain possession to the ground. Although NFL officials don’t eject players for targeting, they penalize players for unnecessary roughness, and usually are fined by the commissioner’s office. The difference in overtime is the biggest one. Most fans agree that the college football overtime rules are better. The college rules allow both teams an equal opportunity, unlike the NFL rules. There is also a difference in passion for the game between the NFL and college football.
In college there are hated rivals that can’t stand each other. This causes college fans to have lots of pride in their teams. College stadiums also have student sections, which take the atmosphere on game day to the next level. College players know how the fans feel. This inspires them to play their hardest, and leave everything on the field to represent their school. In the NFL, instead of playing for a team because you want to represent them, players will play for teams who offer them the longest and largest contracts. Players hold out from participating in training camp because they want a bigger contract, and some even sit out games. The NFL seems to be more like a business, and geared towards making money. NFL players holding out, and being focused on money angers fans. Not all players are like this, but fans feel that the ones like this are being
selfish. These differences make watching college football and the NFL rather different. College football is more enjoyable to watch as fan, due to the fact that the game play is faster, there are big explosive plays, and the players play with a lot of passion for the game. The NFL is enjoyable to watch too, but fans don’t seem to have the same type of pride in their NFL team as in their college team.
College athletes have a goal that they pursue. The jump to the professional sports leagues is an accomplishment that most college athletes wanted to achieve. But most college athletes go to college and forego completing their senior year and don’t get a degree. In basketball most athletes are one and done. This means they go to college for only one year then enter the NBA draft. For the NFL players have to be out of high school for three years and necessarily don’t have to go to college.
Sports bring friends, family and our country together more so than political debates or even church on Sunday. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball or everything in between everyone has their favorite team that they cheer for regardless if they are the shits or number one. Americans will have gatherings of their friends every week of the season to watch games and “support” their teams from hundreds of miles away. Sports have an enormous impact on our society in every way shape and form, whether it is kids pretending to be their favorite super star while playing in the yard or it is co-workers participating in fantasy sports or making March Madness brackets, but which is the most entertaining, is it the professionals that are paid millions of dollars to play or college kids struggling to get by while trying to earn an education?
Association such as the NFL and NBA aren't filled with a lot of people. Barely anybody will actually make it that far, and some people practice for countless hours. "According to a poll from last year only 7.6% of highschool athletes play for college level sports, and only 1.7% go pro from college sports. And when you think about it people who play for college had to practice for such a large amount of time and there not even pro (Manfred)!" So why should the 55.5% of students who play ...
through scholarships, these scholarships will help them get money later on in life using their degrees. The podcast by Doug Merril also said "being a college athlete is a choice it defiantly isn't a mandatory thing." Becoming a college athlete is a decision each player has to make the individual player chose to play a particular sport this does not warrant the right for a player to get paid if they want to be paid be good enough to play after college
Football is a game of adversity and emotion. People who have not played a sport or follow one closely don’t understand the emotion behind game. They think that football is just a game, but for those who are involved with the team don’t think so. All those horrendous hours of countless preparation are for something players and coaches love. About a few years ago, a football player at the collegiate level was told that he wouldn’t be able to play another down of football again due to his banged up h...
... money to live. They are most likely not capable of getting a part time job, especially during season because of their hectic schedule. They do not always have the financial support of family while they are away. College athletes are also at risk multiple injuries that could lead to them being let go from the team. It would be great if they were allowed to keep their scholarships as long as they kept their grades up. They also should be able to make at least a percentage off of their own names. Businesses make products using their names, jersey numbers, faces and can make thousands of dollars and none of it will go to the athlete. That is not right and it is really just another form of slavery. College athletes are controlled by these organizations and their contracts that tell them what they can and cannot do; yet, they are not paying them anything.
Football is known around the world but unfortunately not played. Football is an American based sport which ironically is played only in the United States, while soccer on the other hand is played all over the world. Another difference is the kit/protective gear used in playing. In football, Helmet, Shoulder/Chest pad/protector, upper leg padding and mouth guard are rightfully required while in soccer, Shin guards and Boots is all that is required. This is why Soccer is considered a gentleman 's sport played by beasts and Football is a beastly game played by
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a voluntary association of colleges and universities, run by President and staffed by several hundred employees. The goals of the organization are specific to the studentathlete: to promote college athletics, to prepare the athlete for a lifetime of leadership, and to provide funding to help accomplish these goals. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) comprises about 300 mostly smallsize institutions, many of which emphasize the link between education and athletics more strongly than revenue generation. The NALA was formed to regulate intercollegiate basketball, but late changed in 1952.
Emil Zatopek once said “An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.” This quote applies to every college athlete. The quote means that an athlete may not be getting paid in college, but if they put in the hard work and dedication they can make it to the big leagues. College football is the second most watched sport in America. And the athletes playing the game do not even get paid a penny to play the game. In the sports world. this has been talked about for an extremely long time. College athletes put their body on the line for injury. They put their grades in on the line because of the hours they put on the court, or field (Keolanui). They also sell their apparel at the game and at stores and they get no money at all (Keolanui).
...s in both games are different, but both games are played with an aim to score points. One would wonder what the game of football will be like without a referee. There is a referee that controls and brings about order in both games; the number of referees are sometimes the same. Football games do have three to five referees at a giving time overseeing the game. This is the same with soccer, although it’s just a recent development. Both games can trace their origin to the nineteen century. Both games are team games that demand the contribution of every team member.
They could come from a poor family and their family could have to use their funds to pay for his college expenses which could cause his family to struggle. Players would want to do other things other then football at some point of time and using there own money could help out others . Athletes in college also have books and other educational expenses and could use some of the money made from the league giving to them could be beneficial and not worry about would they be able to afford things for next year. Money made in college by athletes could determine their
One the most ardent rivalries in college football is the Army Black Knights vs Navy Midshipmen. Every year, the game draws more viewers as it’s seen as one of the greatest game of the season. As an alumni of the Naval Academy, Navy football holds a significant place in my heart. The big game is something that I look forward to watching every fall. In 2015, the game played in Philadelphia, PA at the Lincoln Financial Field on December 12th with Navy winning 21 to 17. As a result of this win, Navy has been on a 14 year winning streak, the longest they have ever had.
One similarity is that they both need team-play. Though the number of players may differ from each sport, it’s still a cohesive unit that represents the team. The more a team works together, the more the group bonds and increases performance, which eventually leads to success in games. These sports also share the same athletic ability requirements. While not everyone who play these sports produce a career in the NBA or NFL, they still require athletic ability to play competitively. You should have the capability to throw, catch, dribble, run, etc., with the
Football and Soccer have a lot of similarities and differences. Some differences is that football uses a long ball and soccer uses a round ball. In football you get 6 points when you score and in soccer you get 1 point when you score. In soccer you have to stop scoring when you are ahead by 7 goals. In football you don’t have to stop even when you are up by 100 points. In football you use you hands and in soccer you use your feet. In soccer you steal the ball and in football you tackle people to stop them. Football is only played in the USA, while in soccer it’s played worldwide. Some similarities are that they are both played with a ball. In both sports 1 team has the ball at once. In soccer and football you kick the ball at least once every
NFL players need an education in case of injuries or if they can’t play for any reason. Players can have a degree in any type of subject. If a player wants to play in the NFL, he has to attend a college or a university that has a good football program. Some players come from high school but most players come from a four year college (Field 11). If you have a son that is going to be in the NFL who wants to play linemen, he has to be about 6’8” tall and weigh around 350 lbs. Players have to know the game. They can’t hope to be a NFL player if they don’t understand how to play the game (Green 174).
