My Writing Experience

Throughout this writing course, I have learned several new skills and have met many of my goals as a writer. I have developed a personal style and enhanced my way of writing, as well as created new goals that I hope to fulfill in the future. I chose to take this course independently outside of my classes for extra credit. Last year, I took the first semester of creative writing in school and I loved it; the assignments were enjoyable and I learned many valuable writing skills. That’s why I wanted to take the second semester now, and I am so glad I did. I have learned and grown so much in only a few months, and I am very proud of myself. My stories from the last few units have had a sadder tone and even endings with negative outcomes. This is something I’ve never tried before, but it worked out well. In The Cost of the Crown, the protagonist slowly became the antagonist, and succeeded in taking power. In Dear Mom, we learn that the narrator, Grace, is going to die, and that her mother had been dead the entire time. Both of these stories were influenced by sadder novels I had recently read both for and outside of school, and I am pleased with the results. I have also learned how to use foreshadowing effectively and create interesting and unexpected plot twists. Most importantly, I have began using imagery in a way that shows the reader the environment and setting of specific stories. Most of the time, I choose not to include imagery, but when I do, it is worthy of attention. In the Nonfiction assignment, I wrote about my first flight lesson at Barnes Aviation. At first I struggled to include sensory details and perfect images to make the reader feel the same way I felt. As the writing continued, it became easier to write in the
