Being born in the Philippines, my uncle would always blast the stereo around the time of December and I would regularly peer at the window on the second floor to look at the fireworks while also checking to see if my mother came home. Since Filipinos love to celebrate Christmas with their families, numerous amounts of people would gather in a group to perform or listen to music. After some time, my family moved to the United States for more job opportunities as well as a better life. Growing up in West Covina, California, I learned more about myself through music when I acquired violin and piano skills. Now, I recently turned seventeen on the 16th of February and I have turned into a free-spirited young adult. This soundtrack as a whole represents …show more content…
I hope I gain an understanding about myself as well as a connection with other people through this project. Since I am very picky when it comes with sharing music with other people and I decided to pick these eight songs, I see myself listening to this music later in life as well as being more confident in my music. With this project, I received the chance to sort out all my once messy list of songs to a well-organized playlist. I hoped that with my soundtrack, I acknowledged the power and impact of music along with its effect on the moods on others. Like Charlie, Music helped me vent my negative emotions when I was younger when I needed to calm myself down or when I needed to focus on doing my homework. I also managed to listen to Charlie’s mixtape and relate to him as …show more content…
Granted this is the first and only song without lyrics, but that’s what makes it unique. In my opinion, this song overall encompasses the tendency to be misunderstood, because sure it does sound sad but it's still beautiful. Next is “Kids” by MGMT and in my interpretation, it shows the different stages in life. First, you start out as an innocent child in a world, with a beautiful smile that could make any parent proud. As you grow older you begin to lose your innocence and fall into societies ways and you begin to lose the meaning of the actual important things in life. I feel this songs represents a constant battle between good and bad, and the lyrics are from the singer’s experience. This beautiful song reminded me to be satisfied the things given to me which led to the next song “Nothin’ On You” by B.o.B. This song made me reminisce about the past and to my interpretation this song is about wanting to pursue something and then letting it go when you feel like going forward with it is pointless to do so. The fourth song is called “Bad Blood” by Bastille and unlike the previous songs, this track is about a past friendship that went sour. During high school, we lose friendships but that’s part of growing up. The song after and the fifth song is “Try Again” by Aaliyah. Even if this song came before I existed, I would hear this song on the radio and it inspired me to try. With that, the next song is “Starboy”
In the book Our America: Life and Death on the South Side of Chicago, LeAlan Johns and Lloyd Newman, as two kids grow up in ghetto, document their life from 1993 to 1996 to show the rest of the America the reality of living in a poor black neighborhood. Through vast interviews, diaries and monologues, Johns and Newman provide a new perspective on the ongoing issues in the ignorant black community; they encourage the black residents to express their point of views on gang, drug, crime, and they also address their hope. Since this book is story with long time span and fragmental writing styles, it is impossible to finish the soundtrack for chapters in detail within eight songs. Therefore, if I am going to be the music composer of the movie based on this book, I would choose eight songs for the following eight themes.
For this assignment it was very difficult to pick just five of my favorite songs but, I tried to narrow it down to the most meaningful and memorable ones. 1. CHILDHOOD. This song is called Rosas by la Oreja de van Gogh.
The first piece of work i chose for this assignment was a song called Sleeping lessons by The Shins. The Shins are a popular band that is known for their rock sound. Each song has deeps lyrics and leaves the listener with their own interpretation of the song. Many of The Shins songs touch on existential themes.
I can personally relate this song to my past relationship with a guy of 2 years. We had many rough patches while we were together. There were things in the relationship that I can never erase; yet I feel as though I will never fully let him go. He's still trying so hard to get me back and I'm taking advantage of it. I get many mixed emotions about him and the thought of starting up the relationship again. The hardest part is that he's the only person I truly feel I can completely be myself around. Yet, I fear that it will start right back where it ended. All he wants to be is my giving tree and make me happy.
In 2004 Green Day came out with a hit song named “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” which was a huge addition to the punk rock music genre growth of the early 2000’s. Their song illustrates the thoughts of a teenage boy who feels alone in his mind. Throughout the song the boy mentions the empty streets that he walks on as well as his shadow which is the only one that walks beside him. The idea that his mind is split into two sections which he has names “what's fucked up” and “everything’s alright” plays a factor in his depressed mindset. The use of juxtaposition and metaphors in Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” illuminates the idea that failure leads to loss of confidence and isolation.
Don’t pick a song just because you like it, it must have meaning. Your list must be typed and include the following information: Song title, artist, and a short three to five sentence explanation as to why the song represents you.
It did surprise me when I learned it was a song about love. Even then when you learn that it is a love song you can’t chalk it up as another cheesy breakup song like a majority of them because of the way the song sounds. I explained how this song is very heartbreaking but in a peaceful way and that’s exactly how the meaning of the song is represented. The deeper meaning of the song is sometimes it is better to let go of something than to hold on to it longer. In the song, it starts out happy to represent why you first became attached to something, “From walking home and talking loads, To seeing shows and evening clothes with you.”, “To staying up and waking up with you.”
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
While some of the songs may have a specific meaning, it is up to the listener to decide what they
During the whole story the main Character Janie, has been Investigating love her whole life and she had dreams that she’s always wanted to chase but her grandmother’s teachings set her back. When she finally finds love with a man named tea-cake it changes her life and makes her see life in a new way. That’s why I chose these songs. Because They connect, to love and dream chasing. In my first song, “Dreams” by J.cole, we see the theme of love and finding that perfect girl in the lyrics of the song. In the song
The song is interesting because reading the lyrics, listening to the song, and watching the music video all give different meanings about the song. Reading the lyrics suggests that the song is a depressing story about the inner turmoil the writer is feeling and how he is not sure what to do with his life. But after listening to this upbeat and happy song, it seems like it may not be as dreary as it seemed at first. After watching the music video the message can be reinterpreted to be about the internal conflicts of a soldier fighting in a war and he does not know what he is fighting for. The fact that the music completely changes how the lyrics are interpreted is interesting. Nate uses many literary techniques to make this song mysterious and open to interpretation depending on how it is experienced.
Despite the world being full of diverse people with varying accomplishments and skill sets, people oftentimes assume the qualities and traits of an individual based purely on the stereotypes set forth by society. Although these stereotypes are unavoidable, an individual can be liberated, empowered and ultimately overcome these stereotypes by obtaining an advanced education.
This acapella performance is eventually cut short at the one minute and twenty nine second mark of the song as the instrumental background is eventually introduced. This song is witness to the events that are causing destruction among different civilizations. While on this planet contains several different civilizations we are all forced to live on the same planet. We all share the same drop of blood that connects us to the problems faced in the world. Jackson shows this by lyrics such as “what have we done to the world”. A reference to the idea that we are our own worst enemy in a sense. This song leaves the listener impacted with a progressive idea of the spreading of peace. In this song you can hear the raw emotion that Jackson is expressing in his work. A sign that he is truly committed to his belief of
Television has affected every aspect of life in society, radically changing the way individuals live and interact with the world. However, change is not always for the better, especially the influence of television on political campaigns towards presidency. Since the 1960s, presidential elections in the United States were greatly impacted by television, yet the impact has not been positive. Television allowed the public to have more access to information and gained reassurance to which candidate they chose to vote for. However, the media failed to recognize the importance of elections. Candidates became image based rather than issue based using a “celebrity system” to concern the public with subjects regarding debates (Hart and Trice). Due to “hyperfamiliarity” television turned numerous people away from being interested in debates between candidates (Hart and Trice). Although television had the ability to reach a greater number of people than it did before the Nixon/Kennedy debate, it shortened the attention span of the public, which made the overall process of elections unfair, due to the emphasis on image rather than issue.
Qualities That Make For Great Funeral Directors Many people think that what makes a great funeral director is charisma, empathy and in some cases, great sales skills. This is because these are, as it were, the conventional traits of great funeral directors. However, the nature of this profession is changing radically, and a lot more is expected of them. There are some qualities that funeral directors may overlook.
