This scene is from the book, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece, by Annabel Pitcher. In this book, a young boy, Jamie, tells his family’s story after the death of his sister Rose. Rose was a twin and was killed by a Muslim terrorist bombing in London. Ever since the incident Jamie’s family has been torn apart and struggling to live a happy life. There were many important themes that were discussed throughout this novel. However, I felt that the main theme of this novel was the importance of not giving up, which is strongly demonstrated by Jamie, and to not judge an individual on the outside but what lies within. In other words, don’t judge someone by his or her race. Jamie’s father portrays this theme throughout the book. Due to the death of Rose, he has resentment and hates the entire Muslim population. My tableau illustrates what I thought was the most important scene of the book. This scene occurs after Jamie and Jas audition on Britain’s biggest talent show. During this scene, I believe that Jamie had a lot going through his head and if I could defrost the scene this is what I believe Jamie would have said.
I was so proud of Jas for fighting off her nerves and performing in front of the judges. I can’t believe we both almost chickened out. I now know why they say that Britain’s biggest talent show can change your life. I still have butterflies from the excitement of being on the stage. I just wish Dad, Mum, or Sunya were here to watch us. It has been almost 200 days now since I have seen Mum. She didn’t come on parent’s evening or Christmas like Jas and I had asked. I really miss her but I am beginning to think that she does not feel the same. She must be too busy with Nigel. I don’t even have my hopes ...

I really enjoyed this book and recommend this novel to other readers. My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece This book was an enjoyable, easy read but also dealt with some popular issues that are seen in our world today like racism, alcohol abuse, and angst. There were many pivotal scenes that were very important in making this book what it is and the book had my emotions in full swing. Throughout this novel there were scenes that made me cringe, smile, laugh, and even want to cry. In the end, there was never a dull moment throughout this novel. My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece is a must read and is one that I can promise that you will not be able to put down.
