My father is my role model throughout my university life. He graduated from University of Indonesia in 1985 with a degree in business management. The university life changed him into an ambitious father who has visions and missions for his life. His dream of owning a company since his university life is one thing he has accomplished. The university has helped him discover what he wanted and gave the path that led him to his long-term goal through practices that were given by education and experiences. His accomplishment in life made me realize the importance of attending university. Going through university is the best way to prepare students for the real life that they must face in the future.
Nowadays, most employers prioritize hiring students who have university degrees. Having university degrees does not make students become a better person. However, university degrees are a way to ensure employers that students with degrees are equipped with knowledge and experience to work in their companies. There are benefits for students who have degrees; they are more prepared academically and practically in problem solving. For example, engineering students are trained in the field of machines so when these students get their degrees, they are able to handle the required equipment, which can be an asset that will help them to get the job they want. Universities also equip students with the required skills that are needed in workplaces by providing essential knowledge and assuring students to get jobs and thus succeeding in their majors.

Scholarship is academic study or achievement; learning at a high level. For as long as I can remember I have had A’s and B’s in all of my classes. I have been in the proficient class since I was in 6th
Contrary to popular belief, a college education can help with any job, regardless of whether the job is within a certain major or not. In fact, a college graduate even benefits if they take up a job as a plumber or a police officer- not only from their academic education, but also from learning important skills such as persistence and discipline (Leonhardt). Having a college experience and exposure to the world creates well- rounded people with higher skills and work ethics- and therefore better workers. Though they aren’t immune to being turned down, college graduates are more likely to actually get jobs, and be paid more for them, as shown in a study d...
College makes students see life as a young adult because the student’s parents are not around while they are enrolled at a university. College will give people a feeling of freedom by not being around their parents when having to make difficult decisions. Students can do whatever they want to do without any hesitation. It will let students make mistakes and learn from them. Students being to make life long relationships. Students basically gain independence when they are out there by themselves with no type of help. Students that are in college can be exposed to worst things like drugs and alcohol. Students will learn that it is time to grow out and come to the reality of working and making a living of something. Also, in college students experience fraternities or sororities they can join unlike high school. Students learn that if paper works needs filling out they are held responsible for filing the paperwork out. The student has to make sure he or she has food to eat so they might have to eventually get a job to buy the food. Freshmans get to experience all the new activities or clubs that are at the college or university they are attempting to attend. The seniors of the college realize that it soon will be time to move out of their guardian’s house and start a journey of their own by moving out and getting their personal place. At some universities they have dorms, which sometimes be shared with roommates . Roommates
Higher education, to me, is meant for learning about what life truly entails. It is to teach the student, not to find every answer in life, but to create more questions that will eventually need to be answered. Ronald Barnett wrote The Idea of Higher Education, in which Barnett wrote about how higher education, “is not complete unless the student realizes that, no matter how much effort is put in, or how much library research, there are no final answers”. Ronald Barnett’s intended meaning in his selection is to explain that higher education is not supposed to be just like secondary education. Higher education is supposed to destroy the student’s “taken-for-granted world” in which they had been raised and taught to know. First world students have been raised in a place where education is offered to almost everyone, where most people live with roofs over their heads, and have food in their bellies every night. Higher education reveals life and its hardships, and how it affects us and the people we are surrounded by. It shows the truth about the world, and uncovers the information that
"College graduates earn more than one million dollars more than high school graduates over their lifetimes." Every teenager has been bombarded with this much-cited statistic in the hope that it will convince him or her to intend a university after high school. But, is it actually the university education that leads to the inequity in salaries between college and high school graduates? Superficial reasoning would suggest yes. It is obvious that the additional education increases the college graduate's human capital and maybe this does lead to greater productivity and higher wages. However, this only seems probable if you ignore what universities actually teach. The majority of what is taught at universities will be of no use to their graduates in their future careers. If the purpose of a college education was to increase relevant work-related skills they would look more like vocational schools where students would specialize in particular skills relevant for their future careers, rather than studying small amounts of every subject. Instead, to a large extent, the purpose of college is to act as a costly signaling mechanism to assist employers in screening employees. A college education is more about showing off than acquiring useful job skills. However, this showing off comes at an enormous price. We waste billions of dollars per year on this showing off, not to mention the four years of someone's life. These tremendous social costs require us to rethink hiring practices and how universities serve their students.
Scholarship is characterized by a commitment to learning. This pillar can only be achieved through diligence and effort. Scholarship means always doing the best work possible, regardless of a reward. Due to the meaning behind this pillar, I have always strove to be the best scholar I could be. I have committed myself to academics and learning
Pursuing a higher education is a way of bettering yourself for the world. By bettering yourself, you can impact and change the lives of others, helping with education and being involved in the quality in which others learn to live. Higher education can help to create a work environment that will impact you and your family. Better education also means better wages to extend the value of your education by increasing your yearly income.
As a high school student, school can be difficult to balance between extracurricular activities, church, volunteering, family, friends, and everything else that goes on. This brings me to the first pillar, scholarship. I feel I reach the standards because through my first two years of high school I have kept a GPA of 4.5, taken many preAP courses, and I was rewarded the scholar
A college degree is one of the best educations that a person can get. It not only develops your mind, but it helps to develop you as a person as well. No matter what kind of degree you receive, whether it be a bachelors, associates, or masters you are more likely to get a better job than without it or with just a high school diploma. Workers with a college degree will earn much more and are much less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school diploma. This paper will argue that with a college degree you are more likely to get a higher paying job than without a degree. I will support this argument with multiple scholarly articles and other valid sources to further convince you.
Scholarship is Academic study or achievement. I displays scholarship through my school work and grades. I have tried to take the classes that are going to really help me in the real world, not just the ones that are easy or fun. Through high school I have chosen to take electives such as spanish and accounting. I have also opped to take harder classes through high school such as chemistry over physical science, and I even started taking high school math in eighth grade so as a freshmen I was taking sophomore math classes. I would say that even with
The pros of getting a degree is endless it seems but for most cases it means getting a good paying job in their field that the degree says. Having the degree in the back pocket also brings a sense of pride once it is achieved puts a chip on the shoulder when they walk into the interview for a high paying job. Pride is shown once that diploma is handed over, and will always be a ring around the head of the graduate and that pre mentioned chip on the shoulder will propel them into workplace with extreme confidence. These graduates set themselves up once they decided they wanted to get out of their bad situations or just make an easier life for them or their families. Tough situations arise once the learning process begins in the road to obtain the degree, however, it gets made easier once they network their name out into the campus and the
A college education can broaden one’s career horizons and help them achieve stable employment. Through education one can expand their intellectual capacity along with financial scope. “ The median person with a bachelor 's degree earns about $48,000 per year, compared with $27,000 for a high school graduate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau” (Haltom 14). To find employment, the quality of jobs we get generally goes up according to how much college education we have. There are employment opportunities for individuals with and without a degree. However, with a degree, it is possible to explore more options and create a better future. While there are employment opportunities for those who do not have a college degree, earning a degree it important because it opens the door to gainful employment, allows one to negotiate benefits, and helps one remain employed.
After all this paper, the most important conclusion is that a university degree is a tool, but not a ticket to success. It is not saying that is not worth going to college; but, surely, it was not as good as was in the 80s. Another important fact to be clear about is that degrees does not guarantee success, people do.
