Philosophy of Nursing
Nurses are the heartbeat of the healthcare. Being a nurse defines me – it is a proud profession. Nursing is a calling, a vocation, and implies commitment and altruism. Nursing is a noble career that allows me to help people, bring cheer, hope, and comfort to those in need. As Florence Nightingale said, “Nursing is an art… It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts." This paper will embody my personal philosophy of nursing.
I chose nursing as my profession because it is the best mélange of the features I would like to display in caring for my patients. Nursing is the totality - caring of people who are healthy as well as those who are sick. Nursing is science. It includes information and education. It represents the use of clinical judgment in caring for people and help them to improve, maintain, or recover health, to cope with health problems, and to achieve the best possible quality of life.
