In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, their parents are martinets about who they should marry, looking for aspects in a mate such as looks and wealth. As for my mother, we share similar ideas on what my “perfect mate” should be like in areas such as physical appearance, personality, and expectations. Although most of our views are similar, there are some slight differences in what we believe to be “perfect.” My mother and I agree about half way on behalf of the physical appearance for my “perfect mate.” My personal preference concerning looks is that they should have blue eyes and well-trimmed hair. I am not a very shallow person, therefore certain aspects do not matter when choosing a “perfect mate.” My mom did not mention anything about looks, therefore it can be assumed she does not have a preference of what my future mate looks like. My mother believes that my perfect mate holds the qualities of intelligent, a good sense of humor, respectful, and supportive. She mainly wants a mate who would respect me as well as be able to make me laugh. I believe that my partner should be open minded, respectful, and caring about not only my feelings, but other people’s feelings as well. My mother’s expectations for the personality of my “perfect mate” were not necessarily the same as mine, however, our views were not contrasting.
