If I was to make a movie based off the book My Paddle to the Sea, I would change various scenes from Lane’s perspective on his journey. I would make the scenes more interesting by including more action scenes, descriptive details along the river, and less historical events. Do not get me wrong, Lane’s history lessons are quite intriguing to older viewers, but young adults will most likely skip over pages unless there are various action scenes. If I were to direct the movie, it would not be similar to Lane’s book or the journal like aspect and would include pictures from the past that go along with some of Lane’s history lessons. Next, I would keep most of the same characters from Lane’s book, especially the characters from chapters “The Blessing”, “Rio Reventazon”, and “Wood’s My first scene will start with Lane pondering the idea of paddling roughly 300 miles to the sea alone. I will have the audience believe Lane is determined to go on the trip alone as if it would be man verse wild. As the audience gets to know Lane they will understand he is changing from a solitary man into an adventure man with a strong passion for friendship and nature. Nevertheless, Lane will start off in his backyard with only a kayak, some cans of food, and a Swiss Army knife. Lane’s first changing point will happen on his catastrophic Costa Rica trip, when they lost a guide on the river. One of my main focuses will be on Lane realizing that he needs his friends to help him continue the journey to the sea. Then, the movie will continue with his friends Venable, Vermont, and Steve Patton who will all discover a true happiness in paddling along the South Carolina Rivers. To conclude, Lane and Venable will be the stars in my movie and they will speak for the rivers to explain all the remarkable stories that have happened on these rivers that will lead them to the
