I am doing my mother 's side of the family. My mom 's father is Ronnie Miles. His father was Grady Miles and his mother was Gwendolyn Miles née Witmore. My mom 's mother is Yvonne Miles née Arant. Her father was John Arant and her mother was Lola Arant née Killough. Three Miles brothers came from Northern Ireland because of the Potato Famine. Grady Miles was a direct descendant of one of those brothers, named Hezekiah Miles. Very little is known about the Witmores. We cannot identify the original Witmore who came to the United States. The oldest Witmore in our family tree was Robert Witmore who was a school teacher in the 1840s. Robert was illegitimate but took his father 's last name. His father was a soldier of British origin who was highly educated with excellent penmanship. The Arants are far more researched. Hermann Arant 's family came to the United States from Hessen, Germany in 1733. They arrived on the USS Hope. They wanted to come to the New World. The Arant family were keepers of the law and justices of the peace, as well as innkeepers and merchants. The Killoughs were Scot-Irish, the family having moved from Scotland to North Ireland. John Killough was my ancestor. He was born in Antrim, Northern Ireland and came over in the 1720s and died just after the American Independence. 74f09dd0-df7f-44fe-a72b-c865cfc737bc My maternal grandparents, Ronnie Miles and Yvonne Arant. 566cf9e7-1a3d-4581-b5d7-cf57d87243bc My maternal grandfather 's parents, Gwen Witmore and Grady Miles. 25a5456e-7e4c-4c6d-9a8a-892c0ad38901 My maternal grandparents, Ronnie Miles and Yvonne Arant. My nuclear family first lived at Arant Rd, Monroe, NC 28112. It was a trailer right next to my maternal grandparents. The Arants have been living on that ... ... middle of paper ... ... Yorktown, and Jamestown. I 've been to Disney World three times and am going again for my Senior Trip. Disney World is easily my favorite vacation spot, with Washington D.C. coming in second. As for awards I 've received, I tied for first at the regional BETA Club Convention in 8th Grade. I 've won the first two poetry slams at Forest Hills High School. I have been awarded Academic Excellence for the Forest Hills cluster all four years of high school and was presented with Academic Exellence for individual subjects including government, history, engineering, and english. My softball team took first place regionally when I was in middle school. Lastly, I am at the top of my graduating class. The oldest farm-house in the area is Joyce Farmhouse in Valerie Crescent, near Seven Hills. It was built in 1804 by William Joyce, destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1806, and used as an inn between 1811 and 1826. Joyce had received his 30 acre grant in about 1794.

The Sherman family first came to the New World in 1634, settling in Boston, Massachusetts. Several family members achieved notorial prominence; including Roger Sherman, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Daniel Sherman, who sat in the Connecticut General Assembly for 30 years. In addition, Sherman’s father became a state Supreme Court Judge in Ohio. William T. Sherman was once thrown from a horse as a young child and was not expected to live. In 1829, things would once again take a turn for the worse with the Sherman Family.

History is an important thing to hold on to. It helps to gain an understanding not only of the past, but also of the present. The people who lived through the important turning points in North American history helped to shape what North America is today. History comprises not just the Jeffersons or the Lincolns, but it also comprises the Van Camps, Lyons, and Lanes. People need to remember the major and minor players in history. Researching one’s family history would be a perfect way to start exploring the makeup of the past and providing for the future.
One of the spots is Tampa, Florida and the other spot is Williamsburg, Virginia. This makes travel for the Northern states long and sometimes inconvenient. I was lucky that Busch Gardens is closer to Maryland and I didn’t have to travel too far.
In the immediate area I had the Papworth kids and Trey Vars to pal around with. However, by 1964 I had branched out and was routinely spending my days with Pieter Bergen and Rhea Inglehart, or the Thomas kids water skiing. I found Rhea most attractive, and although we never became an item, we did become good friends. Rhea and Pieter resided a few miles away near Lake of the Isles while the Thomas family were another mile or two further downriver on Tar Island across from Grenadier Island. Both of those islands were in Canada. As it turned out, I later married Rhea’s cousin whose family had a summer cottage on Grenadier Island.
On stage, I anticipated third place, but was once again stunned when I placed second. This whole experience was life changing. Working for the National FFA Convention, I developed a work ethic to stick to something, and to do my best, even if it seems impossible. I also gained communication skills, and the ability to work outside my comfort zone. Even now it is hard for me to interact with others, but this accomplishment taught me that I can do hard things and I can communicate effectively. I learned how to perform research and express my findings. This experience was also very valuable for it directed me to my career path. It opened up doors as to my abilities, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams without fear. It taught me that failures happen, but enduring effort will turn failure into success. In my interviews, I learned that complete honesty is far better than false cover-ups. I became the person I am now because I was blessed with the experience. This project for some may be seen as a great award, but for me it's an invaluable occurrence which had more life skills and experience than a piece of paper can ever
Throughout my life I have heard a wide range of stories from my parents. When putting this assignment together I have put these stories into account. Randall Bass, educator of English at Georgetown University, concurs that stories shape individuals ' personalities. Bass expresses that, "People infer their feeling of personality from their way of life, and societies are frameworks of conviction that decide how individuals experience their lives" (Bass 1). Social stories about family history, religion, nationality, and legacy impact individuals ' conduct and convictions. Personalities of diverse individuals originate from their societies. Narrating starts at home. Stories associate individuals to their frameworks of convictions. They shape individuals ' lives by giving them a model of how to live. Individuals get their most punctual learning from distinctive stories. (Bass)
One place I would absolutely love to see again is Washington D.C. I went there once with my parents and my brother. On the way to Washington D.C. we had stopped at Georgia and North Carolina and stayed at each place for a few days. When we went, we stayed at my dad’s cousin’s house. Since my dad’s cousin lived in Washington D.C. we didn’t have to drive everywhere, so we just walked. So, while we were staying in D.C., we saw a lot of different sights. For example, we saw Lincoln’s Memorial, Washington’s Memorial, and even saw the White House. While we were there we also checked out a bunch of historical museums.
The Family Tree My family story took place in the middle of the seventeenth century, when Mexico was still part of Texas, in a town now known as Kerrville. This land has been in my family for centuries and still remains in our hands. There under the hills of my ancestors, around a camp fire surrounded by my tios, tias, and primos, my grandfather Guadalupe Morales would lead us into a world that we could see with our heart and feel like we did the heat of that fire. This was the same story passed down from generation to generation through depressions and wars about slavery and strength, faith, and perseverance. It was a story of victory and family.
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer to self-discovery.
The place that I visited was New York City over the summer about three years ago. My mom and I stayed with my aunt who lives in Poughkeepsie, which is about thirty minutes outside of New York City. Poughkeepsie is a small town that you find outside of a big city, it was a small family owned shops that consisted of knick knacks and second-hand stores. My mom and I got in on a late Friday night so we didn 't go out to see the town and instead headed to bed.
