Recommended: Definition of a hero
According to the Oxford Dictionary (2003), hero is defined as “person admired for bravery or other good qualities.” People usually refer heroes to well-known individuals that have particular features and outstanding achievements that distinguish them from ordinary people. In my case, my hero is not someone who is renowned in the world, but is significant to me personally. Moreover, she is someone who influences me the most. My mother is my hero.
My mother was born in a small city named Tanjung Balai in North Sumatera. She is the second youngest of her ten siblings. She went to a primary school in Tanjung Balai and later went to Penang to continue her secondary and high school. She told me that at first she was not good in her studies because her school in Penang uses Chinese language as the primary language and she had never learned the language. As a result, her teachers did not like her. However, there was one thing that made her stood out, which was she won a piano competition against the school’s top pianist. That top pianist was also the smartest in her class. Many people were astonished that my mom was able to defeat that top pianist. People then recognized her as a great piano player. After her high school graduation, she did not continue her studies in university because she wanted to work and earn money. Her first profession was a secretary at a music company. At the same time, she also had a part-time job as an organ teacher. In 1994, she married my father and gave birth to me in 1995.
There are plenty of reasons why I choose my mother as my hero. She only has me as her child, and because my father travels often, I have a strong bond with her. From the moment I was born until today, she has never stopped taking care of ...

...happened during that worst riot day, but my mom told me that she had great difficulties in contacting my dad and it made her worry. Furthermore, she had problems in getting food for her and for me. My mom told me that I was still small so I need different kinds of nutrients. But what made my mom worry the most is the fact that we are Chinese, and she was afraid that people would come to our neighborhood and barged in to other people’s houses. Later that night, my dad returned home safely, and assured my mom that nothing had happened to him. Fortunately, people did not reach our area and we were all save.
In conclusion, my mom is a wonderful mom and I want to be like her when I become a mother. I hope that she can live a long and healthy life, so that after I graduate from the university and get a good job, I can repay her kindness and be a person she wants me to be.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.

A hero is someone you look up to, someone who has done something to inspire you, someone who is your role model. In our society, there are many different types of heroes—family, friends, teachers, firefighters, and police officers to name a few. But a hero that stands out to me is a U.S. soldier. Soldiers risk their lives every day just so we can have our freedom.
Hero-a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal. That is the official definition stated in the Webster dictionary. A person who qualifies to be a hero by this definition would be Derek Jeter.
The first reason why my mother has shaped me into the person that I am today is because my mother wants me to become a good woman. My mom teaches me to be a responsible young woman. For example, my mom asks me to do chores around the house for her. This has impacted me because my
They lived happily and my mother, Naheed Sultana, was born on August 13, 1970. A couple of years later, her 3 brothers, Habib, Qamrul, and Jafrul Ahsan were born. My mother lived with her siblings, parents, uncles, and grandmother (my grandma’s mother). My mother was a very talented child, along with my uncles. They always placed in the top 2 in their class, and they were also talented in other activities such as singing, drawing, and playing sports. My uncles and my mother, each received at least one award for all 3 of these categories. Everyone thought that my mother’s family was so perfect because they were well educated and were also doing well in school. It was hard for my uncles and mother to live without a father sometimes, though. My grandfather would frequently have move to different cities in Bangladesh for his job as a civil engineer. My grandmother decided to just settle down in Dhaka with her ...
In 1859 Henry Ward Beecher said, "the mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom." I believe that statement because of experiences I’ve had with my own mother. I have learned more about life from her than from my 15 years of schooling. Over the last 20 years my mother has taught me many valuable lessons just by being a living example of compassion, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She is an angel that has protected and carried me throughout life.
When I was a young girl, at the age that other children dreamed of being princesses or astronauts, I always had one goal in my mind: I wanted to be just like my mother. As cliché as it is, she has always, always inspired me and pushed me to be a better, stronger person. Throughout the years, she has showed me what it means to be independent, to be fiercely ambitious and never let anything stand between me and my dreams, and today more than ever I appreciate her steadfastness in building her own future while guiding my younger brother and me on the path to achieving our own greatness. My mom, much like me at this age, had absolutely no idea what she wanted to do with her life.
Everyone has that one person that they give their utmost respect to because of the way they have impacted their life. Well, I give all my respect to my mother because of the not only impact, but the power this woman has had in my life since I was born. My mother has been here to uplift me when skies were grey for me, kept my head on straight when I felt like giving up in life, and she has made sure I was straight and had everything I needed even when she did not have a dollar to spend on herself. All because of my mother I had the knowledge on how to do right to become successful, I am in school, and I have always been on the right path, and lastly, I have always had a stable place to be, therefore I was never in the streets, or wondering where I would be sleeping. Growing up as a little girl, my mother has been the one to make sure my well- being was fine, thus making sure I was straight even when she was not.
When I needed to talk, she listened. When I was ill, she healed me. When I was hungry, she fed me. This frail woman whom I call my mom was a superwoman while I was growing up. With wisdom, she guided; with tenderness, she spoke; and with love, she raised me. Although we were very poor, my mother made it a point always to give me a present on my birthday.
