My language is the way I choose to express myself. Though I sometimes feel I cannot express myself to certain people as I do to others. When it comes to language I have certain ways of speaking depending on whom I am speaking to. I have a different way of talking to my mother than I do my father and I have a specific way of talking to them as a pair. My mind also has a different way of speaking to them than my mouth. My language alters between the people I mainly communicate with. Language allows me to speak anyway I please. It allows me to express my feelings in different ways to different people. Language is unique to each individual allowing them to express feelings in different ways to different people. My mother and I have a very weird relationship. I am not super close to her, but I do not despise her either. She is the drama queen of the family whereas I enjoy keeping some things to myself. Every day my mom asks me, “How was school?”, and every day I answer, “Good”. Every once in a while I have to find a completely different way to speak to my parents as a whole. When it comes to family arguments I have to be very careful on the language I use. Most family arguments have to do with my mother and I. Usually because of my “attitude”. Most times the argument consist of her being irrational: “Hannah, you are such a slob. Clean your room more often, get everything off the floor. I just cannot believe you.” I usually respond with, “Yeah mom I will do that after I finish writing 3 essays and doing essential questions and doing everything else that is more important to me than cleaning my room.” She then proceeds to yell at me about my terrible attitude. I go to my room to do my homework and am later called out to the living room to discuss my “terrible”

In life, people come across challenging obstacles’ when trying to achieve their goals. College, like that of life, has a variety of challenges that appear in a student’s pathway to their goals. For most college students that are just starting out in the basic classes, such as Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s English 101, problems can arise due to classes being much harder than the prior high school classes the students are used to. Mrs. Fox-Angerer’s class is hard because it has an online portion, it creates stress, and it is a required class.
The purpose of this assignment is to explain the impact of English language learners in the classroom. As a foreign student, English language learner in the United States faces multiple challenges for achieving academic success. To successfully complete a task, they need to master both English as a language and how it is used in core content classes especially when they are an adult. Verbal and written language is how people communicate with each other and encourage thoughts, achieve goals, and build relationships. Speaking a single, or multiple languages, and growing up in different setting can seriously alter the way that people speak the same language. This can either encourage diverse communication or make communication all but impossible. For the most part I speak English fluently, it is the only full language that I can speak and I developed this language growing up in a small farm town in the middle of New Jersey.
What really is a language and how does it affect the world around us? Language is just a structure of words put together to communicate with one another. When one speaks all they are doing is causing their vocal cords to vibrate to produce different sound waves. This sounds so simple, but there are thousands of languages spoken throughout the world and each language is usually connected to a certain place. When someone travels to a different place where a language is foreign to them it can be life-changing as in The Naked Eye. Language constricts our thoughts and identities with the world around us. I’m arguing that language is as much of a necessity in our world as food or water, it’s the basis on how we get through each and every day.
Language Development When it comes to the effects of gender on language development, one of the most frequently asked questions is: do males and females develop language differently? Studies have shown both similarities and differences between male and female language development. Apel and Masterson (2001) explain that both genders acquire language skills along the same timeline and that both become active, engaging conversationalists. Although research has shown both similarities and differences in language development, pertaining to gender, a major influencing factor has come from parents. Observations have shown that during the different stages of language development, parents tend to use different types of language with males than with females, which continually affect an individual throughout his or her entire life.
From a very young age I knew that I was going to move out of my hometown Guadalajara, Jalisco for the rest of my life, after all, my parents had given me a very unique opportunity, a U.S. nationality. My goal was to finish high school in the U.S. and one day enroll in an American college, however, my parents were not willing to let a 17 year old girl move thousand of miles away on her own, with only the support of her older sister, that lived in Washington State. My mother was the one in opposition to this idea the most, every time I mentioned even the smallest comment about me moving away, she would instantly change topics, turn the volume up, or just say she didn’t want to talk about it, I would always insist, until she was willing to hear
Being bilingual always made my life differ as if I lived two lives, speaking Spanish at home and English everywhere outside of home. On the daily basis at my house, my family speaks Spanish. When we communicate we speak very fast, at times we can not even understand one another. After this occurs we all burst out in laughter super loud, no boundaries are enforced in our lexicon. The enforcement changes when entering a different discourse community.
My mother tends to think with her emotions too much as appose to myself. I learned our communication and understanding of each others view points needs to improve for the future if we ever find ourselves in similar situations. It also prepared me for when my mother and I have to deal with relatives passing away. I can for certain say that when that day comes, I will be the stronger one. As chaotic as this situation is, one thing I could say we are doing correctly is managing our dog equally. Despite our issues with communicating, my mother and I did come to some kind of understanding and agreement. My mother feels like she deals with our dogs issues far too much and I agreed with her. We both came to an agreement that I will take some of those responsibilities and leave her with less stress and perhaps her viewpoints on what is best for Russell may change. A major component that could and still be tremendously improved on is the way we communicate. My mother is a very impulsive person who acts on her emotions all the time. I 'm far more less emotional and incredibly level headed and logical when It comes to tough situations and because of our contrasting ways of dealing with issues, we don 't always see eye to eye. Language is a method in which individuals communicate in order to get their opinion across to the listening party. Language is the tool which ideas can be conveyed in various ways. Typically, language is referred to verbal communication, however, it ranges to all methods of communication i.e. sign language.
Language is a medium of communication and a carrier of culture because all that people know about their origin is communicated to them using language. In most cases mother tongues are suitable in expressing ones way of life. The native language is the best in expressing basic societal affairs. Language is the key medium of communication and it should be used in its simplest form because the simpler the language the easier the communication (Diyanni 633-639).
Everyone is a part of a community. Most people are a part of multiple communities. A community is a group of people that have a commonality. Sometimes it is based on where you live, hobbies, goals, etc. I believe that communities are created unconsciously and are connected to someone’s identity, especially when a person is considered a part of multiple communities. Sometimes, a person may connect very well with their community. Sometimes, a person may feel very distant from their community. In the movie, “English Vinglish”, the main character, Sashi, shows examples on how communities are created through commonalities, and the acculturation theory. To start with, I do not want to narrowly define language as merely verbal communication. Language is far broader than that. In a few seconds a person walking past you on the street could tell you more about themselves with a sincere smile than they could with a few rushed words. Language encompasses all aspects of communication that enhance the level of our interaction. The tone in our voice demonstrating our feelings on a topic or our body language indicating our level of interest are just as important in interaction as verbally communicating content. There for I define language as any act that is involved in the interaction between two or more people.
Language is the basis of human communication. It is a cultural and social interaction, and the way language is used is influenced by the circumstances in which it takes place (Emmitt, 2010, p. 49; Green, 2006, p. 2). Children become aware that there are different types of language, including languages used at home, at childcare and at school, as they observe and participate in various language situations (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p. 39). Some of these languages may be unfamiliar, and children will need to learn the different roles and uses of language. The different roles of language in a child’s life are, therefore, part of their growing understanding of how to behave in society and in a particular context. As they experience different types and uses of language, children develop an understanding of how to use language appropriately for any given situation.
