I want to leave my footprint in as many places and touch as many souls as possible. My life is nothing if I do not help others. By seventeen I have traveled to over thirty countries to experience, learn, and give. My family and I moved to Bangkok, Thailand when I was six years old and that sparked my passion for service and exploration. On the weekends we volunteered at orphanages to work and play with children who suffer from physical and mental disabilities. At such a young age I discovered the difference I could make in another persons life by doing the simplest things. The children we worked with were so neglected that if you would touch them they would light up with happiness. I knew my life needed to be devoted to helping others. When …show more content…
I took the hardest classes available from my freshmen year on. I loved the challenge and it helped me grow as a student. My senior year I decided not to take an elective so I could take an extra science class. I take both my schools Physics and College Chemistry course along with University of Washington Pre-Calculus. After school I joined my schools Science and STEM clubs. My junior year the two clubs merged I became the Vice President. At our meetings we would discuss science news and conduct experiments. Currently we are working to build a flash light which runs on the heat of ones hand. I also took my schools engineering class. I was able to become very familiar with the program Solid Works. I constructed multiple items; one which I am most proud of is a hand. I used the dimensions of my fingers and palm to created it on the software. It had 46 individual parts. I was able to print out pieces to make sure the dimensions worked and it was able to …show more content…
Vincent De Paul Club, KOOCS club, and volunteering in my own time. I am the Vice President of my schools St. Vincent De Paul Club. In the club we work to promote service and solidarity through our school. We do regular food drives and volunteer at the St. Vincent De Paul thrift store. We conduct many events and retreats throughout the year. One which I heavily help to plan is our Night Out for the Homeless. One night every year members of the club and others who wish to participate sleep outside in February. We only have tarps to protect us from the rain and yoga mats to cushion us from the pavement. The experience enlightens us to the real life struggles homeless people go through. With KOOCS, I go and make food then serve it to the homeless. I also volunteer with Seattle Union Gospel Mission where we go out at night and give vital materials to homeless people are Seattle. We provide food, blankets, socks, clothes, hygiene items, and whatever else we can provide. I know what I want to do with my life which is travel and serve. I became aware of that when I was very young through my adventures around the world. I have set myself up for success by challenging myself academically and joining clubs which allow me to live out my passion and gain useful
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
I consider myself a driven, honest, hardworking, compassionate, and dedicated individual. I love to learn, to work, to improve, and most of all to help others. My life goal is to positively impact the lives of others and furthermore the community. While I can not predict how exactly I will do this I start by treating others well, helping out where help is needed, and dedicating myself to my education where I will expand my knowledge and acquire new skills.
The ecological footprint is a mathematical tool that was developed by Doctor Mathis Wackernagel and Professor William Rees in 1992 to calculate how many hectares of land or acres of land are required to support one human being. Humans use up the planets’ natural resources to survive on a daily basis. These resources include fish, forests, land, water, and other agricultural products. In an aspect, we can think of humans as parasites to the planet Earth because it is our host and we need its resources to survive. Within the means of the ecological footprint, we want to look closely as the production of Earth’s resources, against the consumption rate of the human race. We can think of the ecological foot print analysis as an approach to a global
I am dedicated to helping out our community and school, because it warms my heart and soul. Seneca said in about 40 to 60 A.D. that you should “be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favors you have received.” In other words you should not boast about the numerous projects you have accomplished and how much physical work you executed, but rather pride yourself on how you helped people in community and school, and how you have affected their lives with positive means. I feel life is joyous and it should be the feeling everyone illustrates, and this is exactly what keeps me functioning in the stressful world today. I find comfort in helping others to make their lives a little more like heaven and this comfort motivates me to perform copious service projects to the best of my capability whenever I find the time. Time is fair to the rich, the poor, and to every race, because time is equal and gives everyone 24 hours daily to accomplish their required tasks. Because time is so valuable and I am occupied by difficult advanced placement and honor classes and juggle school, clubs, sports, and friends, I joined Key Club, a high school division of the adult service club, Kiwanis. Key Club opened new doors to make every extra minute count towards helping others.
When I was younger my grandfather would take me to a kitchen where I would help put together bags of food and other necessities for homeless people in the area. My grandmother worked at a nursing home so I would come up and entertain the people who didn’t get many visitors, and assist them to the best of my abilities. Helping those people every other week was so much fun, and I have always just loved helping out people in any way possible. I even helped from home, by helping my mom with bake sales that the profit made would go to various charities. I am not in StuCo, but I usually help them pack food for families in need through “Got Your
Human Footprint was a documentary about how much average Americans will consume throughout their lives. It covered everything from the diapers a child will wear to the amount of houses and cars a person will own in their lifetime. It gave the average amount consumed by each American in their lifetime, meaning some will use more of one thing, while others will use less. Certain items such as the amount of appliances and the types of food we eat were a great example of something that people probably did not realize had a huge effect on the world. While this gave great information about how much Americans really consume, it did little to address these problems. In fact, it seemed at times that they were not problems at all. The documentarian assumed that people watching would think consumption was a problem, but I am not sure that is the case with a majority of people. Another problem was the amount of time they wasted panning over the inflated amount of items consumed. Finally, they failed to challenge the viewer to change their lifestyle in even the most generically simple ways, such as using less when the opportunity comes.
Throughout my life, I had continually believed that once I graduated college, I would engage in an action filled career. I wanted to be a police officer, a firefighter or even an undercover FBI agent. I had planned on studying criminal justice, and I took numerous high school classes based on it. Nevertheless, my plan transformed the summer between my junior and senior years. It was my grandma that influenced me to transform my criminal justice plan into a nursing plan. For most of my life, I may not have acknowledged exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I did know that I sought to help people.
I don’t know what I plan on doing with my life, so I guess I just want my legacy to be that I’m a good person, and that I helped people. I want to be remembered as someone who accomplished things, or even just something. I want to be someone with a life worth living.
I see my life as a series of experiences that build upon one another and, through my hard work and determination, lead to overall long and short term goals that I have set for myself. There are thousands upon thousands of things that affect my life both directly and indirectly all of which have varying degrees of influence on me. Three areas of my life that most certainly have had a profound impact on me are scholarship, spiritual formation, and service. These three areas have affected me positively, and have motivated me to pursue higher levels of education, and have challenged me to set my lifetime goals higher. Though I'm not exactly sure where I will end up in life, I know that if I let my academics, spirituality, and service guide me, I will end up somewhere that I want to be.
Throughout the fall semester I did community service at a thrift shop and soup kitchen in Lawrence. There I experienced things I have never encountered before in my life. These experiences have taught me a lot, and have truly made me look at America's underprivileged, in a new light.
There is no hesitation when it comes to whether humans impact the global environment. However, it is questioned in whether human’s ecological footprint is either negatively or positively impacting. In clear perspective, humans share from both sides and their ecological footprint is noted towards whether it will benefit or harm the environment around them. Topics such as overpopulation, pollution, biomagnification, and deforestation are all human impacted and can harm the environment, but some include benefits into helping the world around us with solutions to their problems.
During the days we flew, we had a pattern. The airplane held a little over 50 gallons of gas and burned roughly 10 gallons per hour. When we filed flight plans, we structured our schedule and stops correspondingly. This accorded us four hours of flying time with the expectation that when we landed to re-fuel we would still have 10 gallons to spare. Throughout the trip, we consistently strove to maintain the 10 gallon/1 hour reserve to give us a margin of safety. We fell into a routine, making for exceedingly comfortable days. We each had different tasks and trusted one another to perform them without supervision or criticism. I genuinely enjoyed knowing we had a plan and executing it regularly. It was an arrangement which made it easier
Every day the world around us is changing ever so slightly in many different ways. Humans can affect the environment through our day to day lifestyle without even noticing the change. An ecological footprint is a measurement of how much a person uses the environment around them to live their life. This given measurement can help one to see their impact on the earth. It is an important tool to understand what actually a human does to change the habitat near them. My ecological footprint results gave me a perspective of how my daily life can impact the world I live in, as well as, how I as an individual can change my actions to make less waste on earth. It is also useful for each person to know their own ecological footprint since no one live
Apple is changing their environment, throughout their entire organization, by measuring their carbon footprint on the environment. Apple is the first company in the industry to reduce their footprint by showing the impact their product line is having on the consumers’ use. They will continue to measure and identify areas that can make the most significant impact for reductions. Apple is in accordance with the regulations and restrictions that government agencies have put in place for the components used in the manufacturing of their products. Apple is one of the first to measure their carbon footprints, which allows them to be a front runner for the industry and to change their components for helping to promote their new products through their brand for customers to be able to purchase all of their product lines. This allows the industry to follow suit and to do the same for their products.
As a child of parents both employed in the non-profit world, I have literally spent my entire life exposed to a volunteering way of life--helping others struggling in various way, dealing with minor tragedy, social injustice or simply the need to make life better in one way or another. Some of my earliest memories involve remodeling a house for the Wig Bank, helping set tables for fundraiser dinner parties, or selling raffle tickets. More recently, I have been the one donating my photography services to raise money for the free clinic, organizing a clothes drive for the Women’ Shelter, or simply writing my own check for a special cause.
