I have been a Christian my whole life; when the church doors were open, I was there, and I enjoyed being there; it was like home away from home. Since I was young, I always wondered what God had in store for my life. There was nothing I was amazing at, no act in which I really excelled, and there were things I enjoyed and did well, but nothing that made me special. I remember praying as an eight-year-old, asking God to show me what he had in store for my life. It was not until I was seventeen that I would find out.
On December 27, 2013 I went on my first international mission trip to Lesotho South Africa. I came back in love with Lesotho; nevertheless I never considered international missions as a vocation. In the summer of 2014, I went to summer camp and felt the call to missions; however, I muffled it down, not because I did not feel the importance in it, but because of my family. I have been homeschooled most my life, and my mother is very ill. Then in the fall of that same year I felt the call again, and I could not ignore it this time. Being called to international missions; I wanted to bring something to (1) help with people besides bringing the gospel and (2) I wanted a way to get access to more people. I thought about nursing, but I have no passion for science;

A new student Kali comes to her classroom who seems to need an older example and some wisdom, so Anna takes her under her wing and guides and helps her along. Their friendship goes too far and Anna’s professional and home life are threatened by this new
Her struggles are of a flower trying to blossom in a pile of garbage. As a young girl, Anne’s first “teacher” was her very own mother. Anne was a curious little girl. With her curious ways and always wanting to find out what is happening around her, her mother wouldn’t give her any information. Her mother mostly told her to keep quiet and act like she doesn’t know what is happening. Besides
... stresses, changes, and issues that typical adolescents have to deal with. She still had to figure out what her plans were for her future, which ended up changing due to the accident; she still had relationships that developed or ended, and she had to figure out how to deal with those stressors; she still had to go through the process of finding out who she was and what her identity meant like other adolescents her age; and she had to deal with the transition from being a typical teenager to an emerging adult. The entire novel centers on these changes and how Anna reacts to the many twists that come up in her life, and because of this, the novel shows what it is like to live through the adolescent stage of life.
...family that she grew up in was such a negative environment. It is very possible that she will grow up to be an art teacher. One might think this because she looked up to her art teacher so much and admired her; Ellen’s mind is full of creativity and ideas. When Ellen’s school found out that her dad was abusive to her they put her up at her art teacher’s house. Ellen says “I came a long way to get here but when you think about it really hard you will see that old Starletta came even farther… And all this time I thought I had the hardest row to hoe” Like Ellen did, it is important for everyone to look back into their life and see what they have learned. Doing so cannot change ones past but only add to their future. Ellen will always carry the horrors of her childhood with her but by using all of her assets that she gained throughout the book her future can be enriched.
career and future were ripped away from her. The themes build anger in the reader as they are
In the end, God guided me to APU because He wanted me to learn about Christianity and its purpose. I was fearful at first because I did not know much about God or faith. Several times, I was asked by several APU staff and students which church I attended, but in reality I had never been to church except the one time I had a piano recital. I became curious when I went to my very first chapel. I did not understand why Christians were so strong-willed and crazed about God. When I looked around me, people had their hands in the air with their arms reaching out. I did not understand how they could praise God, someone who cannot be seen with the naked eye, with so much love. Two weeks passed, and I still did not quite understand the Christian religion and its purpose. I remember clearly that one of the apex meetings that I had with my mentor, Phoebe, completely altered my understanding of the Christian religion. She told me the story of Jesus Christ, which I wish someone had taught me earlier. She said that God created all of us humans, but
The point of view she expressed through out the whole text, was her own. She was able to keep readers insight of the psychoanalytic theory the story has. The actions the protagonist had in the story showed us how it affected her adult self, and how the issue developed a rebel over time. Even after years from when the recurring events took place, her actions as a child had an effect on both mother and daughter. This theory gives readers the idea that things that happen to people during childhood can contribute to the way they later function as
My family taught me about Jesus at a young age, so I always knew I wanted to have a close relationship with him. Knowing that God is going to have my back no matter what was the best feeling to me. He will never leave a person or turn his back on them. The fact that the Bible guides people is one of the amazing things to me because one scripture can change a person whole life. My discourse community teaches a person about faith, love, and everything a person will ever need in life. Jesus encourages people, and supports people when they fail. Being a Christian motivates me and gives me a meaning of life. Being saved is easy, but the hard part is following his guidelines. He knows people are going to make a lot of mistakes in life, but the fact that he doesn’t judge them is amazing. Accepting Christ means a person has escaped that judgment and therefore they will have external life. Being a part of this discourse community has brought me to a new place in life, and for that I am
Throughout the story there are several aspects of the Protagonist’s character that play a major role in the shaping of her future. During her childhood she often demonstrates a sense of fear when she is sent to her bedroom. “We were afraid of the inside, the room were we slept (pg. 549).” She is intimidated by her personal space because she does not have control over it. Later, she gains control by adding lace to her side of the room; symbolically adding personality to herself and slipping into womanhood. When she felt uncomfortable she exercised her imagination, to psychologically regain control over the confusion in her life. Her subconscious effort to control confusing times were carried on to her later years as she was constantly put in difficult situations, which helped her to adjust quickly to change during adulthood. The dreams she created changed when she began to place emphasis on her appearance-that which she could control, other than past dreams of heroism that seemed so distant from reality. The Protagonist filled her childhood with much pride and maintained a consistent focused upon the activities that filled her childhood. She relished working at the side of her father, taking immense pride in every aspect of her assigned duties. She proclaimed, “I worked willingly under his eyes, and with a feeling of pride (pg. 551)” Once after her father introduced her to a feed sales man as “my new hired man (pg. 551),” the Protagonist was flooded with pride as she “turned away and raked furiously, red in the face with pleasure (pg. 551).” In her later years her pride helped her to assemble strong self-confidence she used in her years of growing. Passion and depth were characteristics that impacted her future as a woman. Her passion and depth was revealed early on in the story ...
If someone was to ask me two years ago what I wanted to be I would have greeted them with silence. Before I was a very anti-social person and I didn’t really like speaking much in front of a public, audience, or even my small group of friends. I was the type of girl who preferred staying home in the weekends and watch Netflix instead of going out. But everything changed when I went on a missionary trip with my church to Mexicali. The church I attend has a group of volunteers who go every 2-3 months on the weekends to Mexicali. In these trips we distribute clothes, food, essentials, toys, and candies for all the kids and people in Mexico that live in poverty. Many people who live there live in harsh conditions and are struggling to provide a home for their families. My first trip was a life changing experience because it changed the person who I was. I became an active and outgoing person. I became to appreciate and value the possessions I have at home. Every time I see the kids at Mexicali content when they receive a pair of shoes or a piece sandwich it makes me pleased of myself because I’m able to help them with what I can. Throughout these series of trips I discover my passion and how I have a soft spot for kids. Since Mexicali and where I live have a very large driving distance and I can’t go every day I also volunteer to help kids and adults around my community also. I have help
In a piece of literature known as “The Lesson” by Bambara, Miss. Moore, a teacher, who wants to give back to her neighborhood and help educated underprivileged children, ends up succeeding by teaching the uneducated children some very valuable life lessons, while also having some fun. The narrator of this story is one of the young children, who is named Sylvia. She is portrayed as the typical teenager who is struggling to understand growing up. Including Sylvia, Miss. In “MLHS,” the writer’s living condition when she is creating her first novel is tough. She has to steal the food from the children in order to live since she only “live[s] for writing.” Also, in “Anita’s Dance,” Anita grows up in a family that she can't feel any love or warmth as her lazy mother always orders her child to do the housework instead of being a loving mother. Her university boyfriend demands her to give up her scholarship in order to achieve his academic goal. The people that Anita makes her become selfish as well and this is the way for her to protect herself.
I feel as if God has called me to nursing, and that I should give it nothing less than one hundred percent. This attitude will be combined with my experience, and future experience, with missions and travel. Such events in my life give me experience with culture and other ways of life and opposing views. This makes me flexible and adaptable, which is crucial in a high stress environment like the nursing field. Having understanding makes me willing to meet others where they are at, I do not need them to validate my beliefs. Rather, my beliefs should compel me to have love, compassion and value for others wellbeing. I truly believe if one can obtain all of these things, he or she can be at the top of their
When she finally is faced with speaking in front of the courtroom, she reveals what she is afraid of saying, the greatest leap of faith that she has had to make. She manages to squeak out the one word she fears saying most, “Kate (378).” It was her sister, Kate, that convinced Anna to file the lawsuit. By saying this and letting out the truth, Anna demonstrates an extreme amount of maturity that would not have come from her near the beginning of the story. By the end of the story, Anna finally takes control and fully utilizes the new strength she obtained along the course of the book.
During my seventh grade year, my church went to a youth rally at a local church on weekend. Because of this rally and the message it sent, I realized and wanted to give my life to Jesus through baptism. It was awesome, I got home as a young teenager and actually talked to my mom about what it really means to be a Christian and to pick up your cross and follow him. So that very next weekend, my dad baptized me in front of the whole church on Sunday morning. It was an awesome feeling knowing that because of Jesus’ grace and mercy, I will be with him one day and spend eternity with him. Although I was on top of the world at this point, I still didn’t know fully what I had gotten into. So the next few years, I live the typical Christian life. I was trying to be the perfect person by doing the right stuff, I would try not to cuss, I would try to wear as many WWJD bracelets as I could so that I wouldn’t have to talk to them about Christ and they could just see it on my wrist, I would not join in on conversations with my friends that I knew were not right, I was just living life on cruise control.
