In the 2012-2013 school year, 14,048 U.S. high schools fielded teams to play 11-man per side American tackle football and still growing in the United States, and I was apart of that statistic. I was a freshman going into highschool for the first time, everything was new to me except one thing “Football”. Football is my favorite sport, there was nothing like it. I played almost every sport but eventually quit everything else because I fell in love with the atmosphere of football and played every year since I was six years old. I couldn 't wait to finally play in high school and get to play on the “G” (Which was the football stadium). I remember as it was yesterday in these exact words my dad said to me “Son high school ball is a whole different I remember the practice perfectly everyone came to the field after the school bell rang and began to suit up we went through our normal stretches and then broke into groups for drills from then it was all slow motion. Our coach thought it would be a good idea to run the drill “Oklahoma”, which is illegal now but then it wasn 't. The drill composed of six players; a linebacker, two defencive linemen, two offensive linemen, and a running back. The object of the drill is for the offensive linemen to create a gap where the running back can run through and not get tackled, and everyone rotated positions.it was all slow motion as i stood in line. I was the third one to run the ball and every time the whistle blew one by one my teammates ran through their gaps. Finally, it was my turn I tucked the football and got ready to After we arrived at the hospital I was wheeled into the ER, and met up with my parents. They made us wait until I could get x-rays to see what 's wrong, but after being sedated with pain killers I couldn 't remember anything after the first 20 min of being in the hospital. After I arrived home, I had a brace forcing me to keep my leg straight so I don 't injure my knee further. From there on I went through mandatory physical therapy and healing stretches for six months eventually returning to football and finishing the rest of high school playing football. Even tho its been awhile since i was injured my knee will never be 100% as it once was, it still has problems at times but live through it. Having an injury similar to mine can really affect someone for the rest of their lives and make them feel helpless as i did after being lifted into the ambulance I truly thought i wasn 't going to play football again which to me was the worst feeling in the world. Even after what happened i take it as a learning experience by understanding the importance of being safe in sports especially in contact sports such as football. Learning the techniques to tackling can make all the difference in the world from crushing someones dreams and fueling
