My Experience Of Moving To The US

There are different events that can shape the lives of people; some can be good and others can be bad. I, for example, have experienced an event that has impacted my life, shaping me into the person I am today. This meaningful event was when I first moved to this country. People never give thought to the little events that can change your life in a second. I never realized how important it was for me to move here until I reflect on every obstacle that made it hard for me to become who I am. I believe that I am the person I am now due to this impactful event of moving to the United States. Moving here has taught me many different things; it taught me how to speak a foreign language. Not only learning another language, but it also showed me how to always be myself, and to stand up for what I believe in. Here I learned that learning a new language is the escavation of a whole new culture. I remember going to Kindergarten for the first time and not being able to read, write, speak, or understand English; I remember my heart skipping arround on the first day of school. At first I struggled a lot because I did not even know how to tell my teacher that I wanted to go to the restroom; English became the fog in my mind and it was not clear to see. It became a little easier after a few months because I was learning quickly to speak and understand English without even realizing it. My mom always reminds me, “Emily, do you remember that the very first word you came home saying was ‘butterfly’?”. I do remember that the word “butterfly” stuck to my head because I loved the insect.
