My experience in church has always been multicultural, and I want to continue doing ministry in that context. Growing up in a diverse Hispanic church has rooted in me a passion for culture and a love for the church. The exposure to different cultures gave me an awareness of those who are the minority and the marginalized. Witnessing their struggles, hardships and achievements drove my desire to be further educated in working for and serving my fellow Latinos and other ethnic groups. I am also committed to learn how I can best serve these groups in mission and ministry. I believe CCM and BRS are tools that can equip and help me accomplish this. I currently serve as a worship leader for my church, La Viña Covenant. However, I aspire to be better. …show more content…
I am currently serving my church through singing and playing piano on the worship team. I believe that worship is vital to the growth and maturity of the church. The Word says in Romans 12:1, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” I serve God by offering my body as an instrument to worship Him and lead others to do the same. I have come to learn that leading worship is not simply singing Kumbaya in a circle and everyone goes home happy. It is so much more than that. Worship can be a very uncomfortable experience because it draws people to break out of their shell, insecurity or pain that keeps them bound by chains. To be a catalyst for that kind of experience for people, I had to do more than just learn how to sing and play a song. I had to be real with God, real with myself, and real with everyone else. I had to let go of whatever insecurities or fears I had of singing in front of a large group of people. My goal was not only to effectively play and sing each song, but to sing in a way in which everyone may not just listen, but to draw near to God themselves. If I did not take up the responsibility and invest in the time to lead worship, so many people, including myself, would miss out on the opportunity to be transformed together and made new. This is the generation that is seeing a decline in the church in the U.S. Churches are closing down throughout the United States. Churches are losing its relevance in people’s lives. Serving in worship is how I can help unify the body and restore the church by getting back to the heart of
Growing up in Jamaica, I enjoyed worship. I remembered looking forward to church. We clapped our hands and stomped our feet and made a joyful noise unto the Lord. We didn't have keyboards and drums. We clapped and sounded like timbrels. I remembered when I learned to testify and it helped me and several others to build our confidence. I would sing in the local churches when they have special events. I watched young people being filled with the Holy Ghost and I wanted it so badly that I would pray and ask God to give it to me. I remembered watching my mother and my sister speak in tongues and I so wanted to do it.
...in Islam singing never been a part of a ritual practice. That church was different than any other worshiping places I have visited before. I was very happy after this experience, because they still send me emails, mails, and thank you cards every Sunday. Before I leave they gave me a copy of New Testament Book and The Story of Jesus to help me in my research. I did not feel that I’m a stranger or a guest; I felt that I am one of the group members and my present is important for them. Obviously , through that experience their goals was knowing God through believing in Christ, grow in faith and spiritual maturity by providing opportunities for spiritual growth through Life Groups, and love and serve others unselfishly as Christ did, by equipping and preparing for service and offering various opportunities to serve within the church and in our community and the world.
I serve to Jesus every day by taking time out my day to help others. When my classmates or friends are struggling with something I try to assist them
The first time I attended the Episcopal Church in my hometown with a girlfriend, I was shocked by the complexity of the melodies the organist played, by the sheer, tuneful competence of the singing. Until then I don’t think I knew it was possible to worship God in cadences and keys actually indicated in a hymnal.
I truly believe this is the place in my life I am being called, equipped, and gifted. I also believe it is where I most naturally fit when it comes to the requirements of the job description. My heart feels drawn towards creating unity in a team of creatives who are passionate about worshipping, creating, and leading people to the foot of the cross in worship. Worship music gives people the opportunity to express their heart to God in words that they may not have even known they needed to sing, but also unites the voice of the entire congregation and orients us together towards God. I don’t think there is a formula of how to lead people into worship, but I am so deeply intrigued by the different ways to lead congregations, and I believe worship is a place that is constantly changing and growing in new expressions and voice to give to the church. One part of this job description that I really appreciated was the correlation it expressed in planning worship sets in correlation with the senior pastor. I have not been in a worship position where I actually got to sit and pray through the worship sets with the senior pastor. In my experience the senior pastor has either told us what he wants and we do it, or he just gives us all the responsibility and does not really care how we lead the time. However, I truly believe communication with the senior pastor about worship can be one of the most edifying planning aspects for a meaningful worship service that leads people into worship, the spoken sermon, and response
...agreed with, some that frustrated, and some that embarrassed me when my personal preferences defied logic or biblical mandate. I would recommend this reading to any who impact church worship (employee or volunteer). Not as a firm guide, but as thought-provoking advice on how corporate worship can impact an ever-changing culture. I think any worship leader would be impacted by Dawn’s questions:
Part three of the book discusses the modern day issues churches face with worship. Chapter sixteen brings to light the issue of compensation for the musicians. The author gives illustrations of both a paid and unpaid music leader. Most churches do not have a luxury of a full time musician. The book brings up an excellent in the way that God structured Israel in the Old Testament. The Levites did not have to paid for anything because there role was to lead the nation spiritually. The other eleven tribes were to provide for the Levites. This would allow the Levites to solely focus on leading the nation. The problem within churches today is that the congregation does not always have faithful tithes and offerings. This puts churches in tight positions forcing them not to be able to pay for full time staff. The Bible and the author both give a good defense in support of more “professional” musicians.
“Human beings are made for worship. Everyone worships someone or something” (Calhoun 2005). The above statement is so true. Some people worship money, themselves, other people or pagan Gods. As for me I worship God the Almighty Father of Heaven and Earth. “True worship of God happens when we put God first in our lives” (Calhoun 2005). Worship isn’t just singing at the beginning of a church service on Sunday. Worship is a daily surrender where we put God first in everything such as our marriage, work life, friendships, family, money, and lifestyle. Worship is where we totally surrender and trust God with everything in our lives.
The best option identified when dealing with patients that are Jehovah Witness is to put all personal beliefs aside and respect their wishes. According to Dyer (2014) the most effective ways for nurses and healthcare providers to deal with religious and spiritual patients in the clinical setting is to communicate, support and tolerate. By providing care in a judgment free manner nurses and healthcare providers can help their patients improve their outcomes. It is important for nurses and healthcare providers to remain positive throughout their interaction with their patients and their family members even if they doesn’t agree with the patient’s decision. This is important because positivity shows warmth and the patient and their family members
...tial ideas and theologies that are absolutely the cornerstone to having a healthy ministry. Ideas like community, grace, love, and forgiveness could all have their own paper written for them individually, but acceptance is absolutely essential to any ministry. To accept someone into your family, just like the father in the story of the prodigal son, is to share all of these values listed above. By accepting them we are showing them grace, love, forgiveness and belonging, that each and everyone one of them so desperately desires. If we as youth pastors can embrace acceptance and also use it genuinely and not as a technique for recruiting, then surely our ministry will grow both in numbers and in depth in the knowledge of the word of God. By doing exactly what God does for us, we can show His love, His grace and His mercy by simply accepting others into our family.
into a richer experience of worship and a more effect life of service" (Crabb, 1977, p.31). The method to establishing an
Nothing on this earth is greater than God. He is the greatest of everything. "Here I Am to Worship" is another worship song that I believe creates a positive, spirit-filled experience. Whenever we worship, we bow down and let God know that He is our God.
God has preordained a very special Christian service for each person to perform which constitutes good works; Apostle Paul reveals in Ephesians that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works (Chafer, p. 23, Eph. 2:10). The Spirit results in the believer speaking to themselves in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, and singing and making melody in their heart to the Lord; at the same time, giving thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Chafer, p. 26, Eph.
Living the gospel produces real worship. You can't hold it in. It flows from you. Worship is no longer something you DO, but it's just part of who you ARE as a child, and son or daughter of both. Your focus is no longer totally focused on your life problems but instead they are on giving praise to God.
I come from a very Lutheran family where by grandmother is the church organist and my father is on the church counsel. Personally, I have felt disconnected with my church because they don’t cater their services to young adults. In my home church, I sang at a few services with the worship band, which has since been cut from the church. My spiritual goal is to find a new church that is more directed at a younger, more contemporary crowd and to get involved. I loved singing with the band and would like to be a part of one at a new church. My SMART goal is to try go to a new church that is directed to college students every Sunday until I find one that I like and try to be involved in music there. This goal will help me to reconnect with the church and to be more involved with the people that share the same faith and love for music that I
