Realizing My Dream: Studying in the U.S.A

I have always been the girl with a lot of dreams, but many of them I did not believe I could achieve. I always dreamed to marry Bruno Mars and travel around the world with him, my best friend and my dog and be Nicki Minaj’s best friend. I always had crazy dreams, but I had one that I was sure I would achieve: to study at a college in the U.S.A.
Since I was fifteen years old I told my parents that I wanted to study in the U.S.A. They never thought that I was being serious. They always laughed at me and said, “Okay, if you finish your high school with good grades, you will go there to study at college.” Every year I counted the time until I finished high school and could travel to the U.S.A and live my dream.

They told me to calm down and everything would be all right. I sat down and waited for them to call my name. When they called me they just asked me one question, “Who is your father?” and I answer them that my father was the Bishop of United Methodist Church. Then they told me congratulations, and to come back the next day to pick up my passport. I could not believe it. I started to dance while I was walking from the embassy to my house. I could not wait for my mother to pick me up. That was one of the happiest days in my life. Before I left Angola, I threw a big party and I invited all my friends and family. My best friends made a video with all of our great moments. My mother prepared my favorite food, my three years old niece took me to dance with her like we always did. I heard that “Kansas has always tornados, people in Kansas were not friendly and Kansas was the most boring place ever.” I told my father that I would not study in Kansas and I was already looking for Colleges in New York City. I got surprised with my father’s reaction, I thought that he would yell at me but he did not he just said, “if is it that you want, it is okay.” I started to think why my father react that way, so I went to Southwestern College web site and I search more about the college and I decided to try. Then I talked to the administration office and I started the classes on January.
Studying college here in the U.S.A was a big dream of mine because of the education system in Angola. Angola still has poor education and I wanted to have a better education to help my country grow. And the education here in the U.S.A is one of the best in the world and my whole life I loved to hear my father’s English conversation with his co-worker.
