My Concession Stand Experience

I had an unexpected contribution during my junior year when I volunteered at my school's concession stand for a wrestling tournament. This experience turned out to be life-changing. Managing the concession stand has tested my patience and solidified what I want to do in my future career. I loved the hustle and bustle and thought it was fun to stock and sell the merchandise. I have also learned a lot from this exhilarating experience. Negotiating with the customers about alternative merchandise so we did not lose profit was thrilling. He had other tasks and entrusted me to manage the stand and serve customers. At first, the responsibility was intimidating, but my confidence gained throughout the day made the task easier than I expected. It was flattering to be left in charge and regarded as responsible and trustworthy. The way I felt about this experience was unexpected since I went in feeling nervous and uneasy working with new people. In the end, however, the majority of the volunteers and I worked together as a team to sell the items to customers. I also realized while managing the concession stand that I could easily see myself going into the field of business due to my initiative in getting the job done. Through my volunteer experience, I have gained strong communication skills, willpower, and patience, and I want to put the qualities to good use in the future. This was one of the first opportunities I had to apply myself in a real world situation, and it has sparked my interest in running a company someday. This experience was foundational to me and has allowed me to envision my future career. It has also encouraged me to work adamantly towards my future by taking advanced placement classes.
