Music/Record Producer A music producer’s job is to make sure that the end finished product is the best quality and most suitable for gaining the potential to be a hit song. The latest high quality but low costing software and hardware now offer tools for music production that are easily accessible and user friendly. Recording and producing are being done at a professional level inside average homes all over the world! This all seems wonderful and all but it’s not as easy as it sounds. A producer can either be one with a staff on a label or an independent individual producer. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projected that employment of music directors and composers, including music producers, was expected to grow five percent during the 2012-2022 period (www.bls.gov). Los Angeles or New York is the most suitable place to be to become a legendary producer because of the concentration of recording studios all around. Most of the talent also try to make their way into those gateway cities to get things popping for them. There are benefits and cons of being a sole producer. Some benefits include that all proceedings and decision making is one hundred percent you. You can also work during your desired times and desired location ranging anywhere from a professional studio to a basement of your mother’s house. Some cons consist of finding clients and being 1000% on top of your game. Clients are looking to work with the best of the best producers to achieve maximum profit and product. Being on your game is hard is you are completely by yourself. You must be an organized individual to keep count of every detail and person that is working with you. If you have a good name under yourself as a solo producer finding clients won’t be too big of a deal. The pros of working under a label are finding clients. It can offer great advantages for having a certain ear for different notes and chords and being able to pick them out one by one. Along with learning an actually instrument you gain insight to rhythms and beats that will be crucial when maximizing potential. Learning the different software knowledge is a good start too. Though easy and simple to use, knowledge of the programs will make it that much easier to use the tools of production efficiently and effectively. If you take two producers, one with a professional style software and one with an amateur software. The one with the amateur software can actually make a better and more professional song if they simply have more knowledge than the one with the professional software. Producers must have a sense of creativity and passion to really show the ability of a song. Lots of stress accumulates when playing with the fine tuning of a song. Something as small as a simple echo of a few words can really intensify or subtract an audience’s willingness to keep listening. If you search for colleges around that offer sound engineering, producing or recording classes you will find that in fact there are quite a few. This makes if that much easier to become the best you can be as a producer. Many colleges offer a bachelor degree level for music production programs. It is recommended that you take some classes
