Fashion Killer: The Murder of Jasmine Cuevas Hispanic women have made up 37% of missing women in the past two years, and 42% percent of female homicides over the past decade, says LA Civil Rights. Women of color are constantly subjected to violence and discrimination, and Jasmine Cuevas is one great example of this. Cuevas is a successful, young designer from Chicago. Fresh out of college, she was already being hired by high-profile clients to design clothing for fashion shows. Her success caused her rivals to become jealous. One such rival was Michel Deauxburg. Jasmine Cuevas was known as a bubbly, empathetic person to all that knew her. She had no enemies, so when she was reported missing it came as a shock to most. Her boyfriend soon became a suspect, but he had an alibi. The only person her family could think of was Deauxburg. According to her friends, Jasmine had recently been telling them about racist messages she’d been receiving online. At first the messages were just racist remarks, but when Cuevas announced that she would be working with BRE, a well-known company in the fashion world, the messages turned violent. They even went as far as death threats. All these messages are from Michel Deauxburg. She blocked him on all social media and reported him, but this detail remains crucial to the case. Michel was openly admitting to the victim that he desired to hurt and even kill her. He has no problem speaking of violence, so what’s stopping him from acting on his desires? There’s also the fact that Jasmine “coincidentally” went missing just weeks before the fashion show with BRE. He also isn’t known to work in construction, and instead claims to be a mechanic. This money transfer is clearly to pay Anderson for killing the victim. Michel had no reason to contact this violent man other than to take out his biggest rival, and fulfill his greatest fantasy. When interrogated, Anderson’s alibi couldn’t be backed by any witnesses, and seemed to change slightly when asked at different times. Deauxburg’s poor execution makes it easy for anyone to see he is guilty. There are a lot of mixed opinions on what truly happened to Jasmine Cuevas. Many people are skeptical that it was a hired murder, since most of the evidence is circumstantial, not solid. After several years and all of Chicago being searched, Jasmine’s body was never found. It isn’t even truly confirmed that she’s dead. Nobody, no crime is a point that many skeptics argue. Since her body was never found, there’s no way to truly prove she’s dead. For all we know, Jasmine could have run away to escape the toxic relationship that she and her boyfriend have. While this is a valid claim, it just doesn’t make
