Sarah Koenig tries to unwrap the murder case of Hae Min Lee, a Baltimore High School student, in her week by week podcast titled “Serial”. Hae went missing in January 1999, and about a month later her body was discovered, in a park, in dug grave. Ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was convicted for her her murder, although he has always proclaimed his innocence. Koenig is trying to determine if Adnan is really innocent, and if so, who did it. The series has given us a lot to think about and many situations to consider. The podcast takes you through an emotional journey with Adnan. I have felt remorse but also anger towards Adnan. Like many others, I flip-flopped my opinion on his innocence many times. He comes off as such a good guy that you
One bit of evidence that held up and put Adnan away was his call log. His call log put him not only with Jay the day of the murder, but also at the location of Hae’s body. During Adnan’s testimony he claims that he was not with his phone for most of the day that Hae disappeared. He said he left his phone and car with Jay. Adnan’s call log shows an outgoing call to his friend, Nisha, during the time he claims not to have had his phone. Jay does not know Nisha, so it could not have been him that made the call. The call lasted about two minutes and was almost blown off as a butt dial, but Nisha testifies that during the call she talked to both Adnan and Jay. This puts Adnan with not only his phone, but also Jay at a time he claims he was not with his phone or Jay; this backs up Jay’s testimony. Also Adnan’s call log shows an outgoing call that pings a cell phone tower in Leakin Park. The call puts his phone in Leakin park at the time which Jay claims they were burying the body. That evidence alone was enough to put Adnan away. The evidence that did not hold up so well in court also pushes me to believe that Adnan is guilty. Adnan’s status as the ex-boyfriend puts him as the prime suspect. Jay’s testimony against Adnan was the basis of the entire investigation. Jay straight up says that Adnan Syed killed Hae Min Lee. More evidence that did not hold up too well in court
Like what about Hae 's boyfriend of the time, Don? Could he have done it? Don and Hae worked together at LensCrafters. Don 's alibi for January 13 was that he was at work all day; this is later confirmed by the LensCrafters manager. The problem with this story 's reliability of the manager. Don usually worked at the same location every time he went to work but on January 13 he was working at another location. The location that his mother happened to be the manager of. Now there is more drama that went into this situation but here 's the basic low down. So, could Don 's mother be lying to protect her son? I doubt it. I think the fact his mother is the manager should not matter. It just makes it obvious how he got the job. I work for my dad all the time and that does not make my job and less legitimate. Also, he signed in that day, took a short lunch break, and then finished out the day. He was working all day. Another possibility that Koenig bring up is- what if Jay is lying about helping Adnan bury the body? I do think that Jay is lying but not about helping bury the body. I just do not understand why Jay would own up to something so serious if he did not actually help do it. It is obvious that Jay is lying about many things in his interview. But when I sat down to try to understand why he lying, it hit me. Because Jay is a drug dealer!! That is what he has to hide. In my
This reason makes sense because Asia and even a friend of hers claim that they saw and even spoke to Adnan that day and at that time Hae was murdered. This part of the story is when Asia found out Adna was arrested so she wrote him a letter explaining what she remembered about seeing him that day and time. This is from the letter “Im not sure if you remember talking to me in the library january 13’th,but I remember”. This means Adnan is innocent because he was not murdering Hae at the time he was at the library. Therefore Adnan is innocent because Asia’s letters prove that he was at the library at the time Hae was
Episode 8 begins Koenig interviewing Stella Armstrong, a juror in Adnan’s case who voted to convict Adnan of the murder. Stella immediately remembered Jay and said that she believed him, because he admitted to helping in the crime, so she thought that he would have to go to jail too… but he didn’t. Armstrong seemed taken back by that, she really thought he was gonna end up in trouble too. Armstrong then goes on to summarize the case, saying that Gutierrez, Adnan’s defense attorney, was trying to say that Jay murdered Hae, and that he was trying to frame Adnan. She talks about how persistent and aggressive Gutierrez is when questioning Jay, and how Jay stays calm and patient, answering every question politely. Koenig and her assistant Julie realize that if they can talk to Jay face to face, they might be able to get the information that they
They will try to create a narrative that Chris Archer intended to kill Milan Jackson in her task and that pushing her off of the ledge was the final straw. However, none of their witnesses were close enough to hear or see what was really going on. Archer states that they attempted to grab the shoulder of Milan to save her, while the prosecution's witnesses state that Milan was pushed from the shoulder. This part matches up and since they weren't close enough to know what was happening, they have no way of knowing what could have happened. Also, Pat lied in their statement by saying they recieved no money for the interviews with Dr. Mitchell. Tyler Johnson will actually help further the narrative of the kindness and goodheartnedness of Archer by discussing how they would have conversations for hours and be really open with each
“In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. Two weeks later, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it beforehand – four or five days
Adnan's innocence away from him? Jay's story was documented, but his first story kept changing, which seemed off, if he was there shouldn't there be one story and only one story? But his final story, the story that never changes is the one after the mysterious session. Although even that story has flaws. Many to be exact. He says Adan called him after he killed Hae, but we know that they were never friends, only mere acquaintances. Theoretically, would you call an acquaintance after you you killed
Sarah Koenig’s riveting 2014 podcast series Serial investigates the muddled case of Adnan Syed, a teenager who was accused and convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Han Min Lee, fifteen years ago. In order to do so she must speak to those whom were close to Adnan and involved in his day to day life. However, this yields a problem because whoever was close to him wanted to believe he was innocent but their intimacy may have tainted their statements about his character. When Koenig interviews Saad and Rabia, Adnan’s best friend and his older sister, they obviously take the viewpoint that he is innocent; however, through their curious phrasings and tendency to oversell his eminence, their doubt
Fisch, Harmanpreet Kaur drank alcohol and did cocaine. She then went to Mrs. Fisch’s address,
based on the story of one witness, Adnan’s friend Jay, who testified that he helped
This was something that honestly suited Adnan’s defense more than Jay’s. Remember when I said “He didn’t seem like some sort of assasinator?” Well, he really wasn’t. Why would he kill Hae anyway? Hae and Adnan had dated for about two years, but during the end, it’s like most high school relationships. Someone in the group, or both members, eventually lost interest and break up, which in this case, Hae was the one who broke up. She fell in love with another person, named Don. When they had a break up, Adnan was emotional, and upset. Now, that would make sense, but that was two months before Hae’s death. Why would Adnan kill Hae 2 months after they broke up? I mean, he was described as a player, and sometimes he’d cheat on her. Even after they broke up, many friends his said Adnan eventually got over it.
Murder at the Margin is a murder mystery involving various economic concepts. The story takes place in Cinnamon Bay Plantation on the Virgin Island of St. John. It is about Professor Henry Spearman, an economist from Harvard. Spearman organizes an investigation of his own using economic laws to solve the case.
This then led to Adnan’s parents coming to the school and embarrassing him in front of everybody by yelling at him and dragging him out (Koenig, “The Breakup”). I’m not sure if Adnan was embarrassed, but I know I sure would’ve been. One other example, for this reason, is that Adnan was mad because he thought Hae moved on from him too quickly, like she didn’t even give him another chance for anything. Which is true, at least from what I think. Right after Hae had broken up with Adnan, she started to see this other guy from work, Don (Koenig, “The Breakup”).
My homicide case began when the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) received a call from a male caller via 911 reporting he found a body of a black male found in a park near a cul-de-sac in a residential area. I was dispatched and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, I began steps documenting the crime scene. I initiated a rough sketch of the scene and initiated my field notes. A cordon was initiated as I began identifying possible evidence and identifying witnesses and suspects. I canvassed the area and found four 9mm shell casings near the body.
Adana also states he remembered seeing her there too. She then later wrote an affidavit and it stated that they spoke for about 15-20 minutes and then she left around 2:40. The murder ‘happened’ at 2:36 so Adnan couldn’t have been ‘murdering’ Hae at this time if he was at the library. The ones who believe Adnan is guilty will say she undermined her own story but her story has so much details, she couldn’t of had made that up. She also wrote him letters stating what happened that day without anyone knowing so Asia claiming she only did it because the family was ‘forcing’ her to do so is false. The parents didn’t even know she existed until Adnan mentioned the letters. This alibi shows Adnan is not guilty because he was at the library of the time Hae was
In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the main character, Macbeth, murders King Duncan with the assistance of his devious wife, Lady Macbeth. Although they get away with the murder, they are unable to omit the feeling of remorse, although it affects them in different ways, the outcome is similar for both characters. It is obvious to the reader that killing Duncan inflicted the character’s odd behaviors and unstable mental state because of Shakespeare’s use of imagery related to illness.
The legal system in the United States doesn’t have a lot of gray areas when it comes to murder cases, usually someone’s going to jail at the end of the day. However there are certain cases involving children where the law needs to be viewed with exceptions. Sometimes the laws need to bring new ideas and concepts into consideration that weren’t thought of when the laws were originally written. For instance in most cases when an adult kills another adult, the adult who killed the other person will be convicted and sent to prison. But in the cases of when a young child kills another person the law cannot be too quick to convict them due to many discoveries in the field of childhood development. A young child ages 2-6 is still developing biologically,
