Sitting in a courtroom for a crime you didn’t commit, the future of your life depends on the jury and BOOM! You are in prison for the rest of your life and only 17 years old. On January 13, 1999, a senior of Woodland High School, Hae Min Lee was murdered by manual strangulation and later that year her ex boyfriend was convicted for first degree murder. He was convicted for a crime he did not commit. In the podcast “Serial”, explains this murder case with interviews, recordings from the trials, evidence, and even Adnan's perspective of everything based on this murder. In the podcast you never find out if Adnan is guilty or not but with all the evidence against him doesn't prove he killed Hae. Adnan Syed is not guilty.
The day Hae was murdered

is very messy and has many holes. Jay Wilds, the states key witness against Adnan, told the police everything that happened the day of the murder. Jay stated he helped Adnan bury Hae in Leakin Park after Adnan murdered her in broad daylight, at the Best Buy parking lot. Jay shows the cops where Hae's car was hidden too. At first Jay seems believable and seems like he is telling the truth but then his story starts to change. The evidence that ‘proves’ Adnan’s guilt, keeps changing. Jay's stories are very inconsistent. This makes Jay unreliable and and makes seem like a compulsive liar. Jay’s evidence against Adnan isn't much if he keeps twisting it around. Not only does Jay keep switching his story he also lied about a phone booth at the Best Buy parking lot. There is no record of there being a phone booth in the parking lot. The employees, landlord, and property manager don't recall there being a pay phone or phone booth. Another problem with Jay's story is that he knew about the murder even before the murder even happened when Jay and Adnan were smoking in the car. Now, Jay and Adnan were not close at all and would only would hit each other up to smoke. If Jay did know about the murder, why did he wait so long to tell the cops? Why would Adnan even have Jay, of all people, a guy he just smokes with, help him bury the body of Hae? These questions do arise in the podcast, Serial, because these points in this case are very questionable. This shows that Adnan is not guilty because this isn't reliable and very inconsistent evidence to convict someone of murder. The whole entire murder case is a mess too, not only the day of it.
The timing of the murder according to the State had to happen between the time of 2:15-2:36. In Serial, Sarah Koenig, host and executive producer of Serial, actually recreates the steps Adnan did according to Jay’s story. Now the murder could of happen during this time and all the steps do fit from the time the bells ring from Woodlawn High School to the time Adnan ‘killed’ Hae. The big problem with this timeline is that Adnan would of have to have done everything perfectly, with no mistakes or delays, and that is impossible for someone to do that, especially Adnan. The State claiming this means Hae couldn’t of have fought back, there was no traffic, or even that Adnan can strangle her in a small amount of time, which is highly unlikely. Adnan could not have killed Hae in this amount of time. The timeline the State stated makes Adnan look not guilty due to the fact that he would have had to make the murder perfect and this murder case is not perfect at all but …show more content…
messy. After Adnan got convicted of this murder, a girl named Asia McClain that went to Woodlawn High School, started to write Adnan letters and stated that she was with him at the public library and two other people remember seeing him too.
Adana also states he remembered seeing her there too. She then later wrote an affidavit and it stated that they spoke for about 15-20 minutes and then she left around 2:40. The murder ‘happened’ at 2:36 so Adnan couldn’t have been ‘murdering’ Hae at this time if he was at the library. The ones who believe Adnan is guilty will say she undermined her own story but her story has so much details, she couldn’t of had made that up. She also wrote him letters stating what happened that day without anyone knowing so Asia claiming she only did it because the family was ‘forcing’ her to do so is false. The parents didn’t even know she existed until Adnan mentioned the letters. This alibi shows Adnan is not guilty because he was at the library of the time Hae was
murdered. Many people will say Adnan is guilty, the jury did say so, so it’s understandable to believe it, but the first jury believed the opposite, they believed he was not guilty but they had to let them go because they heard Christina Gutierrez, Adnan’s first lawyer, get called a liar by the judge. They shouldn't of have convicted Adnan of first degree murder because there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. There was no DNA, no fibers, no hairs, nothing. The only physical evidence was Adnan’s fingerprints but they did go out so of course there is fingerprints in Hae’s car. The only evidence they really had was Jay’s story and that not enough to convict someone of murder. Adnan Syed did not kill Hae Min Lee and it's shown in all the evidence.
This reason makes sense because Asia and even a friend of hers claim that they saw and even spoke to Adnan that day and at that time Hae was murdered. This part of the story is when Asia found out Adna was arrested so she wrote him a letter explaining what she remembered about seeing him that day and time. This is from the letter “Im not sure if you remember talking to me in the library january 13’th,but I remember”. This means Adnan is innocent because he was not murdering Hae at the time he was at the library. Therefore Adnan is innocent because Asia’s letters prove that he was at the library at the time Hae was
Beverly could have easily came back from her nature walk immediately after 2:00pm and commit the murder of Max Powers along with Dez and Chloe. Beverly also states that,“I came back when I heard Max call for help at about 3:00” (Suspect Case File). In the Preliminary Report it states,“ Max’s body was found at 3:00 in the afternoon”(Preliminary Report). If Max’s dead body was found at 3:00 it wouldn’t make sense that Max would scream for help, in fact he would have been dead. Lastly, Chloe had cotton fiber which was an exact match to the fiber that was scattered around the crime scene. By doing an examination of the cotton fiber found at the crime scene and comparing it to Chloe’s cotton fiber found on her multicolored sweater, it proved to be in fact the exact same cotton fiber that was found at the crime scene. But during Chloe’s testimony she stated, “I went upstairs to take a shower in the bathroom at about 2:30pm”(Suspect Case File). Chloe was not near the crime scene in fact she was in the bathroom taking a shower at 2:30, but the cotton fiber that was on her sweater matched the ones at the crime scene. This clearly, shows that Chloe was at the crime scene at the time of the murder because she used the bathroom alibi to get away with being at the crime scene thus making sense for the cotton fiber to be located at the crime scene. This means that Chloe was at the crime scene during the time of the
Adnan's innocence away from him? Jay's story was documented, but his first story kept changing, which seemed off, if he was there shouldn't there be one story and only one story? But his final story, the story that never changes is the one after the mysterious session. Although even that story has flaws. Many to be exact. He says Adan called him after he killed Hae, but we know that they were never friends, only mere acquaintances. Theoretically, would you call an acquaintance after you you killed
On February 25th, 2000, Adnan Syed was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, via manual strangulation six weeks prior. Brutal right? So are false convictions. Adnan Syed did not murder Hae Min Lee nor did he have anything to do with her death. However, without a doubt, Jay Wilds, his alleged partner in crime, was involved.
Teachers, friends, classmates, relatives and parents could not believe he kills his girlfriend. The reality sometimes is very hard to face especially when feelings are involved. Parents never will accept that their own child who was raised with comfort, love and support could be capable of murder somebody. Disturbing people could be disguised very well under a charming appearance. Many serial killers were known as decent, brilliant and admired persons. When a teenager is carrying a burden as Adnan was, probably feeling guilty for giving back to his parents, his religion and customs could transform him in another person for a few moments when he felt betrayed, humiliated, dishonored and abandoned by the person for whom he did all this. Then he kill Hae Min Lee in a rage 's attack or probably as Jay said Adnan was planning the murder in detail; that is why the police could not found enough evidences to probe him clearly
Based on information provided by Sarah Koenig’s podcast, Serial, Hae Min Lee is killed by Adnan Syed, he yet says he didn’t murder her. Adnan is convicted of committing homicide, which he didn’t do, should not be in jail. This is for 3 main accounts; if something important happens a person remembers that day, Jay knew where Hae’s car was, and by how Sarah and her friend go by the day Jay described.
The evidence presented to myself and the other juror’s proves that Tyrone Washburn is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the murder of his wife, Elena Washburn. On March 12, 1979 Elena Washburn was strangled in the living room of her family’s home. Her body was then dragged to the garage, leaving a trail of blood from the living room to the place it was found. Her husband, Tyrone Washburn, found her in the family’s garage on March 13, 1979 at 1:45 A.M. When officer Dale Chambers arrived at the scene he found her lying face down in a pool of blood. The solid evidence in this case proves only one person, Tyrone Washburn, is guilty of murder.
So, because there has not been any evidence presented that can prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, Adnan is not guilty. The first piece of evidence against Adnan is a testimony given by his acquaintance and partner-in-crime, Jay. The State uses this as one of their main claims. However, there are many reasons why this is the wrong way to go. First of all, the State is using circumstantial evidence, meaning that this ‘proof’ depends on whether or not Jay is telling the truth.
There was several pieces of evidence that helped build the case, but none was enough to actually convict Adnan of murder. For instance, there was no DNA evidence that proved Adnan killed Hae. DNA evidence was found in Hae’s car that belonged to Adnan, but then again Adnan had been in Hae’s car before since they had dated for a while. Sarah even asked her own nephew, Sam, to recall what he did on a specific night six weeks ago and he seemed very torn about his answer. Sam says, “Not a clue”.
He told the court Jay had his phone during that time, but Jay and Nisha did not know each other, so why would they talk to each other for two minutes and 22 seconds (Koenig, “The Case Against Adnan Syed”)? In conclusion, there is enough evidence in the Serial Podcast and other information available to say the Adnan Syed was the killer of Hae Min Lee in 1999. Adnan had more reasoning than anyone else to commit this murder. Adnan's family conflicts built up anger inside him, causing his emotions to erupt and murder Hae. Lastly, the phone log and where each call pinged the towers, giving an idea where Adnan was located.
While reading the case about Mr.Hossack 's murder i saw the wife, Mrs.Hossack, as innocent at first. The children all claimed that the two did not argue for over a year, so why would she kill him now verses a year ago? When the youngest child, Ivan Hossack, came to the stand and "told his story in a straight, unhesitating manner" it made it easier for me to believe in Mrs. Hossack 's innocence. The child even said that he saw his mother aiding his father when he called out for help. If she had been the one to swing the axe, why would she help him and risk getting in trouble? Most importantly, if he was conscious and talking, why wouldn 't he say who to murderer was? He could have easily identified his wife in the dark after being married for over twenty years, and yet he didn 't identify who had tried to kill him. Dr. Dean first stated that the axe did not hit the speech portion of the brain, so he could have been conscious and yelling out for his wife. Dean later stated that the fatal blow from the axe would have left Mr.Hossack unconscious. The murder weapon had blood on in and apparent hairs stuck to one side; "Prof. John L. Tilton of Simpson college... was unable to say definitely that the hair had been
A month after she disappeared on January 13th, 1999, Hae Min Lee was found strangled in a park in Baltimore. Adnan was arrested for Hae’s murder because of the testimony of his friend, Jay. In his interview, Jay told the police that Adnan killed Hae, bragged about it, returned to track practice to make sure he had an
In the United States of America, our justice system is here to serve and protect people of the world. Unfortunately, some are able get away with crimes and others are fairly judged. This often happens because their is nothing proving a clear path of innocence or guilt. In the book Monster and the documentary Murder on a Sunday Morning, this can be demonstrated throughout. Based on the information given, the verdict of Steve Harmon seems to be incorrect while the verdict of Brenton Butler seems to be correct.
You are 17 years old, still in school, your girlfriend just broke up with you, and now you are convicted of first-degree murder for the death of your ex-girlfriend. What would you do? Also, what if there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that you did it, but then not enough to prove that you didn’t do? What would you do then? What would you tell people? Would you lie to them if you actually did it? This is a story of a teenager who was in a similar situation. His name is Adnan Syed. He was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee, his ex-girlfriend, in Maryland in 1999. 15 years later Sarah Koenig started a podcast, Serial. In this podcast Sarah explores and digs deep into the two options, is Adnan guilty? Or is Adnan innocent? Adnan Syed should stay
Throughout and for many years there has been a lot of controversy on how to trial someone who has committed a crime under the age of 18. A lie will be a lie even if it 's serious or innocent and that 's why just like a crime will always be a crime, no matter what the situation is. The age of a person who has committed murder shouldn 't be an issue or a complication. Many advocate that the juvenile is just a child, but despised that I believe that is no justification or defense for anyone who does a crime. America and the nation need to apprehend that juveniles that are being conducted to life in prison is not just for one small incident or crime, but for several severe crimes according to Jennifer Jenkins, Juvenile Justice Information
