In the city of Columbia, South Carolina there is limited multicultural centers that are available to the public. Therefore, in the place of multicultural centers Columbia and surrounding cities have annual festivals in which many visitors and tourists from other cities and states visit to join the festivities. Columbia promotes the Greek Festival annually, North Myrtle Beach has the Irish Italian Festival, Charleston sponsors the Maritime Heritage Festival, Greenville’s Edisto Indian Cultural Festival and Spartanburg has their annual International Festival to name a few. The multicultural festival in which this essay will expound on is Spartanburg’s International Annual Festival with artifacts and an analysis of cultures.
Spartanburg is a very historic city that lies approximately ninety miles northwest of Columbia in South Carolina. This small town was built in the late seventeen hundred’s which formed its name from the Spartan Regiment of South Carolina militia from the American Revolution War (Lewis, 2007). These numbers represents the multicultural diversity that Spartanburg has in a twenty square mile radius, which led the city representatives to propose a diverse festival.
The festival was well thought with the initiative to introduce such cultures that reside in the city of Spartanburg. The festival objectives...

Before the outbreak of the Civil War, Vicksburg, Mississippi had become one of the most prosperous and sophisticated towns on the old southern frontier. The city was a booming center of trade, its wharves crowded with boats carrying all manner of goods and commodities. It boasted a municipal orchestra, a Shakespeare repertory company, and an imposing courthouse in the Greek revival style. To its proud citizens, Vicksburg was the "Queen City of the Bluff" and a center, as one of them wrote, of "culture, education and luxury."
You can see that, why New Orleans is called Festival capital of USA. Though all the festival are for your enjoyment, but some of them are very popular. They are –
New Orleans was, and is still, known for their diverse atmosphere due to African, Caribbean, and European influences. The city’s richness in culture and history is what attracts tourists, from all over the country, to New Orleans. There is not only diversity when comparing New Orleans to other cities but also diversity between the different areas of New Orleans as well. Some of these locations include the French Quarter, City Park, and the Aquarium of Americas. The French Quarter consists of the city’s best restaurants which features cuisines from all over the world, a European style marketplace, many museums and theaters to display art pieces of different cultures, and...
Erik Larson’s book Devil in the White City is full of magic and madness that has shaped the society of the late 19th century that is specific to in Chicago. The issues that have been handled through this time frame that are addressed in this book is that how Chicago was known to be the black city at first, and how the city hoped that hosting the World’s fair would increase their reputation. Secondly, the magic of a man named Daniel Burnham that did put the plans of the world fair in Chicago into life and the obstacles that he had overcame. Next, once the world fair was complete, it has made Chicago “The White city,” by its dazzling designs and attractions that made it memorable. Then, the madness of H.H. Holmes and how his evil deeds has seemed to undermine the world fair and the things that are going on within it with his murders and treachery that does grip Chicago once his evil deeds have been found out. Finally, the events that happened in the world fair that relate to the issues that occur in the late ninetieth century within the United States. The city of Chicago was in a desolate condition before it hosted the World Fair.
Things that you need to know about the city of New Orleans. This is the biggest city in the state of Louisiana. It is also known for jazz music. It has a basketball team called the New Orleans Hornet and a football team called New Orleans Saints. New Orleans has lots of things to see and to do. Like Mardi Gras it is a parade that’s held in New Orleans. I will be talking about New Orleans early settlement, traditions, culture, weather, lifestyle, closing, and works cited.
The city is best known for its large size, population, and diversity of businesses, ideas, and peoples. Various factors, such as the impact of industrialization and the emergence of new technologies, as well as the impact of various social and political movements throughout US history have augmented these three factors, with the scale, population, and diversity of the American city even larger than before. In their respective works The Souls of Black Folk and The Cosmopolitan Canopy, W.E.B. DuBois and Elijah Anderson address the issue of interracial interactions in the city, and their implications on the development of equity and civility. In both The Souls of Black Folk and The Cosmopolitan Canopy, DuBois and Anderson agree that the creation
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended racial segregation in the USA. Since then, America has begun to learn that, no matter the skin tone, we accept all races and become one united nation. Elijah Anderson analyzes certain areas in the big city of Philadelphia and observes how different races and people act and acknowledge one another in the same environment. He describes certain places called “cosmopolitan canopies” where the display of public acceptance by all of all is intense and is a setting where a mix of people can feel comfortable (3). Anderson does a worthy job of backing up his argument with the different evidence he brings to light throughout his article. Although his argument covers how while we might have these cosmopolitan canopies we still have races that are considered “out of place” and how the black people and men in specifically, are seen in the society. For my class observation, I visited Dilworth Park Ice Rink and my reflection at the rink agreed with Anderson’s argument considering that the rink provided a cosmopolitan environment although his argument is now outdated.
For example, Mardi Gras is celebrated heavily in New Orleans. It always has been. Everyone loves the parades and all the food that's available for tourists to try. After the parades are over, a lot of people like to just hang around on Bourbon St. and have fun and get drunk. Another event that's much known is Bayou Classic. Everyone goes to New Orleans for Bayou Classic. They go to watch the football game. They also go for the concerts. They have different singers that would go down there during the classics and perform. Even some of the celebrities will be there. These events really mean a lot to people all
Being a small metropolis and surrounded by industrialization, festivals are low in count in San Jose but there are still plenty of festivals and annual events of public interest that one must experience. Clemson is known for its very interesting history. A downtown business got its name when some cadets from Clemson took their clothes and he told them let me judge it to see if it could fit and the owner of the business was Judge Keller. In 1917 the whole entire senior class was...
Well, my essay is about Mississippi. It’s a great place to be. There all kinds of events you can participate in. Blues music its part of Mississippi’s culture. This music comes from slaves in the fields, singing about their struggles, their conditions and their sorry. Many of the songs carried secret messages of escaping the plantation life. The music told of life experiences as slaves knew them. The stories sung about in their music went back before the Civil War and even to the western coast of Africa where men, women and children were captured and sold into slavery and brought to America as slave laborers to work in Southern plantations. The Mississippi Delta is considered to be the birthplace of the Blues, with the new music coming out of the Blues-Rock and Roll. The earliest blues musicians came from the Mississippi Delta region, where the uniquely form of music was born. These early musicians in turn inspired blues greats like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Bobby “Blue” Bland, who eventually took the blues northward to Chicago and contributed further to t...
As we go about our daily lives in the beautiful country of Canada which we have been blessed to live in, it has become normal to see a woman who wears the hijab walking down the street, or a Black family driving on the highway, or an Indian man wearing a suit and tie heading into the office. Canada’s cultural diversity is something which makes the country so special to live in, and instances where we see people of different cultures is increasing everyday. Many of the newcomers who arrive from overseas into Canada are families, with children and youth ready to begin their new life filled with opportunity here in Canada. However, youth who settle in Canada with their families aren’t exempted from the trials and tribulations youth face. In fact,
The issue with the multicultural fair is that Ms. Morrison does not have a complete understanding of what the word culture actually means. Her way of describing ones culture is by their clothing, she then gets the concept of ethnicity and culture mixed up. Ms. Morrison does not take in to consideration that there is more to just wearing certain clothes to represent culture but by the girls wearing their soccer jersey and sweatshirt they are actually representing what their culture values. She never gave the girls a chance to explain their reason for choosing those particular outfits. She was to single minded and didn’t have a full understanding of the word culture to explain how the girls outfits express their culture.
A Cultural Event is an event relating to a particular culture. These events are held within cultures such as clans or tribes.
