Mulan As A Hero

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” (Christopher Reeves). In other words a hero can be anyone that is determined and helps other people. A hero is someone who can face challenges with determination, who can persevere or exceed beyond expectation, but is not always buff, or strong. Heroes are people that can undergo any challenge with determination. One hero that has faced challenges with determination is, Frederick Douglass. “I felt like one who had escaped a den of hungry lions...I was yet liable to be taken and subjected to all the tortures of slavery” (SB,71). Someone else who portrayed the role of a hero but was not handsome or good looking were the boat men who were just average men, that responded to the call on 9/11 to help evacuate Manhattan island before anymore terrorist attacks happen. They put their lives in danger and helped a lot of people, but they were not strong, good looking, or handsome. “I says I have to do what I have to do”(Vincent Ardolino). A hero is not described by the way they look but by what they have done to earn themselves the title of hero. Heros are important because of all the good that they do. “Heros represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity” (Ricky Martin). In other words heros see a challenge and head towards them with determination. They also exceed way beyond expectation and they do not always have to be big strong, good looking
