I come from a very small town named Centreville in the lower part of Mississippi. As a community there is nothing at all in Centreville for the children or the adults. So as a family we usually have to go to another town or even a city to find the things we need or to even enjoy a day. When I was growing up we didn't have a park where all the children could go to or even much, a gym where we could play ball. I want to be the one to change that because I don't see too many from my community going to college or better yet coming back after college to help the community. I know that I'm not no big time professional athlete and we don't see any of those come out where we from but I know for a fact I can do the same thing they do with changing their community for the better. …show more content…
I want to prove that it’s possible that and education can make your dreams come true. I know as being in such a small and rude area that our children aren't challenged nor experienced enough at school but they all have the heart to strive for excellent. I know my school can't even find teachers to teach us as we continue to have an abundance of absent teachers for certain subjects, some including main subjects such as algebra and English teachers. I just want to say going to Mississippi State is a dream to yet come true for me but I know coming from the area and family I need financial support. I want to just be that role model for my community and I want to use my college degree from Mississippi State to support that dream. I want a chance to do the impossible in life with a degree from Mississippi State. I feel that it’s the community that has the biggest effect on the children and how they see their self’s coming up. I know that I didn’t know too many heroes in my community and my father was never there in my life to be

Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. That is, until the fact set in that I was going to have to pay for this education that I desired. I knew that with my busy schedule, I would be unable to make enough money while only working a few hours here and there. I was beginning to lose sight of hope. Then one day I talked to my counsellor about what I could do and he pointed me towards dozens of scholarships that I could apply for. The exigence or purpose

Before you begin reading the main narrative of my essay, I want to let you in on some details about my life and myself. I was born in Manhattan, New York and when I was about twenty two days old, I boarded a plane with my parents on a journey across the United States to the city of San Francisco, then to the town of Grass Valley. This is where my grandmother and grandfather resided. They had been telling my parents that the city of Manhattan was no place to raise a child and that we should move to California and live with them. Before making this life changing decision of leaving most of their friends and loved ones in New York to come to California, my parents sent me off to live in India with my uncle. Keep in mind, I was about the age of two when this all happened. The opportunity of leaving me with my uncle gave my parents about a year to think things over and pull themselves together, in efforts to properly raise a child in a country that was so
Growing up in my neighborhood was not hard or challenging at all, just because I live in an outer city area in NC which is more of a country setting where it was nothing but small businesses and fields. I am thankful to say I was blessed with great parents who raised me up in the church and both has great jobs and would have no problem getting whatever my siblings and I needed or wanted to have. My mom graduated college twice with both degrees from Southeastern Community College she was an LPN until I was around the age of twelve and then she went back for another degree and became an RN to get a better job and she currently is Unit Manager at Poplar Heights Nursing Center. For dad he did not attend college he did truck driving until I was around the age of five and then he owned his own construction job called, “Simple Fix”. He continued doing that for about four years and it was successful until workers started relocated so he stopped that job and now he currently is the supervisor over nuclear construction at Duke Power
James Henslin (2015) defines social location as “the corners in life that people occupy because of their place in a society” (p.2). Also it states that “sociologist look at how jobs, income, education, gender, race-ethnicity, and age affects people ideas and behavior.”(p.2).
“All of us experience change in our lives. Change is the one constant in our lives. There are changes that we look forward to and change that we fear. However, one thing is for sure. Things will not stay the same no matter how much we would like them too”(Familyfriendpoems). The movie that this paper about is Smoke Signals by Sherman Alexie and directed by Chris Eyre. Smoke Signals is a movie about 2 Indians named Victor and Thomas and of their journey to Phoenix, Arizona to get Victor’s dad’s ashes. Thomas is the one who always tells stories and Victor is the one that had his dad leave him. Victor is the most changed character by the place that he visits. Before he goes to Arizona he is mad at his dad and doesn’t respect Thomas for who he is. But, when he goes to Arizona for his dad’s ashes he changes his thinking and realizes that he can’t be mad at his dad forever and he has to accept Thomas for the person that he is.
It’s time to move outside the box, it’s time to find a place for me New York City here I come. I’ve been trapped in Houston for years in the same little district Spring Branch for 8 years, this is the place where I got to learn spanish, and how to have a good garage sell on a rainy saturday, going to choir surrounded by talented singers from all across the world this is the place I was able to break out of my shell and people accepted and, respected my creativity. Now that I’ve experienced the life of being in a small town, I feel it's time to build my confidence level and move to the “Big Apple”.
Both the bright city lights and vast, sweeping spaces of undeveloped country have their diehard fans. While some simply cannot stomach the thought of moving away from the fast pace of city life, others could never imagine living outside of their small town. While both community sizes meet the basic needs of human life, the day-to-day routine of a small-town professional is much different from that of a big-city businessperson. Both lifestyles have something to offer, and each certainly has its merits. Because of this, the right choice of where to live truly depends on an individual’s personality and preferences.
Small towns are looked down upon and criticized because they are small; however, they might be the best town of all. All of the people who reside there are thoughtful of one another, care for their neighbor, and their family. Small towns have good cultural values of what is considered good, desirable, and proper (Schaefer 2016:63). Residents feel like they are a part of something bigger than the town. People who grow up in small towns have better morals, give more athletic opportunities to children, and have a sense of community.

Every new graduated high school student wants to get out of their parents’ house. They want independence, and to feel like they are going somewhere in life. Well, that’s what I thought. Moving out was the hardest thing I had done so far. I had just graduated and was barely making any money but I thought oh well so many people move out this young I’m just going to have to work harder, maybe skip school this semester until I can get on my feet to take classes. I knew all too well that I wouldn’t be able to afford it on my own, so I asked my best friend if she wanted to live with me. Little did we both know that living with another person would be a very different experience then living with our parents. We had plenty of fights over messy rooms, the empty fridge, empty bank accounts, and annoying neighbors.
Whoosh! That is the precise sound I heard as the crazed flock of travelers headed for the train terminal. My best friend, Stacy, and I were left disoriented and understandably confused once the crowd thinned. We were at Madison Square Garden at the train terminal awaiting our train back to the hotel; it was our first trip to New York City. As one may imagine, it was a fascinating and surreal voyage into extreme urban life. It was so enthralling and exciting that afterward I felt compelled to make a permanent trek to a large city. Due to my experiences in cities like Atlanta and New York, I have an increasing desire to live in a large city because of the various forms of entertainment, myriad of transportation, and the never-ending excitement typical of such a fast-paced lifestyle.
I’ve finally made it. When you first land here the immediate difference is all around you whizzing around you creating a sense of life. It 's a sense that you rarely have in a small town it 's bigger I can’t quite obtain a hold of it. It moves fast all through the night and during the day. It peaks in all of my senses to create a brand new sense of the life of the city.
When faced with new environmental changes and a lifestyle to adapt to, many college students feel overwhelmed by homesickness. Homesickness is most commonly due to anxiety, depression, and loneliness. A research studied concluded that homesick college students are three times more likely to drop out than non-homesick students. For many first-year college students, being away from home can be like an adventure. It’s exhilarating to be off on your own and completely in charge of your life and social well-being. I know that during my first week in college, I didn’t feel homesick at all because I was so anxious to meet new people, explore campus, and check out my classes. However, as I got more used to
