The movie I chose to write about was the “Secret Window”. The main characters were Mort, Shooter (a hallucination of a person made up by Mort), Amy (Mort’s ex-wife), Ted (Amy’s boyfriend). The movie starts out with Mort, a published author, finding out that his wife was having an affair and wanted to leave him. In the same time he was having strife with another “author” Shooter, who was accusing him of plagiarizing his story. Events occurred in the middle where Mort was trying to find proof that Shooter was incorrect and that the story was his first, and he was also having issues with his wife who was pleading with him to sign divorce papers. Leading to the end, I’m not sure if Mort realized that he was Shooter and it was someone he had made up, but the director of the movie made it clear to the viewers this was happening and Mort ended up murdering Amy and Ted and completely losing sight of reality. The movie ends with him eating corn and implying that he buried their bodies in a corn field outside the secret window of his cabin home. I have associated the disorders of Dissociative Identity Disorder and Depression Disorder with Mort. I see these two as the main disorders he living with in this film. He is not aware of his multiple personality of Shooter and doesn’t realize that he is not a real person, but is apart of him. He also goes on to kill people and being delusional and paranoid that Shooter is out to get him for his story he published. Mort is also going through a traumatic event in his life, with the divorce, which I believe could have lead him into depression. He sleeps throughout the movie and is really anti sociable. He also seems disheveled at times and doesn’t leave his house
On October 14th, 2016 in class we watched “Two Spirits” by Lydia Nibley. Basically the film explored the cultural context behind a tragic and senseless murder of the main character. Fred was part of an honored “Navajo” youth who was killed at the age of sixteen by a man who bragged to his friends that he was nothing but a “fag”. While walking home from a carnival he was chased by one of his friends. Once his friend caught up to Fred, he pulled him down from a mountain and smashed his head with a heavy rock. Fred laid there for five days straight where two young boys found his body lying there. He was labeled as a “two-spirit” who was possessed of balancing masculine and feminine traits. In the film, there are two parts that are put together effortlessly like the people it discusses. In "Killings"by Andre Dubus and In the Bedroom, directed by Todd Field, the author and director decided to go different directions with the beginning of the story, keeping the plot of the story almost identical. However, beginning the story differently impacted both works in completely different aspects. Dubus begins the story at the funeral of Frank which leads the reader to draw conclusions about what happened before Frank's funeral, while Field’s gives more background to viewer which allows the reader to make more connections. Dubus begins the story at Frank’s funeral which leads the reader to become confused throughout the story. As the reader reads through the story, they have to be able to connect the dots to understand what is happening. While in the movie, Field’s begins with the backstory leading up to Frank’s death which makes it easier for the viewer to understand what is happening. The difference between the two stories impacts how the reader and viewer are able to interpret the story.
To be a True Blue Aussie you have to have a mate because “You've to have a mate,” as verbalized by poet Dave Butler in 2013. For in Aussie culture, a mate is a person whose actions speak louder than their words. In Australia, being a mate is a value that is held in the highest respect.
Rear Window effectively demonstrates Hitchcock’s strong qualities as an auteur. The writer for Rear Window is not Hitchcock, and yet there are clearly many motifs and themes present which are well known for being used by Hitchcock. He is not merely following instructions of how to make the movie he is providing his own creative adjustments.
Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 film Rear Window is truly a masterpiece, as it uses fascinating cinematic elements to carry the story and also convey the meaning of voyeurism. Throughout the film we are in one room, yet that does not limit the story. This causes the viewer to feel trapped, similar to the main character, while also adding suspense to the detective story. The opening scene itself, draws the viewer in. In just five minutes and 27 shots, the viewer is given an introduction to the main character, his lifestyle, his condition, and his neighborhood. The lighting, the costumes, and the set are all presented in a way to catch the viewers eye, compelling them to crave more. Combining vivid lighting, edgy cinematography, and unique set design, Rear Window, proves why Hitchcock is still remembered as one of the greatest and most influential directors of all time.

Sunset Boulevard is heavily influenced by the history of cinema starting from the 1930s to 1950 when the film was released.

Ultimately an uncomfortable relationship evolves between Norma and Joe that Joe does not want a part of. Sunset Boulevard starts off with an establishing shot from a high angle shot with a narrative leading to a crime scene from a long shot (a dead body is found floating in a pool), this narrative throughout the film establishes a formalist film.

Secret Window, released in 2004, is a film based on Stephen King's novel Secret Window, Secret Garden. The film follows increasingly disturbing events around a character called Mort Rainey, who is portrayed by Johnny Depp & John Turturro. This character appears to suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Rainey is a middle-aged novelist recently estranged from his wife; as a result, he has isolated himself at his cottage. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Rainey has another personality called Shooter, and Rainey himself comes to the realisation that Shooter is an identity that he has created to protect himself from the pain of his marital breakdown. Shooter takes over Rainey’s mind one last time to murder his wife and the man she cheated with. After his vengeance is carried out, Rainey seems at ease and jovial, and as the film ends, Rainey seems to be in a positive emotional state. This is an ambiguous ending that leaves the viewer unsure of Rainey’s mental health status.
Many live attempting to decipher the riddle of life. What is life? What is the purpose? What makes? Even though we only seek happiness why can’t we ever seem to achieve it? When we do reach happiness why can’t we seem to grasp it and hold it for more than the few short hours that pass like seconds? The question we must answer first is “What makes happiness, true?”
People who have this disorder are usually self-centered and have a hard time maintaining relationships. This is clear as in the entire movie he doesn’t seem to care about his fiance. He had sex with many other women, and when he was asked if he was dating anybody he responded by saying, “not really.” This also shows how he was a liar. He constantly lied to get out of situations and to make himself feel better. For example, he believed that he made a reservation at a restaurant when they were clearly all booked. As well as being a pathological liar, he was also decietful. He tricked a prostitute into thinking she was safe by going to his apartment. He ended up murdering her with a chainsaw. He was always rude and straightforward to others as he was inconsiderate of anyone’s feelings. He told a woman he worked with exactly what to wear; and if she did not look good he would tell her she was ugly. He was very shallow and arrogant as he cared very much about his facial features. Patrick did not display many emotions except for greed and digust. He showed zero remorse for the people he murdered; it was as if nothing happened. People with antisocial personality disorder also show recklessness. Towards the end of the movie he believed he was going to get caught for all of the murders he completed, and therefore decided to shoot everyone he came in contact with.
